Myth-Busters: Poisonous Protectionism
The ideas of protectionism and mercantilism are as old as the hills. When implemented, they distort the market and create tremendous economic problems. Nevertheless, there's always a litany of excuses for government to tilt the tables in one direction or other. Ron Paul goes through the most popular excuses today on Myth-Busters.

Killing and Dying for Minerals

Americans might soon have a new reason to thank the troops for their service, at least in Afghanistan, where the troops have been killing and dying for almost 16 years. According to an article in yesterday’s New York Times, “President Trump, searching for a reason to keep the United States in Afghanistan after 16 years of war, has latched on to a prospect that tantalized previous administrations: Afghanistan’s vast mineral wealth, which his advisers and Afghan officials...

Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) asked Fed Chairman Janet Yellen a simple question at a recent House Financial Services Committee Hearing: Why does the Fed fear transparency? What exactly, specifically could an audit of the Fed result in that would harm the country?

Judge Andrew Napolitano said The Patriot Act:
"was posted on the House Intranet for 15 min [before the vote] and it’s 315 pages long. I read it twice, and it took me 20 hours each time."Oba...

Jeff Sessions Has Damaged American Liberty

President Trump may have very little to show for the first 6 months of his administration, but unfortunately the same can't be said for his Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
In such a short period of time, Sessions has really beat-up on American liberty.
So much so, that even statist publications like Vox call him "the most effective member of the administration by far."
Vox sums it up:
On criminal justice, Sessions has instructed US attorneys to take a much more aggressive line...

Israel Anti-Boycott Act - An Attack On Free Speech?
House Members and Senators have rushed to co-sponsor a bill that would make boycotting Israel a felony, punishable by up to a million dollar fine and 20 years in prison. Faced with the fact that such a bill is clearly an attack on the First Amendment, some are now claiming that they didn't know what the bill was about when they sponsored it. What's going on here?

Teacher’s union president compares school choice to segregation
By Liberty Report Staff
So-called "school choice" is just another big government welfare program that puts private schools under federal control. It's surely not the solution to the problem of the federal government being (unconstitutionally) involved in education in the first place.
American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten takes an unusual angle against "school choice" by comparing it to segregation.

Mr. Trump: Veto This Bill! - Sanctions Lead To War
President Trump has suggested he will sign the new Russia, North Korea, Iran sanctions bill that the House will vote on tomorrow. Accepting the bill will be a huge surrender for a president elected to improve relations with Russia. Can he ever recover?

Trump Should Veto Congress’ Foolish New Sanctions Bill

This week’s expected House vote to add more sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea is a prime example of how little thought goes into US foreign policy. Sanctions have become kind of an automatic action the US government takes when it simply doesn’t know what else to do.
No matter what the problem, no matter where on earth it occurs, the answer from Washington is always sanctions. Sanctions are supposed to force governments t...
