Addicted to Shopping? The Ten-Item Wardrobe Can Help

In today's video, I discuss shopping addiction in relation to the ten-item wardrobe.

Here's my confession: I used to shop way too much. I loved shopping. I would always be browsing the stores, buying clothes and accessories and placing them in my closet. I loved the rush of buying something new. My wardrobe was very full. After I studied abroad in Paris and observed the ten-item wardrobe in action, I knew that there was a different way to live, but I didn't take any action upon my arrival back in the States. Why? Because old habits die hard!

But a few years later something changed. I realized I was wasting a lot of money. I also realized I never wore a large percentage of my wardrobe and still felt like I had nothing to wear when I opened it up each morning (even though I had so many clothes). I reminisced about the chic ten-item wardrobes I admired in Paris and knew that that was the path I had to take to break free from the thrill-seeking I got from clothes shopping.

I hope you enjoy today's video, which shares how the ten-item wardrobe can help you break free from poor shopping habits.

On today's Natural Home with Jennifer I have a lovely natural cosmetics line to introduce to you: A'DEL Natural Cosmetics. I found them on Instagram and reached out to Arlene, the owner, to see if they would like to be featured on Natural Home with Jennifer.

I love discovering these beautifully crafted artisanal products. A'del Natural Cosmetics is a lovely small business that deserves attention. Arlene has been so generous to give us 20% off with the code TDC20 (this excludes the sale of sample sizes).

Rebound with Me | 5-minute Routine | June 2019

Welcome to my monthly rebounding video. The weather is heating up and it's fun to jump outside and get some fresh air. As usual, I'm jumping on my Needak soft bounce rebounder.

Many people have been asking me how I'm losing the baby weight and rebounding is a big part of that. The best part is that I look forward to jumping everyday. It's the funnest form of exercise second only to swimming! I hope you enjoy today's video.

This video is for entertainment purposes only. Please consult your physician before embarking on a rebounding routine.

Have a wonderful day and I'll see you tomorrow for a fun makeup Natural Home with Jennifer!

New Kitchen Reveal | Before & After | French Country Kitchen | Jennifer L. Scott

When we bought our house nearly two years ago we knew we would have to ultimately redo the kitchen. Several appliances were malfunctioning, a few drawers were broken, and we were not happy with the decor... at all. When the most recent appliance broke (the stove), we decided it was time to redo the kitchen.

It took three weeks and what resulted is the most dramatic renovation Ben and I have ever done!

Here are a few shots of the kitchen before the remodel.

We are very grateful to have such a large kitchen. We did not like the darkness of the granite and the darker cabinets, however. We also had another conundrum... the seating in the kitchen was a major problem for us.

Ben, the girls, and I found ourselves sitting at the barstools to have our meals... we would usually be facing a sink of dishes. Meanwhile, the boys, would be in the high chair and another chair closer to the ground. We were all scattered, yet we didn't want to put a table next to the barstools because it would be too cluttered. With the really little kids we do not dine in our formal dining room everyday. With the upholstered chairs and carpet, it's just not practical. You will see our solution a few pictures down from here...

And here is the "after"

Ben and I were interested in grey cabinets. My mother-in-law recently renovated a flat in England (more on that later) with grey cabinets and she did such a beautiful job, it inspired us to do the same with our kitchen here. Funny enough, though we intended to have grey, the color really turned out to be blue. We love the shade and feel that is very unique. It is a custom mix so I do not have a name for this paint. Ben calls it "duck egg blue".

Here you can see the solution to our dining conundrum. We had our contractor create a built-in bench in the island where the barstools sat previously. Then we added a farmhouse table and bench on the other side (these are from Living Spaces). My friend, Lisa, gave me this idea after hearing about our seating problem. Thank you, Lisa, for this wonderful idea!

The countertops are white quartz and the backsplash is white subway tile. The grout we chose is rolling fog. I picked brass knobs and pulls after having a discussion with my lovely friend, Hilary from Old World Home. Hilary has excellent interior design sense and she thought brass would look smashing with the grey/blue cabinets. She was right!

The appliances are Kitchen Aid and the sink is cast iron Kohler. We were able to say on budget by keeping our cabinets and just replacing the doors. We are thrilled with our new kitchen and have been enjoying it immensely. I hope you enjoy today's video. I would love to hear your thoughts on our dramatic kitchen transformation!

Gardening with Children | Therapeutic Gardening | The Clueless Gardeners

The children and I are preparing our Spring garden. Today we bought some herbs, vegetables, and flowers and enjoy spending the afternoon tending to our little patch of land.

I share an excerpt of Emily Dickinson's poem in the video... here is the remainder of the poem.

A light exists in Spring
by Emily Dickinson

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —

A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

I hope you enjoy today's video and that it brings you joy :)

1 Floral Maxi Dress 4 Ways | Casual to Dressy

My floral maxi dress: it's one of the most versatile core pieces in my ten-item wardrobe. How can it be that I love to wear this dress around the house, and I also wear it to special events like a wedding? In today's video I'm going to share four different ways to style a floral maxi dress to take it from casual to dressy.

Before we begin, this is the (budget) floral maxi dress I am wearing in today's video. I am also listing several other options here:

Lulu's has a beautiful floral maxi dress in many different colors.

Lulu's Darling Daydream Floral Maxi is another beautiful option.

As a budget option, I am linking this well-reviewed Vintage Floral maxi dress from Amazon.

For very low cut dresses, you will need a demi-camisole.

Look no. 1: Casual Everyday
This is how I most often wear this dress: with flat nude patent sandals, white leggings underneath, my hair tied up and casual jewelry. It's just a beautiful way to dress for no particular reason.

If it's sunny outside, I like to wear a large sunhat (linking similar).

Look no. 2: Casual Wedge
This look is casual yet slightly dressy with the added height from the wedge. I'm tying my hair back in a ponytail and wearing drop earrings. This would be great for a lunch meeting or even a casual dinner.

Look no. 3: Elegant and dressy
I'm pairing the floral maxi dress with closed-toe Ferragamo heels (linking comparable budget heels here) and pearl earrings. You could also wear a shawl with this on colder days. This is a great look for a wedding or a special performance. A nude clutch will finish off the look.

Look no. 4: Dressy and Glamorous
These ultra high Jimmy Choo strappy sandals paired with the high-end gemstone jewelry make this look beautiful for a fancy wedding or even a red carpet event. Jimmy Choo is a very pricey brand so I am also linking a budget strappy sandal here.

The pearl earrings, hoop earrings, and gold bracelet featured are from Ana Luisa Jewelry NY

Periwinkle Creme At-Home Manicure | Nails of the Week | Self-Care

As part of The Chic Assignment this month, we are getting manicure and pedicure ready. I have been enjoying doing these manicure videos for you. Today, I'm painting my nails with Londontown's Dainty Daze, which is a lovely periwinkle blue creme.

I normally do not like to wear blue polish, but there is something about this color.

For this nail soak, I use lavender Castile soap (mine is the Grove Collaborative brand), essential oil (I'm using Breathe Easy by Cellar Door Candles), and fresh lavender buds. I massage my hands with 2 in 1 hand and nail treatment

The 9-free polishes I use are Dainty Daze and the Gel Genius Base and Top Coat.
Londontown generously give The Daily Connoisseur audience a discount. Use code JenniferS for 25% off your order.

I hope today's manicure video inspires your self care routine. Tag me with pictures of your own at-home manicures with the hashtag #dailyconnoisseur or #jenniferlscott See you soon!

10 Actionable Ways to Reduce Stress | Jennifer L. Scott

My last video on combating stress sparked a lot of conversation. Turns out, almost all of us deal with stress! I am not surprised by this. Whether financial stress, workload stress, parenting stress, or all of the above, people are interested in reducing it. How can we move through life beautifully and go through challenging times with grace?

I sat down with Ben and we did an experiment. I wrote down ten ways to combat stress and he wrote down his. When we revealed our ways to each other they were so different! My ways were actions and his ways were mental shifts. Perhaps I can get Ben to come back and share his tips with you, but in today's video, I'm sharing ten ways that I personally combat stress.
