The Grand Canyon Star Party and some photos of the Milky Way
The Grand Canyon is a special place. We all know this! I firmly believe that it is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. But…. I am an amateur astronomer and that means that the Grand Canyon also has a very big bonus for me. It has absolutely astonishing night skies. It is very very dark there.
And every year the National park service hosts a week long event for star gazing at the Grand Canyon. This year it was last week (June 22-29).
And I rented a motel room and stayed there at the Canyon for five nights. It was absolutely remarkable! I was astonished by how deep and rich the night sky was and by how much the milky way popped! ( I got pictures)
I also attended two different workshops on how to take astrophotography and I learned a lot. Then I took a whole lot of amazing pictures of the Milky Way and the night sky. Here’s one picture:
The Milky Way at the Grand CanyonIs that not amazing? I have never been a photographer. And I am so happy with how the pictures turned out .

Note: I took this photo with a digital Canon Rebel camera, a common lens that comes with it and a 15 second exposure – on a solid tripod. That’s it. Once you know what to do the process is very easy.
And I am going to be creating some tutorials on how you can do this too so watch my stuff – it’ s all upcoming.

In this episode I
talk about bread and about quality. We live in a world with a whole
lot of sizzle. But sizzle is empty calories. Seek out more steak and
resist the allure of sizzle. This talk stems from a couple of
incidents in my life that revolve around bread.

I don’t mean magic
in terms of sleight-of-hand or stage shows. And I don’t mean magic
in terms of spells and secret books. I mean that everything around us
is so peculiarly and profoundly magical. We often take this all for
granted as we live our everyday lives.
It is exhibited in
the flight of a bird, in the swim of a fish and in the glow of a
star. You can find that feeling in something as simple as a sheet of
paper.
Take the time today
to notice a little thing that is magic.

ep6. From Aardvark to Zygote – The encyclopedia and creativity
A couple of weeks
ago somebody asked me a question that I couldn’t really answer. I
had never given it any thought. So it got me to thinking.
In this episode I
tell you a story in my life where it pretty much all started for me.
What do I mean by that? Well it all started with a set of
encyclopedia.
But not in terms of
being smart and knowing things. It was more of an appreciation for
how remarkably diverse and beautiful this existence is – and how
everything truly is tied into everything else.
I also talk about
how there is very little value in easy. But there is tremendous value
in the things that are difficult.
