A Question…

Since I’m off to watch three little ones for the morning, this will be quick! Just a question, because you know how curious (er, nosy) I am… :)

I’m still thinking about the Olympics—the original contests, that is. And from what I remember in ancient history class, the athletes competed naked. How sad is it that we’ve lost touch with tradition?

On that note (and feel free to share naughty thoughts), if you could change

something about the Olympics, or add an event or two, what would it be?

Yes, I did leave the door wide open, didn’t I?

Beverly Ovalle: A Saint’s Salvation

I recently released A Saint’s Salvation on February 10, 2014.  It is a military romance near and dear to my heart as I’m a Navy Veteran, my husband is a Navy Veteran and my son is a Marine. He is currently active duty in the Middle East.

My son had gotten a tattoo, St. Nicholas, before he went to Afghanistan.. Well, that tattoo just seemed to resonate with me, NOT that I wanted him to get one. But the stark black of the ink against his skin started my brain churning.

This book all started as a catharsis. I just started playing around and before I knew it, I had started A Saint’s Salvation. I missed him; we were buddies gaming together and generally being a pain in the butt to each other because we could. My hero ‘Saint’ took on characteristics of my son. ACK! I ended up putting it on the back burner because face it, it’s a romance and just ACK! No way could I write this kind of romance starring my son! LOL. So, when he came home safe and sound, I was able to separate my son from my character.

The beginning was pure emotion of his time there and the hurt he felt when his long time girl sent him a ‘Dear John’, over Skype. I could hardly contain my rage over his hurt. I’m pretty easy going but this was the first time he had been dumped. To make it worse, he was deployed with no contact and no recourse. Poor baby. I think I spent some time of everyday talking him through it. Combining it with things he saw he still refuses to talk about and a young man can get pretty messed up. But he came through it like the champ he is.

My son is a charming rogue, much like my character. At one point I know he was dating three girls. Periodically a young lady has come up to me and said ‘Your son’s an Asshole.’ Sadly I know this, and he makes no bones about it. Yet, they keep coming back like bees to honey. My son is a born Marine.  I don’t think he was meant to be anything else.

I tried to portray this in A Saint’s Salvation. I mixed up his emotions, what I observed of his behavior and came up with the charming rogue ‘Saint’ Nicholas Santiago.  According to one Marine that has read it, ‘Saint’ sounds like every Marine she has ever known.

The time with his family healing had me pulling characteristics from my family.  My mother in law really does bless us every time we leave to come home. She is a wonderful woman who is the matriarch of a wonderful family.

But the rest of the story is pure fiction. I have a vivid imagination, a pen that tends to write with steam and once I’ve figured out where I want it to go, I keep chugging along until I’m done. 5 beta reads, 3 editor back and forth sessions and a proof reading session and A Saint’s Salvation was ready for the spotlight.

So, here it is. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

A SAINT’S SALVATION

by Beverly Ovalle

boASaintsSalvation_MEDPublished by Secret Cravings Publishing

Released February 10, 2014

Angel’s life changed the minute Saint saved her from a grenade. Now Saint has a second chance to prove he’s the man for her.

Corporal Nicholas ‘Saint’ Santiago needs to go home to reclaim the man he used to be. To be the man he was before Operation Enduring Freedom slowly hardened his heart. He needs to reconnect to the values and the reasons he is doing what he does. Saint also needs to try to forget the courageous woman he knows was meant to be his.

Petty Officer Angelina Jones’ life changed the moment Saint saved her life. She survived the blast but now has to deal with the fact that she will never be whole. Knowing Saint received a ‘Dear John’ letter, Angelina has no intention of being his rebound romance. She needs to be loved for herself. She needs to forget about the one man she knows was meant to be hers.

They each try to find someone to help them forget.

But what does fate have planned for them?

Excerpt:

A shout from Hamilton brought him back to the here and now. “Hey, Saint, do you see any trouble coming?” On guard at the west wall, Nick shook his head. Not that it was much of a wall, a couple of sandbags holding up a makeshift bullet riddled wooden fence, an illusion of safety and security.

“No, it all looks clear.” Well, as clear as normal, Nick thought. The Seabees and the Army Corp of Engineers had done their best to give them a clear line of site, but the rubble of buildings and piles of rock where there used to be a town never seemed to go away. Rebels constantly hid there, randomly firing at their FOB, a forward operating base in Helmand Provence, making it almost impossible to build a more secure perimeter.

Nick could see kids playing in the dirt. In the distance the locals were harvesting the poppy fields. Some of the largest poppy fields in the world were right outside the walls of the FOB. Beautiful when in bloom, they were more pervasive and did more damage than the terrorists.

“Anymore threats?”

“When aren’t there threats?” Every damn day there were threats. “Why, is there a problem?”

“The brass is making noise. When they do something stupid, we end up paying for it.” Hamilton sounded disgusted. As Hamilton spoke, shots were fired over and through the fence, adding more holes to the dilapidated barrier. Nick and Hamilton hit the ground, rolling toward the sandbags to return fire through the cracks. “See what I mean?”

“Yeah it’s been a while since they shot at us, at least a couple of days.” Nick’s sarcasm caused Hamilton to laugh.

“Probably someone is coming to pick up something from the poppy fields and they want to keep us from seeing who.” Hamilton glanced at him. “You doing okay?”

“Gettin’ there. It was just a shock, ya know?”

“Yeah, damn women. The least they could do is be faithful while we’re out here fighting.”

“Yeah, it sucks. I just can’t help thinking it’s my fault.”

“Fuck. How the hell could it be? You weren’t even there. The bitch knew you were gone, were going to be gone.” They fired shots, aiming at the muzzle flash in the distance. More Marines headed their way, sprinting from cover to cover. Perez came running, bringing out ammo and providing more fire power.

Another crack and Perez went down with a cry.

“Fuck! Medic! Man down!” The cry went out, passed through until the call went to the corpsman, while Nick tried to stem the blood flow. Hands pushed his away. Nick looked up. Petty Officer Jones, better known as Doc, had bandages ready.

“Help me roll this on until we can get him out of here.” Her voice sent a ripple through him. Nick had always ignored the attraction he had felt for her. He’d had his girl back home, and fraternization out here could get him thrown in the brig. Not to mention the brig out here was a hell hole.

Nick was leery about approaching Doc now. The Dear John letter had been a shock. He had known Leila for years. Hell, they had been friends since they were little. Her betrayal was unexpected. Nick didn’t even really know Doc. He could trust her with his life, but he wasn’t ready for another go around with his heart, no matter the attraction he felt.

Nick looked toward the fence line, rifle at the ready. Shots were firing sporadically around him. That’s when he saw it, the trail from a grenade launcher, unmistakable. Shit!

Your Pick for the Oscars!

Tonight’s the Oscars! I don’t know why, but it’s the one awards show I truly enjoy. Maybe because I’m a huge fan of movies. Or maybe I love seeing the lavish dresses that only a shoe-horn can fit onto those lovely toned bodies. I enjoy the spectacles of the musical numbers and comedy sketches. I  love watching the cameras pan the audience so I can pick out the many famous faces. Did I ever mention I have one of those brains that remembers the names of actors who played in movies? If you say a movie name, I see the faces. I may only have seen that face once, but I can pick that face out of a cast of thousands in the next movie and tell you where I saw it. And when I have the name? It’s there forever. A completely useless talent—my brain’s just wired that way. Anyway, I’ll be seated on the couch with my dd watching the entire show and moaning or whooping for favorites. Will you?

I thought it might be fun to share our pick for the best picture award. Take the poll, then in the comments, if you like, tell me which actors you’re rooting for tonight!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Cathryn Fox: Yours to Take

Yesterday was fun! And when I closed out the “Free For All,” I still had friends who have stories you need to hear about. I’ll try to share as many of those as I can as time allows. In the meantime, check out my good friend, Cathryn Fox’s sexy new story!

YoursToTake_1000x1500 (2)

One year ago, when attorney Rebecca Andrews swept into the courtroom and took control, it turned Quinn Montgomery’s world upside down. Now, seeing her name on his manifesto, old memories are awakened, not of the hard-nosed lawyer who had far too many tricks up her sleeve, but of the sensual woman who spouted legal jargon from full pouting lips. Taking note of her destination, a posh vacation resort that caters to the more…private entertainment, a plan forms, and Quinn decides it’s time to show the sexy lawyer a few tricks of his own.

Against her better judgement, Rebecca Andrews accepts her friend’s invitation to an exclusive vacation resort. When her charter plane veers off course, the last person she expects to see piloting the craft is Quinn Montgomery—multi-millionaire and CEO of Montgomery Charters—the powerful man she once took down in the court room. Nor did she expect to find herself pseudo-kidnapped and stranded with him on his private island. She can leave, but when he tells her he wants to show her that real control comes in the form of surrender, Rebecca has two choices—run home to her boring life, or put herself in the hands of the commanding man who promises to give her everything she’s ever wanted in exchange for total and utter submission.

12ffaNote: Not a romance. A fun, hot, flashback to the 80′s inspired horror movies, where they bordered both steamy and gory.

Shana, Erron, and Marklon hadn’t realized life had more than a committed threesome in store for them. Like catching the serial killer monster who is leaving bloody body parts in restaurants throughout their small town—on platters no less.

The first murder and subsequent meal/gag occurred not long ago, at the upscale eatery, Carnal Cravings. Not long after, nearly every restaurant in town had served up some form of unexpected tartar. Heads on platters stuffed like prize pigs at luaus and people popsicles. Even deli-wrapped penises, taking Oscar Meyer Weiner to a whole new plane of pun, have rocked the sleepy little town of Crow Manor Maine to a state of panic.

It was then the nightmares began for Shana and her two men. It wasn’t long before she realized they weren’t nightmares but visions. They’d become attuned to the killer. As the threesome fight for their love and their lives, old skeletons tumble out of the closet that could literally carve them to shreds.

Playing for Real by Natasha Moore

Paolo’s Playhouse, Book 5

Paolo Mancini’s needs are simple: a committed relationship with a submissive who will let him love and care for her. But after a long, heartbreaking string of relationship failures, he’s beginning to think the perfect woman for him simply doesn’t exist.

When Julianne Barnes steps into his playhouse for one night of bondage sex, she blows him away with her beauty, sass and bravery. She could be the one…if she will allow him to show her how to weave bondage and submission into her life. And hopefully, into his.

Julianne keeps her craving for soft ropes, dark blindfolds, and strong fingers apart from “real life”, where this successful businesswoman doesn’t need anyone telling her what to do. Yet Paolo’s lyrical, steel-under-silk voice affects her body in ways that make her want to offer up her soul.

Slowly, delicately, Paolo tantalizes her closer to the idea that fantasy and reality can live as one. But to convince her it’s safe to open the last compartment protecting her emotions, he’ll have to expose his greatest vulnerability. His heart.

Warning: Features a petulant sub looking to live out her fantasies and a sexy Dom looking for love of the forever kind. Contains an intense sex-with-a-stranger fantasy, ropes, chains and a spanking. Or two. Or more.

There’s nothing better than a happy ending.

A Question…

Just a quick note, and then onto the question!

Thanks to everyone who bought REINED IN! I appreciate it very much. I hope you enjoy it, and when you’re done reading it, I’d very much appreciate an honest review, somewhere, to tell other readers about your experience. Readers do pay attention to reviews when they’re trying to decide whether to part with their money. Okay, that was the commercial, let’s have some fun.

I was at my daughter’s house last night. We’re watching SUPERNATURAL, from Season 1 on, because somehow, she missed that show. Can you imagine a life without Sam and Dean? Huh. Anyway, we were on the couch, and all her inside dogs (all little shortie Jack Russells), four of them, were draped over our laps. Two of her four cats were perched on cushions behind us. (She has to vacuum three times a day to keep up with fur and hair—TG, she has tile floors!). She has three large dogs in the back yard. And I wondered where I’d gone wrong. But then I thought, well there are four dogs at my place, an outdoor—sometimes indoor, when it’s cold—cat. I’m not much better. Plus, I have two horses on the pasture.

I don’t consider myself an animal person. I like fish, even though my last betta pulled a Nemo (escaped its fish bowl). But I live in a menagerie, so I wondered whether you have animals living with you as well. Are you a cat or dog person? Do you love snakes and lizards (I’ve always wanted a bearded!)? Birds? Or like me, do you love easy-care fish—when they aren’t committing suicide by jumping from their bowls…?

The story is personal, and sweet, and rough and real and I can’t wait to share it with the world.

In honor of it almost being out I’ve made a book trailer and it’s up on YouTube. Yea! Here’s the link…

Ink.

A three-lettered word that means different things to many people. Pictures and words that might stand as a reminder of love, loss, rebellion, or camaraderie. For Haleigh Grace, it meant freedom.

Walking through the doors of the tattoo parlor, Inkfluence, marked the start of taking her life back. Making it what she wanted it to be. No one was going to tell her she couldn’t. Not ever again.

Little did she know that behind those doors stood Kyle Muse. He was her best friend, who had walked away years ago without a backwards glance. The one man she fantasized would someday be her knight in shining armor. The one she saved herself for.

But, he has a knight of his own. Tall, dark, and dangerously sexy, Scott Preston. The owner of the very shop Haleigh has an appointment with at midnight.

Feelings long buried rise to the surface and the three find themselves bound by more than just ink…

REINED IN is here!

It’s been a while since the last Lone Star LoverTwo Wild for Teacher-–released. And I almost thought about ending it there and then, but I kept getting these messages from you readers. Two Mule Texas isn’t real y’all, although I’ve been asked where it was because someone wants to take a trip there. And someone else thought, hey, my husband’s best buddy is cute, I wonder if he’d give me something special for my birthday if I left your sexy book out where he could see… Wouldn’t recommend that, hon. But I get it. You like the escape, the thrill of that first encounter with a sexy man in Wranglers. And your imagination is a safe place to play.

Can a story change your life? Probably not, although I have had folks write and say a story put the oomph back into their marriage bed. We erotica writers get that a lot. What a story can do is tease and titillate, and maybe give you a lovely little mind-vacation. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.

So enjoy Reined In! Let me know if you want more stories set in Two Mule. And if you have time, please post a review. Let another reader know whether the time and the money they’re considering spending on my story is worth their while. I’d be forever grateful. Enjoy!

Snippet #1

If sin were personified, it would wear Joe Halloran’s wicked smile.

Stormy was just tired enough not to care where her thoughts had headed. Despite her fatigue, her heart beat a steady, heavy tattoo inside her chest as she followed him inside to her bedroom.

She’d misbehaved. A deliberate, calibrated taunt. And he hadn’t hesitated to rise to the bait. Had he finally gotten past the fact she was Reese Jordan’s little girl?

Lord, she’d been a rotten bitch and had no doubt left a bruise on the back of his hand. But it wasn’t anything more ornery than a dozen other acts she’d committed over the years, trying to get him to respond to her as something other than a bratty kid.

Her skin still itched where he’d rasped his palm up the inside of her leg. He’d been this close to sliding his hand over her pussy, and even though Cam would have had a bird’s eye view, she regretted the fact she’d lost her nerve at the last moment.

Fact was, she wouldn’t have minded Cam watching…

Snippet #2

Cam was stretched out on the bed, leaning on an elbow. Sometime while she’d been pleasuring Joe, he’d donned a condom.

Her breaths shortened. Surely he’d take her now.

“Come here, baby,” he said, holding out a hand.

She reached for it, aware Joe watched her every move. Excited for the chance to tease him and to get her fill of Cam’s enormous cock.

Cam pulled her onto the bed, moving his hands around her waist as he drew her close and then turned her to lie on her back. “He wants to watch,” he said, his gaze raking her body as he hovered over her.

“So he’ll watch,” she said, raising an eyebrow. “Show me what I’ve been missin’.”

He shook his head, a crooked grin stretching his mouth. “You like playin’ with fire.”

“Gonna make me burn?”

Cam chuckled. “I’ve had my fantasies too, you know.”

Stormy picked up a lock of hair sticking to her skin and used the end to tease one of her hardened nipples. “Haven’t we all?”

He surprised her, leaning down to kiss her, then bypassed her mouth to scoot down her body. He dove straight for the breast she’d teased and gobbled it up, pulling as much of the round globe into his mouth as he could and sucking hard—so hard her toes curled and her legs drew up instinctively.

Cam angled his body over hers, settling between her spread legs and letting her feel his weight. He burrowed his mouth into her breast, flicking his tongue at the tip and then nibbling at it until she gripped his broad torso with her thighs.

Switching to the opposite side, he continued to play with the abandoned nipple, tweaking and tugging while he drew on the other breast.

Her breaths shattered, coming in gusts. Her body writhed. He scooted downward again, hard hands gripping her waist as he sucked at her abdomen, leaving love marks on her belly as he moved lower still.

When he hovered over her mound, she didn’t think she’d last a minute, because the look in his eyes was desperate, his face tense, the set of his jaw determined. When he stroked her folds with his tongue, she jerked upward, the first touch so electric she couldn’t hold back a cry. The next and the next had her head thrashing on the pillow.

Joe sitting in the chair was forgotten. Cam filled her vision, stole her breaths and her mind, sliding his tongue into her and then retreating to lap the length of her pussy before he narrowed his focus on her clit.

He stroked it with his tongue, flicked it, swirled on it, alternating the actions until she was raking his scalp with her fingernails, desperate to come. “Cam, oh please, please.”

He latched his lips around her swollen bud and suckled, and at last, she was lost, moans coming one after the other as darkness crowded in on her…

Snippet #3

Behind her, hands aligned her hips. A cock prodded between her folds and then thrust deep.

Impaled in front and back, she soared, so filled she felt as though she were a doll, moved forward and back, unable to resist the hands forcing her hips, the fingers gripping her scalp.

They were fucking her—Cam taking her mouth, Joe her cunt. She wished she could see, but her mind filled with images, both men naked, her held helpless between them and put to sweet use.

This was what she wanted in her bed, what she craved—to be controlled and loved with abandon. She was free. Freed to soar, freed of self-will and control…

Sidney Bristol — Picture Her Bound

Hello Readers!

Thanks so much to Delilah for hosting me. I love dropping by her blog and chatting it up with the readers here! I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been so wrapped up in watching the Olympics that I’ve let so many things sort of sneak up on me. The laundry—that might be the worst one yet. I’m pretty sure it’s about to grow legs and attack me… If I don’t show up to chat in the comments, send help. I’ve probably been drug off under the bed by a ferocious pair of yoga pants.

Sometimes the best things in life happen when we aren’t paying attention or looking for them. This last week I got some good news I wasn’t expecting. I met my boyfriend when I’d just decided to remain single. I got the phone call of a lifetime when I was looking for a reason to procrastinate. All sorts of things happen when you just don’t think anything of note is going to crop up in the next couple of days.

I think my favorite stories of how my friends have met their significant others go much the same way. They were out for groceries for a girl’s weekend and bumped buggies with this cute, geeky guy. They were focused on getting this great part in a community play and wound up practicing their lines to the man they’d marry. They were broken down on the side of the road and a really cute girl stopped in her pick-up truck and jack. Yes, all of those are real life stories. And I love them for their quirkiness, the uniqueness of how unexpected they are.

Sometimes it’s a little hard for me to decide how to—ah—encourage my hero and heroines into meeting. I don’t want things to be unbelievable, but the stories of happenstance are just the ones that tug at my heart.

I love books with meet cutes that make me laugh. I think Victoria Dahl takes the cake with that one. If you haven’t read her books, I highly suggest them. I really dig the powerful, immediate connection Nalini Singh’s changelings have. Then there are the instances where the characters lay eyes on each other and someone’s man/lady bits start doing funny things. I’m a fan of the show, Millionaire Matchmaker, and she calls that reaction your “picker”.

Some people have a pretty accurate picker, and some people just pick the wrong. That’s where a lot of the bad boy tropes come in. A girl just has to pick the one bad guy out of the bunch… until the bad guy she picks turns out to be a good one in disguise. I’ve never had a particularly good picker myself, so I empathize with my fellow poor-pickers. I like to chalk it up to interesting life experiences to fuel writing.

I’m giving away a copy of my latest release, Picture Her Bound, to someone who can either a) recommend a book with a really great meet-cute or b) share a story about how they met a significant other.

I’ll share my story first!

Christmas 2012 I was bound and determined to stay single. I went to a Christmas party where my friends wanted to introduce me to a couple single guy friends. I thanked them, but I was both newly out of a relationship and healing from surgery, so really uninterested. They made the introductions anyways. I shook my current boyfriend’s hand, said hello and walked away as fast as I could. I knew he was trouble—and I was right. But I kind of like his trouble, so we get along just fine.

Picture Her Bound, Bayou Bound 1

Officer Odalia Foucheaux is a desperate woman. Incriminating photographs of her after-hours job as a fetish model have been stolen, and she’s willing to break rules to get them back. Standing in her way? The very dominant bounty hunter Jacques Savoy.

Jacques has been watching out for Officer Foucheaux. He wants her safe from harm as much as he desires her body, her soul—and her submission. Odalia’s in trouble and struggling to walk the line of the law. His solution? Work together to find out who stole her pictures, what the thief wants and how to stop him. And if they find a pleasure unlike any other along the way, well, laissez les bons temps rouler.

Let the good times roll.

Excerpt

Odalia Foucheaux pulled her hair up in a messy knot on top of her head and glared at the man strapped to a metal pole in the men’s restroom. Through the windows behind her victim, the lights of New Orleans glittered as another Christmas drew to a close on the bayou. The drunken carousing was in full swing, but tonight it wasn’t her problem.

Tonight she was just a woman with a gun and a mission she hated more than her worst enemy.

The sounds of the loud bar echoed through the restroom, disguising the snitch’s babbling.

Kenny Douglas was a police informant known for caving under pressure. He’d given a lot of bad information over the years, and at least one officer had taken a bullet for this piece of shit’s bad intel.

“You’re crazy, bitch. Someone, help!” Kenny tried to twist, but the leather belt held him in place. He had a bump on his head, but she hadn’t been able to help that. He was a small man, about five-eight, just her size. Taking him by surprise had been her best option.

The law-abiding cop in her screamed, revolted by how low she’d sunk. But if she didn’t protect herself, no one would. It was a lesson she’d learned early on in life, but never had it brought her to such a dark place.

“I’m off the clock, Kenny. This little chat? It’s just between you and me.” Odalia sauntered toward him, hating herself and Kenny for putting her in this position. If she could put it all to rights, she could pretend like this chapter in her life had never happened at all.

“What do you want?” Sweat poured down Kenny’s brow, and his skin was bright red from the large quantities of alcohol he’d sucked down before going to relieve himself. Idiot hadn’t even realized who’d sent him more drinks through the course of the evening.

Besides, Odalia had needed the time to talk herself into this. There was no turning back once she’d begun. She’d always followed the rules, kept her nose clean and kept her life outside the uniform quiet. Until now.

“I’m going to ask you once, Kenny. Who wanted you to steal the camera?” She pushed her leather jacket back over her hips, letting the petty criminal catch a glimpse of the piece she carried. Not her officer-issued gun, she wasn’t stupid.

“I didn’t steal no camera. You got to believe me,” he wailed.

Odalia glared at the man. After the camera had turned up missing during a break in the photo shoot, she’d found a jacket with Kenny’s name stitched on the breast. It had been tossed over the barbed-wire fence around the studio her blazing-hot photographer friend had rented for the Christmas Eve shoot. She knew Kenny had been there. And she knew someone must have put him up to stealing the camera. Kenny wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box.

Which made her wonder, who put him up to it? Who knew about her off-the-clock gig?

She modeled lingerie, underwear and funky clothing for a couple of small businesses for their websites and advertisements, never showing her face. The work was commercial, but she’d wanted to do something different. Something more artistic, like the Inked photo shoot.

A local Dominant had asked her to do an artistic BDSM photo shoot, one that touched on that most private aspect of her lifestyle. For anyone else she’d have said no. But there was something about the chocolate-skinned man that got to her. The shoot had been more intense than many play sessions she’d had, and she’d allowed herself to go further than she would have with a new scene partner.

Her commanding officer wouldn’t understand the kinky nature of the photographs, wouldn’t see them for the beautiful portrayal of bondage and submission that they were.

She pulled the empty gun from her waistband. Her piece normally gave her comfort, but now it was a dead weight, pulling her down to the ground.

“Oh fuck.” Kenny thrashed, twisting around the pole, but the belt held him fast.

“Kenny, I’m not going to ask again.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, crazy bitch!”

I don’t want to do this. I wish there was another way.

Odalia shook her head and sighed. “Kenny—”

Someone pounded on the bathroom door.

“Hey—” Kenny snapped his teeth together so loud they clicked.

Odalia lifted the gun and laid a finger over his lips. “Just a second,” she yelled over her shoulder.

The door burst inward. A man clothed head-to-toe in black barged in and tackled Odalia, wrapping his arms around her from behind.

She went down hard, grunting as she banged her knee, and the gun slid from her grasp. She knocked the side of her head on the floor, jarring her teeth. The scent of urine, grime and sweat filled her nostrils and her skin crawled, disgust churning her stomach. She kicked and thrashed, but the man was bigger and stronger than her.

“Don’t fight me, bébé,” a deep, husky voice said.

Odalia gasped. What the fuck was he doing here?

“This ain’t the way.” He hoisted her to her feet and grabbed the gun, shoving it in a deep coat pocket.

Fils de putain,” she spat and twisted in his hold, but his grip on her arm was like iron.

“You.” He pointed at Kenny with his free hand. “Don’t utter a word of this. Do you know who I am?”

Kenny’s complexion resembled a ghost’s on All Hallow’s Eve. He nodded, eyes large. “Bounty hunter. Y-you’re Savoy.”

“You know who I work with?”

“B-Bayou Hunters.”

“A peep outta you and the gators’ll be your best friends,” he drawled, voice low and dangerous. “If I don’t get you, one of my team will.”

“Y-yes.” Kenny nodded hard enough that he cracked the back of his head against the metal pole.

Jacques Savoy turned toward her. His dark complexion communicated tightly wound aggression. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t speak disrespectfully of my mamma. Now, you’re coming with me, bébé.”

“No, I am not.”

Odalia tried to wrench her arm out of his grasp, but the bastard wasn’t letting her go. He dragged her through the drunken crowd of the Bourbon Street bar and out onto the strip, ducking onto a side street at the first opportunity. The entire district around the iconic street was one big party every night of the year, but the side streets were quieter, though no cleaner. She smelled the build-up of refuse over the Christmas holiday, stale beer and other elements she didn’t want to identify.

“Let. Go. Of. Me.” She kicked the back of his leg and twisted, getting free of his grasp and whirling away.

Odalia dashed toward the beckoning light of the street, only to be jerked back by her jacket. She threw an elbow and hit his ribs. Her lower arm went numb, and he didn’t so much as grunt.

“That’s it,” he grumbled and shoved her into the nearest brick wall, pinning her.

“Fuck you,” she growled and tried to throw her weight against him. She might have been obedient and eager during their photo shoot, but this wasn’t the set, and it wasn’t a dungeon.

“Take a deep breath and use your fucking head, officer.” He spat the last word.

Odalia bit her lip. His voice jarred her to clarity. Her body reacted to him despite her resolve not to. He was too potent to resist. She hated whoever had orchestrated the theft. She hated herself for sinking low. And she hated this man for seeing her at her worst.

Hot tears of rage fell on her cheek. She was powerless, completely helpless after she’d vowed to never again allow herself to be a victim. And here she was. A victim once more.

“Shh, bébé. Shh. I’m here. We’re going to fix this.” His arms wrapped around her from behind, and his big body cradled her.

For once in her life, she wanted to believe the lies someone spoke.

If only Jacques could fix it.
