When paranoia has exhausted its evolutionary utility, there comes a choice: to fear or to accept (i.e. to recalibrate the understanding of what is the new normal).

Love of the Abstract

Chances are I am saying something you already know: all the words to connect the following set of dots are already right there, on the surface... Love is an addiction (of the opioid kind): we don't call it chemistry for nothing. As such, love comes with cravings, habituation, tolerance and, when lost, with withdrawal. And, at least for now, love is a legal high. But it's conceivable that it won't always be - check 1984 by Orwell to see what I mean. The social danger of love is that love is bias, love is partiality, love is discrimination (a preference for one person over another), love is a loss of objectivity. So, you can see where Orwell might be coming from with his dystopian vision: people in love are drunk, intoxicated, and thus hard to control. Controlling a population in love is like herding cats. So, naturally, any control-hungry Big Brother society will eventually gravitate towards some form of patriotism or a state-religion or some messianic mission. All these common-denominator builders serve to harness our cravings for love and to redeploy them in a socially controllable manner. So, watch out for the love of the abstract! But we don't have to wait around for some loveless future: love of the abstract is all around us and it looks like tedious obsession. Take idealism or perfectionism, for example: in both cases people chase the abstract... I can see that I am now standing on my familiar soap box. And all of this intellectualizing just because I had nothing to do for a few minutes while waiting on a kettle to boil. Well, it's finally boiling.

Reading about Himmler: world war was meant as a sweeping cultural detox. As for Himmler himself - no psychopathy here, just plain ol' neurosis. Same with Hitler by the way. Conclusion: neurotic narcissists can be far more dangerous than psychopaths.

Got Nothing?

Got nothing. But I am self-made. Psychologically speaking, that is. Got a lot.
