Her eyes are flowers
Her eyes are flowers
That turn towards the sun
Her hair is tangling vines that run
Over your carefully manicured lawn
After the rain. She wakes at dawn
Hungry for the kiss of sunlight.
She is the shadows of leaves
The sound of roots pushing into the earth
She is the silent ancient mirth
Of ivy gnawing at buildings
Of the conquest of bindweed. She never
Yields an inch of ground.
She is the smell of wet earth,
Compost and leaf mould and worm-cast,

Wandering
Changing Paths challenge day 25 — wandering
Wandering, like wavering and wondering, is a good thing. There is a whole genre of songs in German called Wanderliede, about hiking.
And as JRR Tolkien wisely remarked, not all those who wander are lost.

Nature notes (May)
View this post on InstagramNature notes! The mayapples are out; the trilliums are just going over. Forget me nots in flower. Dogwood in bloom. 12°C outside. Saw a rabbit in the woods. Lots of maple keys everywhere. Lots of Jack-by-the-hedge (garlic mustard); it’s an invasive species here.A post shared by 𝗬𝘃𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 (@yvonne_aburrow)

Longing
Changing Paths challenge day 23 — longing.
There are various words in other languages that can be approximately translated as longing or yearning. Sehnsucht (German), a longing for a person or a place. Saudade (Portuguese), melancholic longing for a person or a place. Hiraeth (Welsh), a longing for home, possibly unattainable since we cannot revisit the past. Hopes and fears
When I chose this prompt, I was thinking of the position in the solar cross Tarot spread that corresponds to hopes and fears.
But now, with the news that we will be crossing the 1.5°C global warming threshold in the next few years, I’m reminded of the Seven Fires Prophecy of the Anishinaabe.

Dreams
Once I dreamed that I was walking across a rocky sandy landscape (the bedrock was reddish sandstone) and saw an old church. But the surprising thing was what was inside the church…

Solidarity with the Sisters
Solidarity with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Great post from Matt Bernstein on the subject of the LA Dodgers disinviting the Sisters from their Pride event after some Catholics complained.
Let’s face it, our very existence as out and proud LGBTQ2SIA people offends the Catholic Church, so I’m not sure why these events have suddenly decided to throw the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence under the bus. They do AMAZING work. I read up recently about the amount of effort and community...
