June 22, 2023: Munchkin Witches Takes Flight

Now that it has been delivered to backers, our recent Kickstarter success Munchkin Witches has landed in Warehouse 23! This mini-expansion features 30 cards illustrated by the incredible Len Peralta (Munchkin Clowns, Munchkin Apocalypse Guest Artist Edition) and mixes any game of Munchkin with new witch-themed Door and Treasure cards. June 21, 2023: Geek Tropical Munchkin Shirts Coming Soon

Summer is heating up here in Austin, where we're hitting over 100 degrees already. We need to cool down with something a bit more . . . tropical. A nice frozen drink? Some shade under a palm tree? Those are good, but a nice Hawaiian shirt would complete the ensemble. Fortunately, we've partnered with the folks at Geek Tropical for a Munchkin -themed line of Hawaiian shirts! Geek Tropical has been making some amazing casual- wear shirts based on geeky properties, so Munchkin is a perfect fit for their nerdy fits. 

The line debuts June 26 with multiple designs, so keep an eye out on Geek Tropical's site for the release. Never pick up a duck in a dungeon, but definitely pick up a duck-patterned Hawaiian shirt from Geek Tropical!

June 20, 2023: Gen Con Events Filling Up Fast

Summer is heating up, and that means Gen Con is right around the corner. We're preparing for an awesome show and wanted to make sure attendees were also prepared for fun! We'll have a number of games to check out at the main booth #1401, but we also have a dedicated event space with free ticketed events. Many demos have sold out, but there are still quite a few tickets available to learn some new and upcoming games like Wiz-War , Caligula , and Tabloids . There are also classics and recent hits like Munchkin and Hack & Slash . 

I'd also like to shout out our friends, the Forbeck family, who will be hosting a Munchkin event in honor of the late Munchkin Czar Andrew Hackard. This event continues the tradition of Andrew playing the Forbeck family every Gen Con, and it's great to see the tradition continue in his honor.

June 19, 2023: Burning Roads Out Now!

You may have heard murmurs of upcoming  Car Wars fiction. Well, it's here!  Burning Roads  is the first entry in the Dead Man's Run story arc, kicking off the licensed Car Warriors: The Autoduel Chronicles series by Three Ravens Publishing. I'll let the back of the book take it from here:

Atlanta cabbie by day, amateur autoduellist by night, Ricky Turner is living the dream. That is, until he wakes up in a Gold Cross facility to discover his last match was more than a failure, it was a fatality. Indebted for the cost of the clone body and reboot, Ricky heads back to the arena to do the one thing he's good at: drive offensively! But at the rate amateur matches pay out, it'll take several lifetimes to clear his debt. Luckily the AADA has announced a new nationwide road rally, designed to challenge even the heartiest of autoduelling teams and with prizes fit for a king. Its name? Dead Man's Run! Can Ricky and his clandestine crew traverse the wasteland from Atlanta to Sturgis and survive against packs of cannibals, roving biker gangs, and wannabe autoduellists out to make a name for themselves?

I got an early look at this one, and I enjoyed it immensely, at least after receiving assurances that any resemblance between bit characters in the story and the current line editor of Car Wars is purely coincidental. I think you will, too. Get it on Kindle or Print on Demand from Amazon, or pick up a digital copy on Warehouse 23. And if you're going to be at Liberty Con this weekend, you'll be able to find a physical copy (and get it signed by WJR)! It'll be a great con; SJ and I will also be there, running some  Car Wars ,   among other things.

June 18, 2023: #SJGamesLive Streams Move To Twitch

Our dedicated #SJGamesLive viewers may know about our recent dedicated streaming platform Twitch, but since some folks may have missed, it we wanted to share it far and wide. Our streams are now found live on Twitch every Thursday at 2 p.m. Central, with stream recordings being uploaded to YouTube the following day. This allows us to take advantage of the streaming tools a bit more and to keep improving our streams. You can still watch without an account, but if you have a Twitch account you can click Follow to get an alert when we go live. Tune in and chat with us on Thursdays while we play games, paint minis, and more!

June 16, 2023: Munchkin Polyhedral Dice Sets Now In Stores

It took a few years longer than we would have liked, but we can happily report that the Munchkin polyhedral dice sets are now in stores worldwide! Perfect for use with many fantasy roleplaying games, especially various editions and titles inspired by the classic ampersand game, each pack (four different colors available) includes seven polyhedral dice: 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d%, 1d12, and 1d20.

June 14, 2023: Hide Your Cheese Dip! Groo Is Coming To Kickstarter!

The long-awaited Second Edition of  Groo: The Game  launches on Kickstarter this Thursday!  Groo: The Game first came out in 1997, and in the intervening two decades, the original game and its expansion set have both become collector's items. The new edition combines both into a single box, with development and tweaks by Steve Jackson. We've also upgraded the components; a printed dice bag and tuck box make the game super-portable, and the new dice are a truly Groo-sized handful at 25mm! For the uninitiated, Groo hails from the Groo The Wanderer comic by Sergio Aragones, first published in Mad Magazine in the early 80s. Groo the Barbarian is a comic take on the classic fantasy hero – he's brave, daring, and completely brainless. When he comes to town, armies melt away and buildings fall. He doesn't MEAN it . . . it just happens. 

In  Groo: The Game , players are scrambling to build their towns before our hapless hero smashes everything to bits. Between sending the well-meaning Groo to lay waste to neighboring towns and marching troops over to knock down any buildings he may have missed,  Groo  is a fast, zany, take-that game that fits right in to any game collection featuring at least one version of  Munchkin.  Groo The Wanderer is a little before my time, so my first introduction to this lovable buffoon was at GAMA Expo in April, where our team ran countless demos of  Groo: The Game  for industry attendees at the game nights. I immediately fell in love with the bumbling barbarian and his adorable pup, Rufferto, and it was an absolute blast to see how much enthusiasm and nostalgia so many people had for the comic and game! I'll leave you with a couple of quotes from folks who are closer to this than I am:

"I played this game a lot when it first came out, and the comic Groo is just awesome. So I went to great lengths to get the right to republish it, and I think it was time well spent. Enjoy, and may Groo leave you something besides rubble when he visits your town." – Steve Jackson

June 13, 2023: Gregor's Guide To Gates Now In Stores

This collection of planar gates and d66 extraplanar strangers was created as an OSR work for use with most editions – and derivatives of! – the classic ampersand roleplaying game. It's a tiny, slender volume coming in at 64 pages and was a blast to create. I've always been a fan of writing RPG supplements that are as minimal in their game statistics as possible, and Gregor's Guide to Gates is one of my best personal works of 2022.

Now, I'm happy to report that Steve Jackson Games has published a softcover edition of the book and shipped it to stores worldwide. Some of the concepts presented in this book come from as far back as 2004 and 2005, way back when I was wriitng D20 System support. That older content has been reworked and combined with a lot of new material that I wrote specifically for this new book. I'm quite proud of the work I did on the book and it's a real treat to see it hitting game stores.
