May 20, 2014: The Oatmeal Likes The Tesla

I know, that sounds like fnorder output, but it's not.

I've had my Tesla Model S for a year now, and I'm still just delighted with it, rooting for Tesla to succeed, and recommending the car to anyone who will stand still and listen to me. Apparently I'm not the only one. It turns out that Matt Inman, the creator of "The Oatmeal," owns a Model S. And he did a strip about it.

Like most of his strips, it's very subtle and reserved.*  But you get the distinct impression that he's happy with the car. This is a fun read.

And it turns out that the person who turned Matt Inman on to the Tesla is Matt Harding, the creator of one of my very favorite videos ever. That's just neat.

May 17, 2014: Diesel Filling Station In Atlanta Sounds Awesome!

Diesel Fillin Station

The atlantamagazine.com  site posted a listing of Atlanta restaurants earlier this month under the title of "Where gamers go to dine" . . . and now I need an excuse to rush back to the Atlanta area for "business." And I'll need to plan my "business trip" so that I can visit the Diesel Filling Station on Wednesday night so that I can play games, including Munchkin ! Adding in the vintage console games, Nerd-Core Tuesdays, and the burgers listed on the site's menu I think I may need a multi-day "business trip" to Atlanta.

It's a good thing our partners at PSI are based in the Atlanta area. It's time I reach out to them to arrange a very important series of meetings. Hey, "business dinners" are a part of the modern culture, right?

May 12, 2014: How An Unexpected Idea Becomes A Secret Project

Super Seekrit!

At the GAMA Trade Show last month, during one of our retailer presentations, a simple question was asked that immediately had my brain turning over. (I would share the question with you, but that would kinda kill the "secret" part of the secret Munchkin project.) After thinking the idea over for an afternoon, and then consulting with our Sales Director, Ross Jepson, I took the rough seed of a project idea to Steve, Andrew, Ross, and Sam and instantly started sketching out ideas.

Over the next few weeks Sam and I traded emails with each other, scribbled out ideas, and then looped in David, our rep at GPI, to discuss how to turn all of our concepts into a solid and physical thing. The three of us shared Sam's refined concept art – based on a blend of his ideas and my rough sketches – and talked through the next steps . . . which we are taking as I write this.

Wish us luck! If we press on this there may be a fun and unexpected Munchkin accessory available for the holidays. I know I'm anxious to follow this idea through to the end, and I think many of you will really appreciate what we've created once we move from "secret project" to "it's here!"

May 11, 2014: WonderCon Tips

Castellan at WonderCon!

David N. Scott over at Topless Robot did a nice, thourough writeup of all the things he learned doing game demos at WonderCon. It's a great report of the con itself, giving you an idea of what to expect should you attend; however, it's also a pretty awesome primer on how to prepare for and manage running demos at any con. There are tips in here that are universally useful for those committing to being at a specific place at a specific time, as well as those that are more specific to WonderCon. Also, he says some really nice things about us!

We'd like to thank David for all the demos of our games that he runs; he does a lot for us and we appreciate it.
