February 15, 2025: Dungeon Zoology: An Evolutionary Approach

At Pax Unplugged this past December, I had the privilege of presenting a panel on using evolutionary science as inspiration for tabletop roleplaying games. February 14, 2025: Watch 50 Years Of Gaming History On Gen Con TV

Gen Con celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. As part of the festivities, Peter Addison and Jon Peterson organized a series of panels that celebrated the history of tabletop gaming and the people behind some of your favorite properties. Now those talks are available to view on Gen Con TV on Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:00 p.m. Pacific. The list of episodes is impressive and covers everything from the origins of Gen Con itself to the prevalence of gaming accessories to tradable card games. (Look for our own Steve Jackson in In the Shadow of the Castle, which details the experiences of those outside the iconic 1980s Dungeons & Dragons castle on the Gen Con exhibition floor.) Whether you're interested in gaming history, gaming culture, or want an insider's perspective on the industry, this series is worth a look.

As fans of sci fi, we often wonder when we'll see technologies in real life that we enjoy in our games and stories. So far, we've gotten handheld computers that would give the protagonists of 1970s novels a serious case of jealousy, little robots that vacuum our homes, and frequent new updates on when our cars will drive themselves. But what about weapons? When will you be able to blast your foes with bolts of plasma? We're not quite there, but someone is working on it.

February 12, 2025: Join The Quest: The Fighting Fantasy Crowdfund Starts Soon!

Back in October, we announced that Steve Jackson Games would be bringing Fighting Fantasy back to the US for the first time in over two decades. We're a huge step closer to making that a reality. Here comes the Kickstarter campaign that will bring the first five books to life! If you're a fan of Fighting Fantasy or solo gamebooks in general, you'll want to sign up to be notified on launch – the crowdfunding campaign will feature some limited options that will not be available upon wide release. In other words, this is your chance to get an exclusive set of the first five Fighting Fantasy titles, as well as some additional goodies. But there is a catch. February 11, 2025: Welcome Possum Creek!

We are thrilled to announce that Possum Creek, the award-winning independent game publisher, has joined Steve Jackson Games as an imprint. Based in Philadelphia, Possum Creek is best known for Wanderhome , a pastoral fantasy RPG about traveling animal-folk. Wanderhome has won numerous awards, including ENNIEs for Best Family-Friendly Game, Best Cover Art, and Best Interior Art. As an imprint, Possum Creek will still have full creative and editorial control over their titles. However, the Possum Creek team will also lend their talents to the SJ Games design and visual branding. Jay Dragon, Editorial Director at Possum Creek, will join our Board Of Directors and become our Lead Game Designer. Ruby Lavin will become our Art Director while retaining that position at Possum Creek. What does all of this mean? It means that Steve Jackson Games will keep bringing innovative, exciting, and fun games to the tabletop gaming community – and that we have even more talented people to help us in that mission. We can't wait to see what comes next!

February 10, 2025: The Ultimate Case Of "Oops, All Bards!"

I've been a Blind Guardian fan for a while now, but it's only recently that I learned that these German power-metal legends have their own board game. Yes, you read correctly! It looks like the band has teamed up with Italian game company Scribabs Boardgames to create From The Other Side , a cooperative game that sees players team up to stop an evil dragon from destroying the Realms of Imagination. As the dragon and his minions wreak havoc, the realm's protector, known as the Blind Guardian (yes, really), summons four heroes – the Minstrel, the Blacksmith, the Spellcaster, and the Warden – to fight back and save the day. I haven't yet played From The Other Side , and I'm not sure when I'll get a chance. (It looks like it's only available in Europe for now.) That's a bit of a shame, because I'd love to see what it's like. The description and tone definitely fit the band's oeuvre – I'd expect nothing less from a group inspired by Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance, and The Witcher series – and the artwork for the player cards is clearly based on the band members themselves. It's more than a little nerdy, but that winking self-awareness is part of why I love Blind Guardian in the first place.  Have you played From  The Other Side ? Tell us about it!

Back on January 30, Jean McGuire wrote about creating an edible setup for Melee using cookies, icing, and candy. It turns out that one of you decided to bring this beautiful creation to life! Over on Bluesky, user wgahnagl (Jeromy) posted a great picture of a culinary Fantasy Trip that looks good enough to . . . well, you know how that cliche goes. Do you have any pictures of a similar gaming/baking mashup?
