Hot n’ Sprung Blog Hop (there are prizes — lots and lots of prizes)
First, thanks to Laurel Cremant for inviting me to participate in this wicked, wicked event, and thanks to both RaeLynn Blue and Laurel for organizing it! I’m supposed to tell you what makes a night hot and romantic for me — and I’m sure you’re dying to know (snort). I’m a non-demanding kind of girl, so I don’t require a lot to make me happy. Simple thoughtfulness usually works for me. If a man is all freshly showered and he’s cleared the house of everyone but him and me AND he’s cooked something delicious for me, then I’m putty in his hands. That’s it. Uncomplicated. Though I wouldn’t say no to them, I don’t need candles, flowers or even wine. Just him.
As for reading material…well…I have three suggestions that will definitely get you in the mood for a hot, romantic night with your honey! Click on the pictures to find out more about the books.
My first choice is Milk & Honey by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb. This book is incredibly good! And isn’t that cover gorgeous?
Summary: When a massive land development deal brings together high-powered dealmaker Cypher Lawrence and latter day hippie goat herder Jacinto Blakemore the last thing either expects is an explosive attraction that leaves them desperate for more.
Next up is I Hadn’t Anyone ‘Til You by Janet Eckford. My God, Edward Ambrose is awesome!
Summary: Edward Ambrose isn’t particularly sure how morally reprehensible a man had to be to entertain thoughts of sex at a funeral but when faced with endless legs, perfect skin and a mouth that is criminally wicked, can he really be condemned? He is, however, pretty certain that every secretive fantasy he’s had over the years about friend and former classmate Mia Peyton has somehow snowballed into something major, something incredible, illogical and terrifying in the wake of her adoptive grandmother’s death. It’s something that he can’t let go of.
My last choice is one of my own because…well, because it’s sexy and it’s mine, and it’s good!
Summary: Kendra and Sloan have been together for four years — four wonderful, delightfully sex-filled and happy years. No, the years haven’t been without their hurdles. Said hurdles, however, are not enough to stop the two lovebirds from planning their wedding. Kendra thinks the obstacles have mostly been because of her fear that Sloan will leave her, as her father had her mother and her. She tries to stem the neurotic flow but sometimes….well, she just can’t. And it’s those few times that land them in trouble.
The Hot n’ Sprung Blog Hop is going on through the sixth, so happy hopping good people!

Get you some of this
Here they are, Sloan and Kendra my first engaged (that they are is only through the grace of God and infinite patience) couple, ready to perform for your reading pleasure. This is a re-issue of a book I published with Loose-id in 2010. I’ve gotten my rights back, added some new scenes and got a brand-spankin’ new cover. Here’s what the book is all about:
Kendra Masters and Sloan Johnson have been together for four years. In Sloan’s mind, they have mostly been four wonderful years with a few hurdles and bumps and scrapes along the way. The hurdles weren’t enough to stop them from falling in love with one another, and they are finally ready to get married: the rings have been bought, the dress picked out, the priest and church scheduled and the reception hall rented. He’s all set to go.
Kendra’s all set to go, as well…or so she thinks. She wants to be, honestly she does. But in her mind they’d had those bumps and scrapes mostly because of her fear that Sloan will one day leave her, as her father had her mother and her when she was twelve. She knows it’s an irrational fear, and tries to stem the neurotic tide. Most of the time she is able to do so. It’s those few times that she isn’t that lands them in trouble and her in therapy in an effort to work through her issues.
Just when they think they’re all sorted out and on the right track, Sloan finds himself having to contend with thievery in his law firm, the possibility of losing his license to practice, and an irresponsible brother he hasn’t seen for months who brings himself and trouble to his doorstep. Meanwhile, Kendra has to deal with her bitter, undermining mother, and the specter of her neurosis rearing its ugly head again.
All this adds up to Kendra being left alone in the church on her wedding day, which in the minds of many –including Kendra– is an unforgivable offense on Sloan’s part. Neither is sure they can repair the damage.

Will they or won’t they? Did he or didn’t he?
You, your family, your colleagues, your friends…Romans…countrymen — anyone who loves a story that’s got everything: tears, laughter, bad guys, the seemingly irredeemable, redemption, love, lust — are invited to spend your hard-earned money on the re-release of Do Me Right, a full-length masterpiece that will come out on Friday. There are new scenes, which means there are more opportunities for you to laugh, cringe, be surprised, nod in agreement, cheer in encouragement, salivate…
Save the date: Friday, the 18th to meet (or re-connect) with Kendra Masters and Sloan Johnson, two people who have the uncanny ability to make each other insanely happy and frequently, well…just plain old insane.
Thanks, and see you then!

I Write Like…
both Stephen King and David Foster Wallace (1962-2008) apparently — and all in the same book! Two bestselling authors. Yaay, me! So…I snitched this link from Crystal Hubbard’s FaceBook page the other day. What you do is go to the page and put text in from some of your writing. The page then comes back with a suggestion of who you as an author “write like”. I put in passages from two different sections of Simply Wicked, the redux. I’m flattered because I’ve re-done the book so that it’s not only more suspenseful, but also more romantic and humorous. I’m more familiar with Stephen King’s work, but I’ll take David Foster Wallace, too, a consistent bestseller and four-star rating getter!
Of course it’s all in fun, and who knows what the site’s parameters are for choosing the authors, but I’m still quite flattered!

Lisa

Lots of new stuff in the book, but old cover
I’ve been talking about the reinvention of this book (#SimplyWickedredux) for a couple of weeks now. I need a new cover. Heroine is a rising…well…wicked starlet in love with the reserved CEO of a British multinational. She’s overcome tragedy and is now daring and irreverent, while he’s practical and almost (but not quite) no-nonsense. Did I mention that she’s 22 and he’s 36, and the older brother of her college roommate? She’s the only child of American parents, a bit spoiled, and a take charge kind of person with a fun personality who believes in living each day to its fullest. He’s the oldest son of a British Lord and Lady who works hard and is trying to prove himself capable of running the company. She wants him, is determined to have him, and she scares the be-Jesus out of him. He’s more than attracted, but believes he’s too old for her and avoids her as if she thinks football is actually the same as American football. The fact that his family adores her, and would like nothing more than to welcome her into the bosom of the family, affords him no help AT ALL.
Because she’s all the things described above and there’s lots of humor in the book, it’s tempting to go with a somewhat whimsical cover. However, there’s danger running throughout the book as well, as the characters travel from London to Chicago and back again. Which is why when it was originally published in ’08, the publisher went with the cover above. I like the cover, but it really isn’t a fit for the book. I could go with another cover in the same vein as that one, but again, not really a fit. It’s difficult to find/develop something that incorporates both humor and danger.
Yeah. It’s a quandary, all right.

The Evolution of Clair Huxtable into Being Mary Jane
Something to think about. That is all.
Originally posted on Danielle M. Koonce:
Perhaps a more suitable title for this blog would be, “The Deterioration of Clair Huxtable into Being Mary Jane,” but for the sake of attracting readership I chose to go with the word, ‘evolution.’ I wanted to purposely offend all of your memories of the smooth, professional, beautiful wife, mother of five, New York City lawyer, television persona, Clair Huxtable and make you think twice about your affections for the the charming, beautiful, professional adulterer, Mary Jane.

Rerelease Wednesday (Yes, I made that up, and yes, I missed it by 24 hours)
After the Morning After was first published in 2011 by Loose-Id books. It was a pretty popular book, and featured my first Asian-American male character, and my 5,000th black American female character. The story came to me in little bursts of inspiration. For instance, I was at a conference in 2008 when author a.m. wells who in the midst of telling a hilarious story about her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend, gave me Sanjay’s, my male character’s, Southern-fried, laid back voice and personality. I will be forever grateful to her for that.
The very proper, but not exactly prim, Dr. Victoria Howell (or as Sanjay calls her, “Vic”, because it A.) annoys her and B.) rhymes with a favorite part of his body) had actually been germinating in my head for a couple of years, but she crystallized one day on a trip to the doctor’s office. As I said, I had great fun writing this book as it’s a flirty little romp of a tale peppered with hilarity and smart alecky characters. Here’s the summary:
After another spectacular break-up that totally blindsides her, Dr. Victoria Howell has had it with men. She can’t trust her own judgment when it comes to the male of the species, so she’ll just put her overactive libido on hiatus. That’s her story and she’s sticking to it. The story is slightly altered, however, after a sex-filled night with former colleague and suspected corporate thief Sanjay Banerjee, the walking, breathing aphrodisiac. But it was just one night and one night is all it will ever be. And though she’s sure he didn’t steal from the company, Victoria’s going to make sure he keeps his sticky fingers out of her pants from now on.
Sigh. Victoria, with all of her over-thinking simply makes his head hurt, and Sanjay wishes she would lighten up and admit what they both know: she was meant to be his sex slave and obey his every command. Okay — joking. But they’re meant to be together, and if she would just get her head out of her ass long enough, she’d see that. Proving that he’s not a thief is minor compared to convincing Victoria. But convince her, he will. And then? Simple. Then he’ll have everything he wants.

Creating a new cover
Storyboarding ideas for the cover for the re-release of Simply Wicked – the one in which a very American female actress bedevils the heck out of the son of a Lord of the British realm. I need something new and fantastic to go along with the new scenes I’ve written and the update (more Hollywoodesque) I’ve given it. There’s more humor, more suspense, more mischief, and a bit more drama. I need the cover to convey that, not all of it, but some. Thoughts?
