“Forgiveness means I’m going to protect myself and free myself from others by not carrying with me the bitterness caused by them. This gives ultrameek Christians permission to be strong and assertive when they need to, while still having a forgiving heart. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16: 13). This is an incredible reminder for us to be aware of our surroundings, stand with confidence, and be strong in our trust in Christ. The “act like men” part doesn’t neglect over half of the world’s population. What does it mean? Be mature. It’s time to grow up. Be an adult. Stand up for yourself.”

“But let’s look at “God won’t give you more than you can handle” in a little more detail. First of all, this statement cannot be found anywhere in the Bible. Most people who say it claim it’s because they’ve heard others use it. But as far as it being something God actually said? No, it’s not in there.”
Shane Pruitt, 9 Common Lies Christians Believe: And Why God's Truth Is Infinitely Better

“Naturally, people don’t like to (and, frankly, don’t want to) forgive. We want to hold on to bitterness because we think, If I forgive the people who have hurt me, then I’m condoning their actions. I’m saying what they did is okay. But that is not true at all. God is the judge, and He will judge appropriately. Bitterness, lack of forgiveness, and grudges often harm the one holding on to them the most. However, when we forgive, we essentially say, You can’t destroy me, end me, or hinder me any longer, because my God heals. He is better than bitterness. It also shows the world that we truly understand how much God has forgiven us. It’s a hard question to ask yourself: Is this going to make me bitter, or is it going to make me better? And the answer is, “It can’t be both.”
