Jezebel

Thereis danger in these eyes,

Temptingas their lure may be.

Adarkness of deceitful lies

Castsshadows surreptitiously

Tohide behind her supple limbs,

Kissthe sunset of her lips.

Tastethe magical delight

Dancingfrom her fingertips.

Thereis little to forewarn as

Shelies stealth in her disguise.

Allher wiles come into play

Offeringherself as prize.

Gleefullyhe takes the lure,

Setsthe hook deep in his jaw.

Weakenedby his carnal urge,

Lustbecomes his fatal flaw.

Whowould know you, Jezebel?

Whowould heed your siren’s call?

Mindis strong but flesh is weak and

Eyescannot foresee the fall.

Lament

Hiswas a battle of untold proportions,

Unknown,unsung by anyone else.

Sharingthe burden was never an option,

Squaringhis shoulders so no one could tell.

Stoicand Spartan, this faceless emotion

Storedin a vault, never lending a key.

Askingno favor, giving no quarter,

Nohint of pain by the slightest degree.

Nowthat it’s over, his journey complete,

Acalm settles over his battle-scarred face

Asif to remember a time before anguish

Becamehis obsession, quickened his pace.

Wewho remain will be charged to bear witness,

Toever be mindful his memory survives.

Tastefulretelling of his brave heart story,

Gratefulreminder as he claims his prize.

Gregarious

Sheglides on air, this flittering bird,

Mereinches above the flickering footlights

Thatsparkle and sway as she swishes about

Inbutterfly fashion, charming the crowd.

Stealthis her enemy, whispers unwanted.

Bestto gain conquest of every ear.

Accentpromoted by flirtatious gestures.

Sensesof subtlety never allowed.

Friendswho adore her cling to each word.

Strangersare friends who she just hasn’t met.

Sheis the magnet, the shining example

Toofit, too humble to ever be proud.

So,hum little hummingbird. Sing to the masses.

Kissevery petal that brightens the room.

Thereis no sentinel tracking your purpose,

Noreason you shouldn’t shout out loud.

Recitation

Speakthe words in multi-tonal

Resonanceso all can plainly

Heareach beat, each syllable

Passingover knowing lips.

Wehave heard a thousand times or more,

Itmakes no difference.

Everytime is like the first,

Refreshingas the rains in Spring.

Temptedas we all might be to

Jointhe game in gleeful chant,

Wedon’t dare step on your stage.

Settlingto mouth the words.

Whenit’s over everyone

Applaudsyour grand accomplishment.

Plauditsflow as freely as

Therush of mountain waterfalls.

Yousit calmly and relaxed,

Almostembarrassed by the praise,

Thankfulthat you made it through.

Lessonlearned.

Memorymade.

Neanderthal

Take your elbows off thetable.

Pinky up when sipping tea.

Ladies first, so hold herdoor.

Magic words: thank you andplease.

Must you be so primitive?

So crude? So reactionary?

Boldly flaunting every ruleof

Etiquette to be contrary.

Can you pass the socialgraces?

Fill your host with gleefulpride?

Or will your behavior sendher

Looking for a place to hide?

Will you learn? Will youimprove?

Leap into this century

So you may present yourself

In light of gentle company.

Momentum

Gathered in a silentwarehouse,

Banking off of subtlety,

Building thrust on borrowedfeet

To stand, to walk, to jog, torun.

Sprouting wings as if to flyon

Whiffs of light angelic air,

Climbing to the jet streamwhere

Her boundless energy canride.

Now the flow cannot bequelled.

Now the air can only bend

Concentric circles one on one

To wrap around, around again.

Trapped inside this angryvortex,

Miles and miles from hearthand home,

Seeking merciful protection,

Waiting for the rage to end.

Wrangler

All you cowpokes gather round

The bangle, dangle, janglesound

Of booted spurs that clickthe ground

As Wrangler saunters intotown.

Pocket full of month-endcash,

Suited up and talking trash.

Lady-killer, unabashed,

Looming large with daringdash.

Does she see through hisdisguise?

The innocence behind thoseeyes

That beckons with hypnoticrise

To underscore the hiddenprize.

Is our Wrangler more thanplay?

Will he own the ranch somedayor

Is he simply molded clay?

Will he cling, or run away?

Shish kabob

Life is just a shish kabob,

Little this, little that.

Skewered, seasoned,marinated,

Grilled and eaten on the fly.

Finger food to tempt thetastes of

Every epicuric yen.

Flame-fired fuel on a stick

To please the palate and theeye.

Savoring the flavoring as

Drippings splatter on thecoals.

When it’s offered up to you,

You take it without askingwhy.

Tiny tidbits.

         Eat this… skip that.

Pass those on to someoneelse.

Compliment your gracious host

Before it’s time to saygoodbye.

Absentminded

I was gonna, honestly!

Sidetracked temporarily.

Wasted brain cells foolishly

Detract from what is meant tobe.

Freakish how it’s there, thennot,

Vapor vanished from the pot.

Apparitions cold and hot of

Things remembered, thingsforgot.

I’ll get to it. Write itdown,

Every adjective and noun.

Planting feet on solid groundto

Stay alert to sight andsound.

Might just need a helpfulhint,

A nudge until my mind is bent

Around the central element of

What it was, where it went.

Where’s the trick? The fingertwine?

The one sure thing to helpremind?

Hopeful that a cure I’ll findto

Remedy this absent mind.

Blather

All this foolish blathering

A constant melee of dismay,

Seeps and creeps from henceto whence,

A spicy searing sausage bite.

Tantalizing tempting tauntsto

Hypnotize, capsulize,
Mesmerize and cauterize these

Burning, bleeding bogus eyes.

When will logic realize the

Waste that walks onthunder-thighs?

That leads astray the sensesand

Explains away with alibis.

Keep your senseless blather.

Hold your restless tongue atbay.

Save it for another.

I’m not listening anyway.
