Resurrection

Mentionme on the other side.

I shall be coming soon enough

As is the fate of mortal flesh

To shed the trappings of thisworld.

You’venot truly gone away,

Just gone ahead to ease the pain

          That we had thought unbearable,

To clear the bramble from thepath.

AndI shall hold your memory,

Keep it warm inside my breast,

Hold your story to the light so

               Others may ingest your fame.

Andyou can tell all whom you meet

That I shall join you in due time.

          We will feast in jubilation

               When again our eyes embrace.

Weshall survive to meet again,

In what dimension no one knows.

          Only that the surety of

               Resurrection bodes us well.

Ostentatious

Inthe grandeur of this manor

Linedwith all its’ gilded service

Liesa subtle message of

Theprivilege I can’t recall.

Shunnedby lines of landed gentry

Iam from more sturdy stock

Whosegenerations tended fields

Forthose who dwell inside these walls.

Allthe finery to witness,

Allthat riches can provide.

Pricelesspoints of peerless crystal

Fillingout these faultless halls.

Inmy folly youth I longed to

Knowthese treasures, taste the wine,

Kissthe fair-haired maiden as

Wewaltzed at the cotillion ball.

Butalas, reality comes beckoning as if on cue

Toquell this ostentatious paradox,

Sendit to oblivion unceremoniously,

Orkeep it safely sealed inside a box.

Posturing

Armscrossed, waiting-

          Silently.

Headtilt.

          Eyebrow raised

Injust a hint of mischief.

          Folly that.

Meantto discount points of view.

Sweepacross with mandrill arms to

Bataway succinct opinion.

Nothingmatters save the words that

Finallyescape your tongue.

Youmust be decision grantor.

Youmust have the final thought.

Onlyone king rules the kingdom

Thoughusurpers vainly try.

Noone can convey your wisdom,

Feelthe pulse inside your veins.

Canyour stubborn will be met

Inwitness to such posturing?

Notorious

Voidof any social graces,

Bannedfrom all the nicest places,

Fallingoff the learning curve

Thatcommon etiquette embraces.

Notadept at tolerance,

Atbuilding trust or building fences.

Brutishforce seems more adroit

Whennecessary to convince.

Strongwinds blow to feed the flame,

Kindlingill-gotten fame.

Notorious,uproarious,

Seekingsomeone else to blame.

Burningcandles through the night.

Rightis wrong and wrong is right.

Allthat matters in the end is

Whowill win this futile fight.

Whenthe beast comes home to rest

Willhe finish second best?

Willhis pride be satisfied?

Willhis conscience stand the test?

Idiosyncrasy

Peculiaras it all may be

It’sreally quite the norm for me.

Yousay yea and I say nay

Whensimple maybe would suffice.

Wesolve it problematically

Withidiosyncrasity.

Theups, the downs, the turnarounds,

Thedogma of pure sacrifice.

Subtledifference often plays

Acharacter in our malaise,

Acomic thief, brief relief

Tomake the picture worth the price.

Karmaoften wears disguise,

Hidesbehind flirtatious eyes,

Bendingrules and acting cruel,

Deceivinghoards with its device.

Youhave nothing left to fear

Assmiles spread from ear to ear.

Trueis true and you are you to

Beyourself and not think twice.

Hooligan

Youcannot barter or disdain

Thisflesh-eating hooligan, this devil, this saint.

Disguisedas he may be in hooded robe,

Distantin shadows he strikes his prey.

Byday you may know him again and again

Ashe changes his mask to suit purpose and cause.

Butlight from above pales sinister eyes

Thatstrike like daggers impaling the heart.

Iwas the foolish one, innocent victim,

Givingin blindly for promises made.

Neverconceiving deceit in the bargain,

Neverforeseeing the price I must pay.

Woebe to you who sets caution aside

Whenthe hooligan bastard touches your sleeve.

Betterto look into fire-wielding eyes and

Toknow who your enemy is from the start.

Dilly Dally

Soeasy to let little things

Turninto vague meanderings,

Distractionsof attractions

Unconnectedto reality.

Possessedto dilly dally as

Thetime begins to tally

Toa late last minute rally

Builton inconsistency.

Focus?Not a large concern

Asseconds tick and hours turn,

Preciouslessons all but spurned

Inaddle-minded youth.

Somuch for hard persistence in

Thismuddled-up existence

Everwidening the distance

Betweenfantasy and truth.

Timekeeps moving forward,

Neverthinks to hesitate,

Willnot hold your place in line,

Willnot negotiate.

Kaleidoscope

Crankup all the colors just to

     Mesmerize my eyes as the

          Fleeting, flowing, free-fall

Sends my senses in a spin.

Simpleshapes selected, then

Reflected one by one by one

          In a multi-layered mirroring

               That doubles back again.

Turnthe tube to view the show

     Of sequined, sparkling shapes.

          Find designs of every kind

               As light sublimely bends.

Eventhough you know the show

     Is shy reality,

It’s glee to spin, then spin again,

                And easy to pretend.

Prayingfor a joyful trek,

     A grand kaleidoscope.

          Riding boldly with my eyes,

               Enjoying to the end.

Flirtatious

Itcould be as simple as

Abatted eyelash, hardly noticed.

Orperhaps as subtle as a

Head-tilt,hair-flip with a wink.

Ofttimes just the slightest gesture

Lendsits’ hint of openness,

Bodylanguage shouting loud

Beforethe mind has time to think.

Onebrief moment she is princess

Dazzlingthe haloed room,

Allyour childhood fantasies,

YourCinderella dressed in pink.

Thoughyour vows are aged with ivy

Andyour will is hinged in stone,

Shewill use her winsome wiles to

Grazeyour armor, find the chink.

Nowreality grows feet.

Washer wink designed for me?

Mustbe my imagination

Fallinghard to break the link.

Jezebel

Thereis danger in these eyes,

Temptingas their lure may be.

Adarkness of deceitful lies

Castsshadows surreptitiously

Tohide behind her supple limbs,

Kissthe sunset of her lips.

Tastethe magical delight

Dancingfrom her fingertips.

Thereis little to forewarn as

Shelies stealth in her disguise.

Allher wiles come into play

Offeringherself as prize.

Gleefullyhe takes the lure,

Setsthe hook deep in his jaw.

Weakenedby his carnal urge,

Lustbecomes his fatal flaw.

Whowould know you, Jezebel?

Whowould heed your siren’s call?

Mindis strong but flesh is weak and

Eyescannot foresee the fall.
