More New Things at the Creation Museum!
We have additional reasons to bring young people to the Creation Museum this month, especially as schools start. No doubt you want to help children and teens start the academic year on a good footing.
The museum is already family friendly, and this month it's even more so.
First, we have special sessions for young people called "Back to School Survival Days." A part of this outreach is for young people to hear Buddy Davis and me give faith-building talks inside our new Legacy Hall. We want to equip children and teens to know how to defend the Christian faith amidst the evolutionary teaching they will probably receive at school and in the media (as well as most science museums they may visit). For information on these "back-to-school" pep talks (for ages elementary through college), see the post on our Creation Museum blog.
Second, along the wall of our Special Effects Theater at the museum we have unveiled our newest high-tech exhibit. In this photo, you can see me interviewing Dr. David Menton at our dedication ceremony. He is featured in a new "laser exhibit" on the science of "homology." It shows the major differences between humans and apes (and other creatures), using skeletons.
It has been amusing to walk past the exhibit as young people stare at Dr. Menton on a computer monitor and are perplexed as to how the laser beams seem to jump from Dr. Menton's laser pointer to the skeletons below. Dr. Menton "magically" points to specific parts of the skeletons in the display.
As you know, evolutionists often like to trumpet their belief that humans and chimps are very closely related. Dr. Menton, who taught anatomy at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis for a few decades, worked with our talented design team to come up with a highly visual display that would help undermine the evolutionary teaching of the relatedness of humans and chimps.
We hope you'll come by soon and look for this display and see this new kind of "laser show"—with technology created specially for our museum. Even children will be fascinated by it.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken

Seminary Professor Demonstrates Her Fallible Research in Attacking God's Word
I am continually amazed at the poor research skills seen in many academics who rail against the Creation Museum. In the latest of attacks on those who believe in a literal Adam and Eve and a literal Genesis (as does Jesus according to Matthew 19 and as we find in 1 Corinthians 15, Romans 5, Ephesians 5, and many other passages), theology professor Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite of Chicago Theological Seminary wrote an article for The Washington Post entitled, "The theological case for evolution."
At the outset, let me make just a few comments on this commentary.
1. The title claims that the piece presents the "theological case for evolution." That's interesting; not one passage of the Bible is quoted in the entire article. Where is the theology? Remarkable! How does that makes a convincing theological case? Railing against those who believe the Bible's account in Genesis and then quoting a fallible scientist is not enough to convince people not to believe Genesis.
How about the following Scriptures?
A. Jesus quoted from Genesis: "And He answered and said to them, 'Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"?'" (Matthew 19:4–5).
B. "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it" (Exodus 20:11).
C. "And so it is written, 'The first man Adam became a living being.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit" (1 Corinthians 15:45).
"Threfore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12).
These are just a few of the many references to and quotes from Genesis throughout the Scripture clearly illustrating that Jesus, who is the Word, teaches us that Genesis is to be taken as literal history.
2. The theology professor states in the article, "I have visited the Creation Museum. The brochure explains that 'Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden's rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil . . . Enter the Cave of Sorrows and see the horrific effects of the Fall.' As I entered the first exhibit and looked at the animatronic Garden of Eden, I wondered who these children could be, since the Bible does not say that Adam and Eve had children in the Garden of Eden. Of course, the Bible also does not mention dinosaurs roaming the Garden of Eden. So what's going on?"
My comments are as follows:
A. Actually, the brochure doesn't say that children are in the Garden of Eden. The animatronic children are not in the Garden of Eden exhibit; they are in the Main Hall at the waterfall. This is not a teaching exhibit as such, but is intended to introduce the idea that people and the creatures we today called dinosaurs lived at the same time. The water feature could be illustrating one of the rivers that flowed from Eden. Children were not born until after the Fall of man. Clothing (worn by the animatronic children) wasn't given until after the Fall. God killed an animal—the first blood sacrifice as a picture of what was to come in Christ—and He clothed Adam and Eve. They were then driven from the Garden. So the children in the Main Hall are meant to illustrate a post-Fall situation after Adam and Eve had left the Garden.
B. Of course the "Bible does not mention dinosaurs roaming the Garden of Eden" because the word "dinosaur" was not invented until 1841 by Sir Richard Owen. The Bible doesn't name the specific families of land animals God made; it mentions particular groupings (beasts of the earth, creeping things, etc.). All the land animals were made on day six. Since dinosaurs were land animals, they would have been made on day six alongside Adam and Eve.
3. The author stated, "So, what do you think? Is God infinite or not? And if God is infinite, there's nothing in science but a method for documenting how the enormous dynamism of this creation is happening all the time." And I would answer that of course I believe in an infinite God. And because He is infinite (as the Bible makes clear), He can provide for us an infallible Word—a revelation with no mistakes so we can understand the true history of the universe and our need for salvation.
4. She also claims the Creation Museum has "extreme views" because we stand on a literal Genesis: "Creationism means the belief in a literal creation by God of everything in this world exactly as it is today. The most extreme of these views is the 'young earth' movement represented by the Creation Museum—the earth, indeed the whole universe, they believe, is only 6,000 years old—a biblically derived number."
A. Again, she has totally misrepresented the position we take at the Creation Museum and Answers in Genesis. She claims we believe "in a literal creation by God of everything in this world exactly as it is today." This is simply not true. We most definitely do not believe God created the world "exactly as it is today." Just a cursory reading of a few articles on our website would show this to be false. In fact, just a quick walk through the Creation Museum would show the falsity of this ridiculous claim.
Man's sin has affected the world. The Flood of Noah's time affected the whole earth. All the land animal kinds were represented on Noah's Ark and then came out of the Ark and formed many different species after the Flood. The Tower of Babel resulted in humans having different languages and thus the formation of distinct cultures and people groups. The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8 that the whole world groans now because of sin!
Either this seminary professor is making a false claim to deliberately mislead, or she has never really researched what those who take God at His Word believe and teach. She needs to read some good commentaries like those of John Gill, John Calvin, and others on this topic. I have found that people who make this false claim that we supposedly believe that God created "everything in this world exactly as it is today" do so in an attempt to claim we deny the observable facts.
Usually I find such people think that natural selection and speciation is evolution. And because we do not believe in molecules-to-man evolution, they therefore wrongly think we don't believe in natural selection or speciation. Actually, we have many articles on our website covering such topics. Natural selection and speciation, when properly understood, illustrate evidence against molecules-to-man evolution! Such changes occur within a created kind because of the immense genetic variability God built into each created Kind.
Taking Genesis as literal history is not an extreme view at all. We at Answers in Genesis take God's Word in Genesis the way it is meant to be taken (as literal history) and the same way that the writers do in the rest of Scripture. It is also the way the vast majority of Christians took Genesis for the first 1800 years of church history and the way a growing number of Christians around the world take it today. On the basis of her statement, she would have to say that Jesus, the apostles, and the majority of Christians since their day have had "extreme views" on Genesis!
5. The last paragraph of this article seems to be a theme in the article itself: "Worry about something that really matters, like the fact that if the Environmental Protection Agency is destroyed your children won't be able to breathe in a few years." No, I worry that people like this seminary professor will keep instructing generations of seminarians to trust man's fallible ideas—to put one's trust in man's anti-God religion of evolution—and that she will drive them away from a true understanding of their sin nature and their desperate need of salvation.
Also, God is the one who is going to put an end to the pollution on this earth (the pollution from sin is, of course, the worst pollution of all). God is going to judge this earth with fire and make a "new heavens and new earth in which righteousness dwells" (2 Peter 3:13).
We are certainly seeing an upsurge in attacks on God's Word from academics in seminaries and Christian colleges, and in theology blogs, etc. Of course, this just burdens me to be even more active in countering these enemies of God's Word!
You can read this seminary professor's sad, Scripture-less article (that exalts fallible man's reasoning) at The Washington Post.

Nazarene Churches—What Is Really Happening?
Over the past couple of years, I have brought to people's attention the rampant compromise with evolution and billions of years that many professors at Nazarene colleges hold to—and teach their students. One of those compromised professors is Dr. Karl Giberson.
Recently, Answers in Genesis produced the book Already Compromised. This book detailed research conducted by America's Research Group sadly showing the compromise with evolution and billions of years that exists in the majority of Christian colleges. Another way to find out what is being taught in these schools is to talk to the students who are attending or have graduated from them. I have heard many "horror stories" from such people over the years in regard to the damage done to hearts and minds because of the compromise.
This week, I received an email from a person who graduated from a Nazarene college and attests to what is going on at the college where Karl Giberson is a professor. Here is what this person wrote.
I really felt the need to say thank you to Ken and the rest of the team who have been ardently working to bring light to the situation within Christian colleges.
I graduated from Eastern Nazarene College [in Massachusetts] and actually sat under Karl Giberson for two classes, one that was required. Everything that you have proclaimed about him is accurate, and I appreciate the fact that you are trying to spread the word. He has lead many Christians astray with his teachings. He has also misquoted Charles Ryrie in a book he (Giberson) wrote to make it sound as though Ryrie was a theistic evolutionist. Thankfully, God had provided the necessary material I needed and I actually owned the book from which he misquoted Ryrie and could see for myself what Ryrie actually stated. I believe that he was among several at ENC who heavily influenced a close relative who is now straying from her faith.
Sadly, ENC has made a commitment to no longer hire creationist professors for the science department. I'm not sure if this is widely known, as it was learned through a conversation held between a student and professor from that department.
You are right: Christian schools, churches, and families are woefully unaware of the stand that colleges are taking against creationism. Thank you for spreading the word!

No wonder the Church in the UK Is in Trouble
Christianity magazine in the United Kingdom (UK) recently published an article by a Baptist pastor from Cambridge in England. I just groan when I read such articles. Just the first paragraph alone illustrates how compromised and ill informed many such pastors are about biblical topics. No wonder generations of young people have left the church. Look at the state of the church in the UK today—what a mess. Look at the state of the nation—generations of godless young people in the UK now acting in accord with their godless foundations for their worldview. And the church pumps out stuff like this compromised thinking below! What a mess! Consider the following paragraph:
Cambridge, where I live, is very flat. People joke that Hills Road, a main thoroughfare, is named after its two humpback railway bridges. Most of the surrounding countryside is reclaimed marshes, so I can easily imagine a flood covering everything as far as the eye can see. But the idea of Noah's flood covering the whole earth and all its mountains is much more difficult to envisage. How can six million land species be rescued in one boat? Or, if only a few thousand species were rescued, how have others evolved so fast since then? How did river and sea life survive in mixed salt and fresh water? How did land plants survive under water for a year? It wasn't just seeds that survived because the dove found a full-grown olive tree! The account seems to pose some embarrassing questions.
Here are my thoughts.
He obviously rejects the global Flood of Noah's day (and later on in the article he makes it clear he believes in a local flood instead).
He assumes that the mountains today were the same as those before the Flood.
He talks about species on Noah's Ark (though he calls it a "boat") instead of kinds as the Bible makes clear.
He implies there are no answers for understanding how salt water and fresh water creatures survived together during the Flood.
When he uses the word "evolved," he is referring to what is really speciation, which is easily explained by creationists and is the opposite of evolution.
Now, answers to all of the above have been available for years on the Answers in Genesis website—and many of these answers have been available for 50 years in the famous book The Genesis Flood (we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of this book later this year). But I suspect that this pastor has probably seen some of these answers. I also suspect (based on experience) that because such pastors usually have capitulated to the secular ideas of evolution and millions of years, that no matter what answers we gave, they would probably be rejected.
Here are just a few links to answers on the AiG website:

I Could Believe the Bible
We live in an age when many people in the younger generations have been indoctrinated to believe the Bible is not authoritative and just a fallible book of myths. God has raised up ministries like Answers in Genesis to challenge people concerning the authority of God's Word—that it is the infallible Word of the Creator God. As a result, we have seen many testimonies like this one below that we received recently:
I'd like to thank you for such a ministry like yours that stands up so boldly for the bible and Christ in this age that we live in, second it was because of your ministry that I could believe the bible. I've been to the museum well over 50 times . . . but just wanted to say thank you and the folks at AIG and the museum for taking such a stand for the people like me who have understanding of the times and want the truth to defend what they believe and why. I've been praying one day the Lord allows me the opportunity to start my own creation ministry but for now I've been using the museum for co workers and friends who are unsaved. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Testimonies like this are what keep me going amidst the stress and the many varied attacks we receive.

In the News Again
Since the announcement in December last year about our intent to build the "Ark Encounter" park, many news items have appeared in varied sources around the world. This past week, an Associated Press article (that was a rather well-written and balanced article) was taken up by a number of news sources—including Fox News, CBS News.com, and Forbes.com. AiG's librarian has updated a site where we make record of the Ark Encounter news items. I thought you would be interested in going to this site not only to look at all the news items since December, but to see some of the latest listings that published the AP article.

The Best Birthday Present of All
AiG was able to help a 13-year-old home schooler to be able to come to AiG's recent Apologetics Mega Conference. After the conference, her mother wrote the following email to one of our staff:
Dear Dan, I'm sure by now you have moved on to a host of other duties with the AIG ministry. However, the impression you left on my daughter Makenna and me will last indefinitely.
Thank you for making the conference possible. I'm not certain what God is doing with an almost-13-year-old who loves His word, is passionate about learning the foundations for her faith, and who wants to go into nursing . . . but I smile just thinking of the possibilities.
I'm attaching Makenna's essay about her time at the conference. She has become a big fan of Jason Lisle and Steve Ham and loved her tour with with Dr. Menton. (Our entire family has been longtime fans of Ken.) She is just certain that she wants to work at the Creation Museum as a summer job one day. She's also certain that God will provide for her to attend next summer's conference. I'm wondering if she would be old enough to volunteer for you at that time? We'll have to keep in touch about that!
Please forward her essay on to as many of the speakers as you can. I want them to be encouraged at how God used them in the life of this young girl. I also want them to log this moment, as I expect to report back to all of you in about 6-8 years on just what God has done with the seeds your ministry has planted!
Thank you again. I hope we have returned back to you a small measure of the blessing you were the vessel for in our lives. Under His Grace!
Christi
P.S. She is currently completing the Apologetics 111 online course and will enroll in the Astronomy and Geology courses next Spring. To round out her science curriculum this year, she received Dr. Menton's DVD set as part of her birthday present and had already begged to study the new curriculum that AIG is carrying called "Evolution: The Grand Experiment" (by Werner). I mention all of these, because I would love for her to write "reviews" about them from the perspective of a young student, if there is anyone in the ministry who thinks that using her experience might encourage other families to work more of the AIG materials into their schooling plans. Please don't hesitate to ask if we might be used now or in the future.
After reading Makenna's essay, I wanted to share it with all of you—so here it is with photographs she included:
I have met many "Makennas" as I travel around the country and also walk through our Creation Museum. It is encouraging to see that God is raising up godly young people to stand for His Word in this very troubled age.

Genesis Is What?
According to David Lose, the director of the Center for Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary (I understand its graduates include one-third of pastors in the denomination the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), the book of Genesis is described the following way: "It's a story about the insecurity that is endemic to humanity and the ever-present temptation to refuse the identity that comes from the vulnerability of authentic relationship in favor of defining ourselves over and against each other."
So what does that mean? I guess if you make something sound complicated, you sound impressively "academic" in this world!
No wonder the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) is so theologically liberal as a whole! Here is a person who is in teaching authority in a seminary, indoctrinating future "shepherds" for churches not to believe God's Word in Genesis. So sad.
Actually, God sums the above up in Scripture, which states, "Professing to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:22).
If you want to waste a few minutes of your life that you will never get back, then here is the link to the whole article.
Praise the Lord that not all Lutherans are this liberal! For instance, AiG is conducting a conference in Niagara Falls, New York, sponsored by Lutherans from the Lutheran denomination called the Missouri Synod. In fact, I have spoken at their Lutheran conferences and even in some of their churches. Praise the Lord there are Lutherans who stand on God's Word beginning in Genesis. For instance, our own Dr. David Menton, who will be speaking with me at the Niagara Falls conference, attends a Lutheran church (one that does stand for the authority of God's Word).
For details about the Niagara Falls conference, go to the event page.
I love the title of this conference, "Let there be light." There needs to be some "light" in Luther Seminary and the ELCA denomination! But as I have said before, this sort of compromise (as we see above) also exists in Baptist, Presbyterian, and other denominations.
What a Joy
Now here is what can happen when you do take a stand on the Word of God beginning in Genesis. We received the following email last week:
I visited the Creation Museum for the 3rd time a couple of weeks ago. This trip was truly special. I flew with my 5 year old granddaughter . . . We had donated to the museum in her honor when she was just a baby. It was a true joy to her to find her name on the wall. Also, I had prayed that not only would we have a great time but that [she] would profit spiritually. I feel God blessed me with both. A couple of days ago she said, "Grammy, did you know Jesus stepped into history and became our ark of salvation?"
She has grown up on Buddy Davis [AiG musician] songs, and after seeing so many animatronic figures at the museum, she wanted to know if Buddy Davis was "really real".
I thank you all for your stand on the authority of the Scripture and its reliability from Genesis verse 1. I know your resources, lectures, etc have made a difference in my life, but oh what a joy to see my granddaughter learn correct Biblical perspective from birth.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken

Join Us at the Niagara Falls in September!
Answers in Genesis has the tremendous opportunity this September of partnering with the "Let There Be Light" group, comprised of several members of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Eastern District. They are a group committed to upholding God's Word in an ever-growing secular culture. Come hear David Menton and me as we bring the foundational truths of God's word to Niagara Falls, NY, and the surrounding areas. This conference will be held at the Conference Center, Niagara Falls, on September 17.
The conference will be within walking distance of the beautiful Niagara Falls, so if you live in the eastern part of the USA, plan on coming a couple days early and spending time enjoying God's creation—followed by solid biblical teaching from Answers in Genesis speakers. Please register at www.itickets.com for conference tickets. Ticket prices for individuals are $12 for adults and $7 for children (3–11). Ages 2 and under are free if they will be sitting on their parents lap (i.e., they don't need a seat). The Author Who Got It Almost All Wrong
A new book was recently published—entitled Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden and authored by Brook Wilensky-Lanford.
I read a couple of reviews of this book, and we purchased a copy for our AiG library. The author certainly makes known her disdain for those of us who take God's Word in Genesis as literal history. As I read many of the statements she made about those who adhere to a six-literal-day creation as the Bible clearly teaches, I thought I was reading one of the typical atheist-type blogs—with all their usual distortions, misinformation, and so on. And there were the usual type of misrepresentations made by our opponents of what is taught through the Creation Museum.
Now, I don't know if the author is an atheist. But if I were to write a critque of just what is written about the Creation Museum and biblical creationists in this book, I would end up writing a significant book myself.
I thought I would select just a small section of this book to show how inaccurate the author's research is. This section is so bad, as anyone who has ever visited the Creation Museum will be able to detect, that it makes you realize you shouldn't trust anything else she says in this book.
I have pasted in statements from chapter 11 in the book, and then put my comments in.
As I drove past the Cincinnati airport into the mountains of northern Kentucky in the fall of 2008, there wasn't much to break the rural scenery, only a few abandoned factory smokestacks and blown-out ghost towns. The museum itself was completely hidden behind a jagged mountain peak, but along the highway, its colorful roadside signage–"Prepare to Believe!"–stood out. (Brook Wilensky-Lanford, Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden [New York, NY: Grove Press, 2011], p. 203.)
Comments:
I know of no mountains in northern Kentucky—certainly gentle rolling hills—but where are the mountains?
There are no abandoned factory smokestacks near the museum. There are smokestacks visible on the way to the museum, but at an impressive working power station across the river in Indiana.
"Blown-out ghost towns"? I know of no such towns anywhere near the Creation Museum; we are in the greater Cincinnati area, which is well developed.
"The museum itself was completely hidden behind a jagged mountain peak . . . ." There is no such "jagged mountain peak" here or anywhere nearby! Furthermore, the Creation Museum is clearly visible from the Interstate. This is just ridiculous.
". . . along the highway, its colorful roadside signage–"Prepare to Believe!"–stood out." But the only signage along the highway are the typical brown signs authorized and produced by the State. The signs only state, "Creation Museum, Exit 11." The first time you see the "Prepare to Believe" sign is on the front gate of the museum itself.
Well, hardly anything in those two sentences in the book is remotely accurate or true. One wonders whether she was just wanting to insult Kentucky (as well as the Creation Museum)—so maybe she just made up the information to slam the area anyway!
Dinosaurs, the museum stated, had existed, and had died out only a few thousand years ago. Therefore, if the Earth was 6,000 years old, humans and dinosaurs must have coexisted. Every exhibit in the Creation Museum set out to reinforce this idea: in the lobby, a tiny model caveman child stood giggling next to a tiny velociraptor, a benevolent prehistoric pet. (Brook Wilensky-Lanford, Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden [New York, NY: Grove Press, 2011], p. 203.)
Comments:
". . . if the Earth was 6,000 years old, humans and dinosaurs must have coexisted. Every exhibit in the Creation Museum set out to reinforce this idea." Now, there are exhibits that reinforce this, but certainly not "every" exhibit deals with this. Lots of different information is presented in many varied exhibits throughout the Creation Museum.
". . . a tiny model caveman child stood giggling next to a tiny velociraptor . . . ." Actually, the two animatronic children at the Main Hall's waterfall are life-size, and the two animatronic velocirpators are also life size.
The Creation Museum posited that dinosaurs did make it onto Noah's Ark, and were saved. Later, they turned against each other and most were killed, except a few surviving stragglers, which we know as dragons. (Yes, dragons are real. How else could Saint George slay them?) (Brook Wilensky-Lanford, Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden [New York, NY: Grove Press, 2011], p. 204.)
Comments:
Nowhere do we teach that the main reason dinosaurs died out was that "they turned against each other and most were killed." In fact, there are many possible reasons as to why dinosaurs have died out.
To say that the stragglers that didn't kill each other and then were the "dragons" is to totally misrepresent what is stated about dragons in the museum. The point is the word "dinosaur"' was not even invented until 1841. So how could we say that dinosaurs turned on each other and then the "surviving stragglers" were the dragons? We suggest that some of the dragon legends could be people's descriptions of animals that we today refer to as dinosaurs.
When I finally arrived at the museums' Garden of Eden, I thought I'd figure that out . . . . Pushing through thick plastic curtains, I left the main exhibit hall and went into a steamy, climate-controlled garden. It was easy to think I had actually been transported to a tropical paradise. The teeming plant and animal life seemed to come right up against the guardrails and overwhelm the walking path. (Brook Wilensky-Lanford, Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden [New York, NY: Grove Press, 2011], p. 213.)
Comments:
We know of nowhere in the Creation Museum where one has to (or has ever had to) push "through thick plastic curtains." These just don't exist.
To say that the Garden of Eden area in the Creation Museum is a "steamy, climate-controlled garden" is just outlandish. The whole Creation Museum and offices are air-conditioned like any other building. We don't have such a "steamy, climate-controlled garden"—this just doesn't exist (and never has existed at the museum).
"The teeming plant and animal life seemed to come right up against the guardrails and overwhelm the walking the path." There are no guardrails in this part of the museum and none of the plants (which are all artificial in this walk-through) overflow on to the walking path.
Well, I've just commented on a few sentences! Did the author really come to the Creation Museum? Or did she just make this stuff up? Or did she deliberately distort her text just to be more colorful in her writing to help her polemic against the biblical creation position.
If the author really wants to search for information about the location of the Garden of Eden (the premise of her book), she needs to first of all learn how to accurately conduct sound research. I can't imagine how bad the rest of the book must be!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
