The Atheists’ Real Motive
Recently, articles such as this one from the Christian Post have reported that a challenge was made in Florida regarding a Ten Commandments monument outside a local courthouse. Well, the Christian organization that put up the monument, with the permission of the court, refused to remove it. So a local atheist organization has been allowed to put up a monument of its own in the same area.
Now, the atheist group’s monument will include a number of quotations regarding religion from people such as American Atheists founder Madalyn Murray O’Hair. The Christian Post article reported that the atheist monument will also include responses to the Ten Commandments:
It also includes a 10-point list that parallels the Ten Commandments monument, specifying the Biblical punishment prescribed for violating each commandment, with Biblical citations. Several of the punishments are simply execution.
If the above quote is correct, then it is an attack on God’s Word by this attempt to discredit the Bible. What’s more, it shows atheists don’t understand the Bible and the Law. I would encourage you to read Bodie Hodge’s (AiG–U.S.) article, “Why Don’t Christians Follow All the Old Testament Laws?” and Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell’s article, “Doesn’t the Bible Condone the Killing of One’s Rebellious Child?”
I want to suggest that the real motive of these atheists is to attack Christianity and to impose their religion of atheism. If an atheist is going to put up a monument, it really should say something that reflects their worldview, such as:
Do whatever you want to do, because you’re just an evolved animal. You are your own god. Life is meaningless; when you die you won’t know you ever existed. Become an atheist and live a meaningless life, and then die and never know you were ever alive!
You know—this is really the message of much of the public education system today where students are taught as fact that life (and the universe) evolved by natural processes (naturalism is atheism). It’s no wonder kids turn to drugs, sex, suicide, and so on.
The message of Christianity is so different from the hopelessness atheism promotes. God’s Word teaches that man has—was created with—purpose. The life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ has made possible the free gift of eternal life with God for those who receive it, by faith alone, in Christ alone:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9)
Note that it is mainly the atheists who lodge lawsuits about the Ten Commandments, crosses, and nativity scenes in public places or the Bible in public schools. Why? It’s because they want their religion of atheism imposed on the culture—they want their anti-God religion forced on us.
Christians, we need to wake up and understand that when such God-honoring items are removed, then the atheist religion has been imposed yet again. There is no neutrality when it comes to Jesus Christ—either you’re for Him or you’re against Him (Matthew 12:30). When the Bible, prayer, and creation were by and large thrown out of public schools, they didn’t throw religion out—they really threw Christianity out and replaced this with the religion of naturalism, which is atheism. Eliminating Christianity does not produce a neutral result, but an anti-God one! I urge you to stand boldly on the authority of God’s Word in the face of such attacks from unbelievers, and to share the good news of the gospel of Christ with them.

Buddy Davis Has Two Top 50 Hits!
Buddy Davis, one of the Creation Museum’s dinosaur sculptors, as well as a speaker and musician, currently has two songs on the Top 50 chart right now! This is great news, and I want to congratulate Buddy on such an achievement.
Now, Buddy often leads children’s programs at our conferences and the Creation Museum, writing and playing original songs that the whole family can enjoy and sing along to. He has a passion for teaching the message of God’s Word through song. See the Creation Museum website for a schedule of Buddy’s concerts.
Buddy has also sculpted dinosaurs for the Creation Museum’s Dino Den, a two-story dinosaur exhibit. Recently, the Dino Den was expanded to include Buddy’s newest sculpture of a Kentrosaurus.
Many of Buddy’s songs are based on the talks we give at conferences and at the Creation Museum, as well as on my sayings that are meant to help children easily remember the facts of the biblical creation account. By listening to Buddy’s CDs, children can learn the message of Answers in Genesis through song.
One of the songs, “King of Kings,” is available on Buddy’s album I Am Not Ashamed. You can listen to a sample of “King of Kings” and order the album through our online store.
The other song, “Mammoth Cave,” is available on the DVD Extreme Caving, the newest addition to the Buddy Davis’ Amazing Adventures series! To listen to a sample clip of “Mammoth Cave” and to preorder Extreme Caving, visit the product page.
Buddy has many other CDs available, one specifically meant for children called Creation Musical Adventures. It’s hard to find family entertainment that’s firmly rooted in God’s Word and exciting for parents and children alike. I urge you to take advantage of these great resources today!

Suffer Little Children
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14)
Over the past few weeks, I have spoken to thousands of parents at various homeschool conventions. I have also spoken to hundreds and hundreds of their kids as well.
How I praise the Lord for the opportunities he gives us to help equip parents and to teach children the truth of God’s Word—particularly in such a culture that grows increasingly intolerant of biblical Christianity.
I love what John Gill states about Matthew 19:14 concerning children:
It is as if our Lord should say, do not drive away these children from my person and presence; they are lively emblems of the proper subjects of a Gospel church state, and of such that shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: by these I may instruct and point out to you, what converted persons should be, who have a place in my church below, and expect to enter into my kingdom and glory above; that they are, or ought to be, like such children, harmless and inoffensive; free from rancour and malice, meek, modest, and humble; without pride, self-conceit, and ambitious views, and desires of grandeur and superiority.
It was a thrill to be at the baptism of one of our young grandchildren recently and to hear her testimony about trusting Christ. Oh that unbelieving adults would listen to the heart of this child and trust the Lord as she does.
At many of the homeschool conventions where I speak, I also do one presentation especially for kids titled “Dinosaurs, Genesis, and the Gospel.” The rooms are usually packed with kids and their parents as we all learn the truths of God’s Word together. What a joy to see and meet so many young children who just love to hear about God’s Word—and they love to hear about science and all the exciting topics like dinosaurs, Noah’s Flood, etc. We need to teach as many of these children as we can because the secular world is out to capture their hearts and mind for the devil.
I have included some photographs taken at the Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Convention this past Thursday through Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska.
Here is a photograph of the special session for kids:
Here are photographs of just a few of the excited kids I spoke to after the session:
Here are two photographs of the audience for my keynote session:
As usual, people load up on the AiG apologetics resources:
After each of my sessions, there was a long line of parents and kids wanting to talk to me. Many gave me testimonies of how the Lord used the AiG ministry to greatly impact their lives.
This coming weekend I will be speaking at the Christian Home Educators Convention in Anaheim, California.

Canadians at the “Disney-Quality” Creation Museum
Here is a Creation Museum testimony from a Canadian man who reported on a trip that his church recently took to the museum. Frankly, I have been surprised that so many Canadians have visited the museum. When I speak inside the Creation Museum and ask for a show of hands from people who are visiting from outside the USA, I almost always get at least one family who will put up their hands and indicate they are from Canada. When you think about it, that shouldn’t be too surprising, for the Creation Museum is about a four-and-a-half-hour drive from the Canadian border (near the border crossing in Detroit, Michigan). Several million Canadians live within a day’s drive of our museum.
Here is what the group from Ontario, Canada, recently experienced at the Creation Museum, as it was shared with one of our museum staff members:
Our church was abuzz yesterday from the people who went on the trip to the Creation Museum! Everyone I spoke with was thoroughly impressed! One person I spoke with said it was far more than he expected. He told me that he expected it to be a commercial-type building with a few (for lack of a better word) “tacky” displays. He said as soon as they approached the museum, he knew he was in for a treat.
After viewing the inside, he told me that the quality was on the same level as Disney. Another lady told me that the Flood display really hit home to her—and her whole family—how devastating, geologically, the Flood really was. Her son was all excited about the quality of the displays. They both thought the cutaway of the Ark was neat. In other brief conversations, the responses were simply, “Wow!” and “was THAT ever good.”
The group showed up at the Creation Museum early on Saturday morning. (The bus arrived on Friday afternoon and they stayed at a hotel Friday evening.) The museum staff ran the “Men in White” show early for them so that they could move to the planetarium show at 9 am. This gained time for the group so they could still see everything [in a day] and leave at a good time.
Anyway, thank your staff for a first-rate experience.
We pray that God will use this experience to really challenge the people to share their experience and to dig deeper.
Blessings,
A.B., Ontario, Canada
When we first started AiG about nineteen years ago, we decided to be located near the major population centers of the USA. We learned that almost two-thirds of Americans lived within a day’s drive of the Cincinnati and northern Kentucky area (within 650 miles), and then we were later pleased to learn that millions of Canadians also lived within a day’s drive.

Calling Out the Denial of Biblical Authority
Should Christians confront “scientific illiteracy”? Well, that all depends on what is meant by “science,” but according to Charles J. Reid, Jr., a professing Roman Catholic and a professor of law at the University of St. Thomas (a Roman Catholic university), Christians should “call out” fellow believers who do not hold to evolution and millions of years.
In a Huffington Post article titled “Christians Must Confront Scientific Illiteracy,” Reid takes a swipe at biblical creationists, particularly the ministry of the Creation Museum and Answers in Genesis. He writes that Christians don’t need to worry so much about persecution as they do about a lack of belief in evolution:
For the greatest danger Christianity confronts at the present moment is not incipient persecution, but increasing marginalization and irrelevance. If Christians cannot engage reasonably and responsibly with science, there will be no place for them in the public life of advanced societies.
But Reid is mistaken—Christians absolutely do engage with science. In fact, the Christians at AiG love science, as I’ve written before on my blog. Reid is confusing operational (or observational) and historical (or origins) science.
Now, I’ve talked about this problem of confusing the types of sciences many times on my blog before, especially in reference to the fact that biblical creationists can perform good operational science. Operational science is the kind of science that leads to advances in technology, medicine, and so on. Good operational science can be performed without holding a belief in evolutionary ideas. We have a number of PhD-level scientists on staff at Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum who are all biblical creationists. They would all say that evolution has nothing to do with operational science—in fact, evolutionary bias hinders such science!
Actually, Reid recently wrote another article where he revealed that he is in favor of same-sex marriage (after having been opposed to it for some time), saying that “History . . . can serve as our steady and certain teacher,” and that same-sex marriage is all about love. The Word of God was clearly not his authority in that piece, and it doesn’t seem to be when it comes to origins either.
After describing biblical creation, Reid writes very negatively about Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum:
It is easy to dismiss this stuff, but there is real danger in treating it lightly. In the secular imagination, this fantasy view of the world is fast becoming the public face of Christianity. Certainly, Ken Ham is a respected figure in his own community. He recently received an honorary degree from Liberty University. His website promotes a mix of pseudo-science and survivalism. . . . Christians have not always been such enemies of science.
Christians are not enemies of science now—but we are enemies of ideas that conflict with the clear Word of God. Specifically, biblical creationists are enemies of ideas that conflict with the Genesis account of creation. However, a belief in creation doesn’t hinder a Christian from being a scientist.
Furthermore, it’s sad that Reid would resort to accusing AiG and the Creation Museum of teaching “pseudo-science” and “survivalism,” simply because we show people how the evidence found in the world only makes sense from the biblical perspective. When the Bible is the foundation of one’s belief system, being a scientist becomes easier because the starting point is consistent and correct.
Many people in this world will try to lift up man’s word over God’s, such as Reid has done by making history his guide, but as believers we can trust the Bible for the answers to life’s questions. And we don’t need to “call out” fellow believers who hold to the literal truth of God’s Word—no, we should lovingly expose error among Christian leaders and academics in the hope that they will change their minds and take God at His Word as they should.
And really, the gospel is at the heart of this issue. The first eleven chapters of Genesis are the foundation for the rest of God’s Word—for all doctrines and the gospel. So when we choose to make anything other than God’s Word our absolute authority in life—such as Reid has done with history and evolutionary ideas—we undermine the foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I sincerely urge you to pray for Reid and others like him, that they would trust God’s Word as their ultimate authority, from the very first verse.

More Media Coverage of the Museum
The Creation Museum has been open now for six years (incredible to believe), and one thing that continues to surprise me is the number of media representatives who continue to drop by. Recently, it was an international reporter with the Reuters news agency. Of course, managers and staff from Christian radio stations across America visit us regularly.
Verne Hill of radio station WBFJ in North Carolina recently came by with his family, and also members of his local HOPE homeschool group. The group spent two days here at the museum (many of our visitors are thanking us for the opportunity to stay a second consecutive day at no extra cost) because there is so much to see and do, as Verne shares below. Here is his testimonial:
Dear AiG:
We totally enjoyed our two days at the Creation Museum. Our visit was a time of learning, reflection, and worship. Please send a BIG “Thank You” to everyone working and volunteering at the Museum. Their smiles and joy were infectious.
We loved the museum’s Christ-centered focus, while scripturally explaining Genesis. There is definitely something for everyone: the journey through the museum, lectures, planetarium, the gardens, and petting zoo.
Also, thanks for keeping prices affordable for the family!
Continued blessings as you expand and share Genesis — and the Good News — to the world.
– Verne Hill, WBFJ radio/HOPE homeschool group, N. Carolina
I hope this encourages you to visit the Creation Museum this summer, especially with so many new additions:
Dragon Legends exhibit, with stunning new displays and large Chinese-style dragons
the high-tech “Dr. Crawley’s Insectorium”—with one of the best insect collections in the world
more than 20 new additions to the “Verbum Domini” rare Bible exhibit (even an Elvis Presley personal Bible!)
in mid-June, 20 long and high zip-lines are coming on the property

Houston Atheists’ Unprofessional Debate Challenge
This week I received an email from the Houston Atheists Association, challenging me to a debate while I’m at the Texas Homeschool Coalition Convention, August 1–3. Now, Mark Looy, CCO at Answers in Genesis and my longtime friend, has helped organize several debates over the last 25 years. He has never seen as nasty an invitation as this one.
The invitation was incredibly unprofessional; the association didn’t even include a contact name or the name of the person who sent it. In contrast, these types of invitations are typically much more formal—and polite.
To give you some examples of what the Houston Atheists Association said in their invitation, I’ve included some quotes below:
Please let it be known that while we respect your freedom to express your religious views, we also vehemently oppose the indoctrination of children with radical fundamentalist theology under the false guise of “science”, and your claimed beliefs—that the universe is less than 7,000 years old and that non-avian dinosaurs co-existed with humanity—certainly qualify as such.
To “teach” students with your message is to lie to them.
That may serve your religion, but it does not serve children who will grow up trying to live and work in contemporary, science-based societies.
Wow! They begin by accusing me of indoctrination, lying, and depriving children of learning science—and then ask me to participate in a debate? Why would anyone accept such an unprofessional, nasty invitation?
Now, we’re not saying no to a debate with the Houston Atheists Association. In fact we want one of our PhD scientists on staff to debate a PhD scientist chosen by the Houston Atheists Association. This would encourage a more fruitful exchange on the merits of creation vs. evolution, the age of the universe, etc. Answers in Genesis would seek out an impartial moderator, perhaps a local newsperson, and the debate could even be held in a university setting. Such a debate needs to be set up in a formal and professional way.
We hope that such a scientist with a doctorate would be willing to engage in a debate where both participants have time to present their sides and offer rebuttals in a respectful manner.

Get Ready for the Big Reveal: Our 2014 VBS Theme!
For many years one of our desires at Answers in Genesis was to produce a yearly Vacation Bible School (VBS) program that taught kids to love Jesus and to know how to defend their faith. In 2007, the Lord brought together a talented team of writers, illustrators, designers, and videographers, and the following year we released our very first VBS program, Amazon Expedition. Since then, by God’s grace, we’ve been able to release one new program every year and the response has been overwhelming!
Our 2013 program, The Kingdom Chronicles, is the best yet. Over 4,000 churches have purchased The Kingdom Chronicles kits for this summer and we expect that hundreds of thousands of children (and adult helpers!) will be taught to stand strong in the battle for absolute truth by putting on the spiritual armor of God. These are just a few of the comments we’ve received about our VBS programs:
The BEST I’ve ever put on…. As long as AiG keeps producing these I’ll never look at another
This is our 2nd year…. Last year was INCRED(world)IBLE!!
– Ginger R.
We loved the impact on the kids’ thinking from this interactive teaching.
– Kristen H
Through VBS, our foster child, who is battling fears, has learned so much about God’s protection. He has learned so much about God’s love in VBS and has experienced what it is like to be surrounded by God’s warriors.
– A parent at our test church
Our child was completely in love with the VBS theme! I’m so glad he was able to experience VBS. He couldn’t stop talking about each armor part and how he wanted a shield of faith so he will be able to block all of Satan’s attacks.
– A parent at our test church
Our children never get out of bed easily, but during VBS week, they popped right out of bed and were waiting on me to get out the door.
– Heather S.
The reminder of the spiritual battle during the teaching time spoke to my heart and convicted me to be more faithful.
– A VBS volunteer
Emails kept coming in all week long from moms asking if they could still sign up their kids for our VBS because they heard it was the best one in town.
– Kara S.
This VBS is “meatier” than other VBS programs. What I really like about the writing is that it’s not just fluff stuff.
– A worker at our test church
We provide lots of fun “extras” with each of our programs, but we always want the focus to be on the following qualities:
Teaching children to answer the skeptical questions they hear about God and the Bible in school
Sharing the gospel with them in detail so they truly understand what it means to repent of their sins and believe in Jesus for salvation
Encouraging them to grow to become more like their Savior
That’s why I’m really looking forward to our next VBS program for 2014. From what I’ve seen of it, I think it will be even better than this year’s.
We’ll be announcing the theme on June 10, but in the meantime, check out www.answersvbs.com/2014/ beginning today for fun video clues about the theme.
Win a $1,000 Answers VBS Shopping Spree!
You can also enter to win a $1,000 VBS shopping spree—see the website for more details.
Thanks to all who have used our past VBS programs to teach children about God. I hope you’ll encourage your church to join Answers VBS for 2014!

What Did the Pope Say?
Over the last week, people have contacted us at Answers in Genesis about some very controversial theological statements recently made by Pope Francis. In a speech on Wednesday, May 22, the Pope seemed to be saying something that his own Roman Catholic Church doesn’t teach. Before I write anything more, I’ll let you read the transcript of the Pope’s quote:
The Lord has created us in His image and likeness, and has given us this commandment in the depths of our heart: do good and do not do evil . . . The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! “Father, the atheists?” Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. “But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!” But do good: we will meet one another there.
Now, unless there is a language barrier I’m unaware of, Pope Francis seems to be saying that everyone, including atheists, has been redeemed and will go to heaven. If I understand this correctly (the media and others have also reported his statements as we understand them from the transcript of the talk), the Pope’s pronouncement contradicts the gospel of Jesus Christ!
What’s more, the Vatican then released an “Explanatory Note on the Meaning of ‘Salvation.’” In this statement Fr. Thomas Rosica confirmed the following:
They cannot be saved who, knowing the [Roman Catholic] Church as founded by Christ and necessary for salvation, would refuse to enter her or remain in her.
The Vatican’s statement doesn’t make the situation any better. Salvation, according to Fr. Rosica, is limited only to members of the Roman Catholic Church. Is that what the gospel of Jesus Christ teaches, that faith comes by the Roman Catholic Church and doing good works?
Of course not! The Apostle Paul tells us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). Christians are saved by grace, not by doing good works, through faith in Jesus Christ. Christ Himself makes it abundantly clear to Nicodemus what it takes to spend eternity in heaven:
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
Romans 10:9 makes it clear that salvation is received only by those who confess Jesus as Lord and believe in His Resurrection:
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
What this means, of course, is that atheists will not be in heaven, no matter how many good works they do. In fact, members of the Roman Catholic Church, the Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Church (or any other church for that matter) who haven’t believed the gospel of Christ also will not be in heaven. But redemption is available to everyone—atheists included—solely through the saving gospel of Christ!
So for the Roman Catholic Church, we say that the gospel of Christ “is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). I urge you to share the gospel with your unbelieving friends, neighbors, relatives, and others today!
Remember the following passages of Scripture:
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

The Liberty to Go to Liberty
Recently a good friend of mine and great friend of AiG, Dr. David DeWitt (director, Center for Creation Studies; chair, Department of Biology and Chemistry, professor of biology at Liberty University in Virginia), forwarded a testimony to me that was sent to him by a colleague at Liberty. That colleague of Dr. DeWitt had received a wonderful testimony from a Liberty student.
As a result of a visit to the Creation Museum, this student now had liberty from his bondage to worldly desires, rededicated his life to Christ, and enrolled at Liberty University. What a blessing it was to me to read this testimony—and I wanted to share that blessing with all of you:
Looking back on the early part of last year, I was enrolled in college and getting decent grades, but I had no real direction for my life or knowledge of what I should be doing.
Every night I would be out partying, drinking, and doing drugs, I felt like this was not only a way [to] fit in with other people but it would provide an escape from thinking about life’s bigger questions. I eventually failed an entire semester and I was ready to give up my pursuit of a degree when I got a call from my step-mother.
She was calling to let me know that my dad, my sister, and her were going on a RV trip and was wondering if I wanted to come. I decided to go figuring I had nothing better to do. One of the places we went was the Creation Museum in Kentucky, and to my surprise at the time; it was one of the greatest things I had ever seen.
After seeing the exhibits and all the information that was provided, things that the public school system would never even mention or teach about, I began to cry realizing how separated from God I had become.
I decided that day that I needed to make a change in my life and made the decision to give my life back to Christ. Since then I have quit drinking and doing any kind of drugs, becoming healthier in the process not only physically but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I enrolled at Liberty to get an education that was focused on Christian principles. I know that my life is on the right path set before me by God, and I have become more positive than ever before about my future.
– J.G.
The message of the Creation Museum—now entering its seventh year of operation—continues to impact lives for the Lord Jesus Christ!
I’m also thrilled that this student has enrolled at a Christian university that is on our list of colleges that take a public stand on a literal Genesis.
Many of you may remember that AiG contracted with America’s Research Group to discover what Christian institutions teach in regard to Genesis and biblical authority. The results were shocking. If you have never read the book (titled Already Compromised) that Greg Hall and I wrote to present the details of the results from the research, I urge you to do so. You can obtain the book in our online store.
Because of the shocking compromise that exists in most Christian colleges, we started a website to list those Christian institutions that publicly state they take the same stand as Answers in Genesis regarding the historicity of the book of Genesis: www.CreationColleges.org.
Sadly, there are not very many Christian colleges on this list, but the huge Liberty University is one of them. You can find out more about Liberty University at www.liberty.edu.
Many parents do not realize that sending their children to a compromising Christian college can have a disastrous effect on the students’ view of the authority of the Word of God. That, in turn, can have a devastating effect on their lives—and eternity.
I urge you to obtain the book Already Compromised and check out a Christian university that takes a stand on God’s Word from the very first verse.
And make sure you visit the Creation Museum with your family soon, especially with so much having been added recently.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
