Women Need To Brag More At Work

Self-promotion is key to success, but it makes many women uncomfortable. The solution? Distract them.

Ah, the see-saw advice that women face when it comes to professional success. Can we have it all? Should we lean in? Would that require bragging more? Yes, research has shown that self-promotion is a significant component to closing the gap between men's and women's achievements in the workplace. But thanks to societal gender norms, women are often told to be modest, demure, and polite. What's a self-respecting but socially conditioned gal to do?

7 Brilliant Ideas To Make Health Data More Useful

What if there were an easy way to connect with people in your neighborhood who had the same health problems as you? That's just one idea from the winners of the Knight Foundation's challenge for new tools that use health data.

For A Glimpse Of Tommorow's Portable Devices, Look At The Bluetooth Speakers Of Today

Bluetooth speakers were a dime a dozen at this year's CES. And though they might not revolutionize the audio world, they give designers a chance to experiment, which, in turn, could lead to truly innovative ideas.

If there's one item that was practically unavoidable at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, it was the Bluetooth speaker, which is suddenly so ubiquitous that it was tough to walk more than 30 seconds of show floor without stumbling on yet another one. In some ways, this is just the unremarkable result of a set of maturing technologies, coupled with growing demand for music that's mobile and uncomplicated. But these same qualities have also turned the Bluetooth speaker into a kind of design playground, giving industrial designers and tech companies an opportunity to flex their creative muscles in much the same way weather apps have for interaction designers.

Can We All Just Admit Google Is An Evil Empire?

A growing chorus of voices in the tech industry are exhorting us to get used to Google's violations of users' privacy and preferences.

Google is kicking off 2014 with some good old-fashioned privacy infringement. The search giant's recent decision to link Gmail addresses to Google+ was met with considerable backlash among users who don't want their inboxes exposed to spam. But according to former Tumblr lead developer Marco Arment on his blog, we really shouldn't be surprised at all:
