This Is How Google's Driverless Cars Navigate Tricky Roadblocks
How do autonomous cars navigate unforeseen events like road construction? Google pulls back the curtains on the software a bit in a new video.
Google's self-driving fleet of Prius and Lexus vehicles have a stellar safety record, and, at least according to Google, are now safer than human drivers. That's partially because machines aren't distracted by things like spilled coffee or an obnoxious song on the radio. They also don't get tired after a 10-hour day at the office.

With Better Immunization Cards, Will More Kids Get Vaccinated?
The Gates Foundation challenged the global health community to redesign immunization cards. Here are the results.
This final week in April is World Immunization Week--a campaign by the World Health Organization (WHO) aimed at raising awareness of the vital importance of vaccines, which prevent 2 to 3 million deaths every year. Yet despite the sophisticated vaccines available, studies show that 1 in 5 children still miss out. In 2012, an estimated 22.6 million infants didn't receive routine immunizations. More than half of these children live in three countries: India, Indonesia, and Nigeria.

Every Button On This Touch Screen Is Actually A Tiny Robot
Robots function as hooks, knobs, and more in this desktop interface from Brooklyn-based Patten Studio.
Your iPhone is a facade. Its apps may sparkle with color--some even seem to pop from your screen in 3-D--but they're illusions with real tactile qualities. More and more, interface designers are attempting to break this fourth wall and make information something that you can really feel and move with your own two hands.

Sallie Krawcheck knows a thing or two about risk.

What Is The Best Country In The World To Work?
It's no secret that the U.S. has pretty lousy work-life policies. But is the grass really greener in other parts of the world? Depends on what's important to you. Here, we explore what work would be like if you lived in another country.
If you were to make a list of all the things you consider when taking a job, what would be on there? Would you include maternity leave policies, amount of vacation days, or average pay rates?

Finally, Hold Music That Doesn't Suck
"Well, I've been sitting here all day, I've been sitting in this waiting room," croons UberConference's creative director and cofounder, Alex Cornell. And just like that, one more of life's little irritants is plucked away.
If there's anything worse than sitting on hold during a phone call, we can all agree, it's listening to unpleasant sounds pretending to be "music" while sitting on hold during a phone call. Most of the so-called music that plays before a conference call or while waiting, waiting, waiting for a customer service representative, is terrible because it's treacly, utilitarian, and blaring out of the headset primarily so the person on the line doesn't feel forgotten. Its main purpose is not to entertain, so it's often not very entertaining. There's no care put into the act.

7 Ways To Knock An Hour Off Your Work Day
We all wish there were more hours in the day. Start using the time you have more wisely and see how much you can accomplish in less time.
In Gothenburg, Sweden, recently, officials proposed an experiment: Some chunk of government workers--now working seven-hour days--would cut their schedules to six hours. Would they be just as productive as their seven-hour colleagues if they left a little earlier?

Why Chasing After Happiness Is Making You Unhappy
Stuck on a "hedonic treadmill?" Studies show that people are often wrong about what they think will make them happy, and happiness might not be the great pursuit it's cracked up to be.
How many times have you been ecstatic about a job, relationship, or situation in your life, then found yourself, only months later, feeling indifferent or even disappointed in that same scenario?
