Vice Media Writers Vote To Unionize
Writers at Vice are reportedly unionizing.
In a surprise move on a summer Friday, writers at Vice Media have voted to unionize. The Wall Street Journal reports that Vice's writers will be joining the Writer's Guild of America, East (WGA), and that sources say Vice is prepared to recognize the union.

An airplane's "black box" flight data recorder helps investigators understand how a crash happened. But with ubiquitous sensors and the ability to analyze petabytes of data online, technology could some day predict how future crashes will happen, and how to prevent them. "I don't want to promise that we will build it…but it is definitely possible," says Harel Kodesh, manager of GE's Predix cloud-computing service.

Titillating fact: One of my duties in an earlier publishing job was to moderate comments in a heavily spammed CMS. I combed through hundreds each week so I could approve the one or two that were written by actual humans. In the process I noticed the spambots were "writing" some pretty evocative things, so I started to copy and paste my favorite snippets into a Google doc. Eventually I made some cheeky little poems by piecing them together.

The China-linked hackers who allegedly stole security clearance applications cared a lot about travel itineraries, too.
The same hackers who stole the records of 22 million Americans, including security clearance applications, also reportedly hacked into American Airlines. According to Bloomberg, both the airline and travel reservation firm Sabre appear to have been the subject of recent breaches.

More than 100 brands have had links to their site taken down from Jet's affiliate section, after alleging that the site did not have permission to list them.
