Moses de León (c. 1250–1305), known in Hebrew as Moshe ben Shem-Tov (משה בן שם-טוב די-ליאון and other transliterations), was a rabbi and Kabbalist who is thought of as the composer or redactor of the Zohar, as well as author of other works of Jewish mysticism. There remains some controversy over whether the Zohar was his own work, or whether he committed to writing oral traditions going back to the 2nd century Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai in writing as he claimed a the time of its 13th century publication. ...more
