The Taco Awards
The wonderful Kid Lit podcast Reading With a Chance of Tacos are presenting their first ever Taco Awards and I’m so excited because these awards celebrate funny, quirky and imaginative books.
From their website:
At Reading with a chance of Tacos, it’s all about books that entertain. The Taco Awards aim to honour the books that kids want to read. It’s time to celebrate! The Taco Awards differ from other awards as books are not judged solely on literary merit, but emphasis is on entertaining the reader. Tacos has always been a podcast full of enthusiasm and fun. We love the books we receive and review on our podcast. We particularly love funny, quirky, and imaginative books. And books that excite us for no other reason than they’re just so entertaining! We also believe many of these books are the books kids truly want to read. We see these books as being extremely important, both as a precursor to more advanced literature, and as entertainment in their own right. And God knows we need entertaining books!
I’m also excited to say the Nerd Herd series has been longlisted for some of the awards!! Shaama Llama Ding Dong is longlisted for the Best Character in a Children’s Book award. She’s got some pretty stiff competition but if they give her any trouble, she’ll be sure to start spitting.
And Kitty Litter has been longlisted for the Reluctant Reader Award.

New Series Out Now
The new series I’ve been working on with Chris Kennett has taken off and is available now!
Aimed for readers 8-12, Family Holidays Disasters is a comedy adventure series following Jakob and his family as they experience the most disastrous family holiday of all time. Books 2 and 3 are in the works and will be heading your way shortly. In the meantime, the blurb for Book 1 (Crash Landing) is as follows:
There’s a reason families usually live together ― to contain the horror and not inflict it on others. A family holiday is a really, really bad idea! After a super embarrassing situation at school, Jakob decides the only way to escape the ridicule is to leave the country on a family holiday. But with a cheapskate worry-wart for a dad and an obnoxiously loud optimist for a mum, fresh humiliation is around every corner. Even worse, the weirdest girl at school is coming along for the ride and won’t let Jakob out of her sight. Jakob thinks he has hit rock-bottom. Little does he know there is always further to fall in a family holiday disaster!
