[UPDATED] TNG Boston Book Club appearance June 16 Cambridge MA

EDIT: Meeting is happening on the 16th, not the 14th

I'm a book club selection, how 'bout that!

Boston TNG* is an organization for kinky New Englanders under 35. Their book club has chosen The Erotofluidic Age to be the subject of their June meeting, and has invited me to attend (they'll be making me an honorary 35-year-old for the evening, I believe). Having never done a book club appearance before, I'm very excited, and a little nervous--I'm not sure what sort of discussion to expect.

Also, I love this quote from the announcement: The author's style delightfully combines the formal style of late-19th-century writers with a modern sense of humor and hot, explicit sex. I'm gonna have to start using it in publicity material.

* TNG stands for The Next Generation. What, geeky pervs? Never!

MY FIRST BOOK: THE EROTOFLUIDIC AGE

I am very excited to announce that my first single-author ebook, The Erotofluidic Age, is now available for download in just about any format you might want. It's for sale on the Circlet Press website, Amazon, Fictionwise, fifty zillion Smashwords mirrors, and Google knows where else.

Each of those sites has slightly different excerpts from the book, so if you want free samples, you should dig around for maximum value.

The book costs seven bucks, and a little over sixty thousand words long. The first story is The Ontological Engine, which I've discussed and excerpted here before; the other four-fifths of the book continue the story of Daedalus Tesla, his ontological engine, and his unconventional household.

If you read it, and you feel like doing me a favor, talk about your experience. An Amazon review, a Goodreads review, a blog entry, a comment here, a private email--whatever strikes your fancy.

In related news: yes, I'm aware that my profile page currently looks like ass. The problem with messing with HTML/CSS only every couple years is that you have a chance to forget everything you knew between times. I'll clean it up in the next week or so--honest.

Readercon, July 14-17, Burlington, MA

I'm going to be a guest at this year's Readercon, which will be my first, even though it's been a regular whistle stop for a ridiculous who's who of my favorite living SF writers, including Crowley, Delany, Waldrop, and Wolfe.

I don't know anything about what programming I'll be participating in yet, but I'll post again closer to the event with more details.

Referrer log oddity

I've confessed it here before--I'm hooked on web server logs, and have been as long as I've had access to them. The lack of referrer data is still my most unfavoritest thing about blogging on LiveJournal.

This week, I looked in on the stats for VinnieTesla.com, and noticed a substantial jump in traffic on the tenth. Digging further, it didn't seem to come from one particular referrer, but the search queries section showed a very odd pattern. Replicating the searches didn't produce anything notably relevant, so my best guess is that they were searching for something from a TV show, since if it were elsewhere on the web, presumably Google would have noticed.

Live appearance in Providence, RI Friday evening

I just got confirmation that I'll be part of the Author's Reading event at the Fletish FlairFetish Fair Fleamarket at the Providence Westin in about 20 hours. The author event is from 8 to 10 PM; I have very little info at this point about who else will be appearing or in what order.

I am entertaining suggestions about what I should read there. Given the event, it should probably be something kinky, but then, I haven't written all that much that isn't.

EFA cover image draft

Making this has been quite a little education. Big ups to [info] lim for hir awesome introduction to slab serifs and to the makers of the very impressive free desktop publishing app Scribus.

I'm thinking of trying to print up a few chapbooks tomorrow to give out at Arisia this weekend. Anyone else planning on going?

Boo-yah!

Today, on the autumnal equinox, I finally finished the first rough draft of my short novel The Terminando, or, the Modern Tiresias. It's currently a bit under 39,000 words, and will probably be several thousand words shorter when it appears next year as part of my first single-author collection from Circlet Press. It's the longest thing I've ever written, which I realize will make a lot of you folks laugh till milk comes out your noses (and I hope it short-circuits your keyboard and ruins, it...

CIDU

Comics I Don't Understand is a popular blog about perplexing newspaper strips.

Then there's cliches I don't understand. What is particularly classic about mutual oral sex?
Are nipples really sexier when they remind you of office supplies?

Are there any sex-writing cliches that have always confused you?
