1. The Third World Oscar Mayer Wiener
t looked to me to be some sort of joke they intended to play on the producers. On yesterday's Morning Joe, Time magazine's Mark Halperin, asked his take on Barack Obama's Wednesday press conference, said the President came off like a "dick." That's his word, not mine.
He said they might need a delay. The production crew may have been asleep at the switch. They did not delay it. It got out there on live television. Halperin apologized. MSNBC suspended him "indefinitely." He said what a growing number of Republicans, Democrats, and people in the media think.
It's a problem for Barack Obama.
But another problem is shaping up on the floor of the United States Senate. Marco Rubio, who is rapidly becoming one of the most impassioned champions for opposing the debt ceiling increase, said that Barack Obama's class warfare soliloquy was not the rhetoric of the President of the United States, but of a third world leader.

2. Best Workforces Are In Right-To-Work States, Survey Finds
This may just be a coincidence but, out of the 50 states, there are 22 states that do not force people to pay union dues as a condition of employment. Workers in these states are often viewed derisively by union extremists as being somehow inferior to their union counterparts. However, a new study published by CNBC may blow that myth out of the water.

3. Fourth of July: REPUBLICAN BREEDING GROUND!!!!!
I suspect that the Democratic party probably doesn't want to ever see this sentence from a Harvard statistical survey appear in a news story:
"Taken together, the results indicate that Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican party."
…for fairly obvious reasons . Short version: going to Fourth of July celebrations (using a statistical rule of thumb* of good weather = participation) as a child results in an increased possibility of voting Republican as an adult (it apparently doesn't move the needle at all when it comes to voting Democratic). Oh, and progressives are why the Fourth became a public secular holiday in the first place**. Lastly: if you want to zap your kids into patriotism and/or Republicanism, the key dates to get them to a parade are from 7 to 10 for later partisan identification, and 15 to 18 for increased voter participation.

4. Michele Bachmann: Don't Forget Obamacare
The most effective proposal for dealing with the debt ceiling vote that has the backing of conservatives is the Cut, Cap, and Balance plan brought forth by the RSC. Accordingly, virtually every major conservative organization has coalesced around a pledge forcing all members of Congress to support the plan as a condition to raising the debt ceiling. The presidential candidates are also being recruited to sign the pledge, with Jim DeMint promising to support only those who sign to it.
Yesterday, Mitt Romney announced his support for the pledge, joining every other announced Republican candidate except Jon Huntsman and ….Michele Bachmann?
While Bachmann is a strong supporter of the RSC plan, she is still tepid about signing the pledge. CNN is reporting that Bachmann told DeMint she is still contemplating her support for the pledge because she wants it "to go a little further." Bachmann said at a town hall in South Carolina that she would like to add the defunding of Obamacare to the pledge as another precondition to raising the debt ceiling.

5. A Union Card Only Goes So Far as UFT & NAACP Throw 7,000 Kids Under the Bus
According to the union-member mom in this video (she also comes from a family of union members) she is not anti-union. However, this proud union member is a mother first and, in New York, there is a union that is trying to hurt her children.
Both the United Federation of Teachers and NAACP have filed a lawsuit that puts her children's future education (and the future of 7,000 other New York children) in dire jeopardy–just as schools are set to open in a few more weeks. Last month's lawsuit seeks to stop New York from closing 22 horribly failing schools and allowing for 17 charter schools to operate.

6. The Delusion of Indispensability
There is something about political office that either drives many men to infidelity — and the belief that the old rules don't apply to them — or attracts the sorts of men prone to infidelity and a belief in their own exemption from the rules. Just the last few years have been remarkable for the wave of public men confessing (or being found to have) a complete inability to keep their pants on around women other than their wives.

7. George Soros Gives Little Lee Fang His Comeuppance
One of the most genuinely stupid and embarrassing things to ever appear at Think Progress — and that's saying something — was a recent supposed takedown of the evil Koch Brothers by their supposedly nemesis, Little Lee Fang the ankle biting blogger.
Little Lee Fang tried to make a mountain out of something sinister called contango, a concept about which he clearly knew nothing and tried to make it into everything. Steve Maley picked it apart here.
Little Lee Fang's "contango" moment was one of those times when even the media sympathetic to Think Progress had to sit back and utter a collective, "Damn, that was stupid."
Well, Media Research Center has obtained hidden footage from inside the Center for American Progress of George Soros, Little Lee's benefactor, giving him his comeuppance.

Obama the Uniter: Halperin Calls Him a 'Dick' and Rubio Calls Him a 'Third World Leader' #EERS
Well, Barack Obama is definitely a uniter. Mark Halperin of Time called him a "dick" and Marco Rubio took to the floor of the Senate today to call him a "third world leader."
We're going get into all of this tonight on the Erick Erickson Show. You can listen live at http://wsbradio.com and you can call in at 1-800-WSB-TALK. You really can call in, by the way.
Consider this an open thread.

Richard Mourdock for Senate
I have, for a number of months, been asked what I thought of Indiana and the race for the Senate there. I have said all along that Richard Lugar's time has passed and it is time for us to replace him with someone else.
I wanted to wait and see who would stand up to take the challenge of moving that seat to the right. One man has — Richard Mourdock.
For the better part of his Senate career, Richard Lugar has defined leadership as reaching across the aisle to screw conservatives. He was a thorn in President Reagan's side. He is a problem now for conservatives.
He has supported earmarks, refused to sign a brief opposing Obamacare, and routinely laments "polarization", by which he means conservatives actually standing up and fighting back.
As much as conservatives need to stop Heather Wilson from winning the GOP nomination in New Mexico, conservatives and tea party activists can and should seize this moment and beat Richard Lugar. In fact, I hear that the GOP establishment in D.C. is deeply worried. There is independent polling out showing Lugar is extremely vulnerable to be beaten in a Republican primary.
Let's do it. And let's do it with Richard Mourdock.
While Lugar has been in the Senate fighting against conservatives, Mourdock has been in Indiana fighting for conservatives. Mourdock has been out on the campaign trail withstanding attack after attack from Lugar and his acolytes. And the attacks have all largely been to cast Mourdock as . . . wait for it . . . too conservative for Indiana.
Mourdock can win. He has a track record. The Republicans in Indiana have grown weary of Senator Lugar. It's time to retire Lugar to the Bipartisan Policy Center, where all former moderate Republicans go to embrace their inner liberal, and send Richard Mourdock to the United States Senate.
The Horserace for June 30, 2011
NH Primary: Feb. 14, 2012 (expected)
SC Primary: TBD
NV Caucus: Feb. 18, 2012
The race shakes up this week. It's the first major shake up of the Presidential horserace in weeks. Michele Bachmann surges into second place — running neck and neck with Mitt Romney. Falling further behind are everyone else.
Tim Pawlenty has stumbled. Gary Johnson is off the track. Newt Gingrich looks to be heading off the track. And then there's Herman Cain. Cain keeps surprising, but for how much longer?
It looks like Rick Perry is getting into the starting gate and we've got to start taking him seriously. Sarah Palin? Well, she's still not running, but this trip to Iowa raises questions — not just of whether she is running, but who is she helping.
While all eyes are on the starting gate to see who else might get in, Mitt Romney just signaled he's nervous.
We'll get into all of it this week in the Horserace. As always, the names are written alphabetically and the take is mine and mine alone as an objective, but conservative, observer of the Presidential horse race.
Michele Bachmann
Michele Bachmann's polling right now is dazzling and I am now prepared to designate her officially as the anti-Romney candidate. She's been fighting for legitimacy for months. Her CNN New Hampshire debate performance helped her solidify that legitimacy. Her polling now makes her a top contender. It is a meteoric rise.
The problem for Bachmann is that a meteoric rise typically precedes a meteoric fall in politics. When candidates catch a spark as quickly as Michele Bachmann has, the other campaigns get nervous and a pile on typically ensues. But those campaigns taking off so quickly typically have not made all the staffing decisions they need and can be caught off guard by the pile on, find themselves unable to rapidly respond to the pile on, and flame out.
We're already seeing the attacks come in both through typical media vetting, liberal bias in the media, and no doubt a few selective leaks from her opponents both in Congress and other campaigns.
Right now though, Bachmann is giving Romney a run for his money in the polls. That doesn't have Romney worried yet because I'm willing to bet he doesn't see Bachmann as a long term rival, but as someone who can prevent a greater rival from catching up. HIstory is against Michele Bachmann being the nominee, but she's having a lot of fun defying history right now.
Herman Cain
The more Michele Bachmann seems to be gaining steam, the more Herman Cain seems to be petering out. He has lost two staffers in the past few days. I am hearing rumblings that his campaign finances are not great. Contrary to some misconceptions, Cain cannot self fund. I love Herman Cain. Al Gore may have invented the internet, but Cain invented pizza, so God bless him. But this isn't looking good.
Running an insurgent campaign only gets you so far. Insurgent campaigns are heavily grassroots based. But with Michele Bachmann now owning the grassroots, it is hard for Cain to stand out. Bachmann's rise is his fall.
There is a silver lining for Herman Cain. He continues to have growing name id, high favorable intensity, and is holding his own in most polling. The attacks are going to come fast and furious on Michele Bachmann. Cain could potentially position himself to pick up the pieces. Right now, that is the only way I see him gaining traction.
Newt Gingrich
I no longer see the rationale to Newt Gingrich's campaign. I have talked to a half dozen people over the past few weeks and all recount the same story. Newt told them he was running and largely saw the field as his to own and master. When you come into a race viewing yourself not as the dark horse, but as the white knight, your campaign strategy immediately goes flat when the voters don't embrace you as the savior and hero.
The financial loss to the Gingrich media campaign has got to be staggering. The loss to his reputation leaves a lot of us breathless. Were I Gingrich, I wouldn't limp through continuing to bleed. I'd be up front that the campaign wasn't going as well as expected, the party seems still unsure of its place in the world, and Newt should declare that he is going to step out and provide the intellectual ammunition for the others — then position himself as the all anti-Obama all the time intellect that he is and rebuild his reputation as the proverbial Moses of the party who doesn't get into the promised land, but without whom the promised land would have been unattainable.
Jon Huntsman
Up front I admit I am biased against Jon Huntsman for a number of reasons. Though I have to admit his tax record is better than Romney's. The Huntsman campaign is intent on running as the happy moderate and portraying everyone else and their voters as angry.
The problem with that is Huntsman will then need to do something to get into the good graces of those voters come the general election. Certainly many will come out of loathing of Obama. But when Huntsman is portraying himself and the media is portraying Huntsman as the Republican version of Obama, that's not exactly helping.
If Utah moves up its primary, Huntsman and Romney will fight it out and the winner there will have some momentum. Right now, Huntsman seems focused on New Hampshire, but even more so states after New Hampshire. If Rick Perry gets in, that axes South Carolina from his strategy. He'll have what amounts to a Giuliani strategy, which I don't see getting him far.
And a dog fight in Michigan, Nevada, and New Hampshire with Romney helps Bachmann, Pawlenty, and Perry if he gets in.
Gary Johnson
Gary Johnson will be removed next week from the list. His campaign is dead in the water.
Sarah Palin
I do not, at this point, see signs that Sarah Palin is getting into the race for President. Considering, however, that she was in New Hampshire when MItt Romney announced and Iowa when Michele Bachmann announced, I definitely think Palin is trying to keep the window open to get in if her polling changes.
Right now, if I had to guess, I think she is not running for anything except continued relevance. Palin can legitimately shape up to be the king maker. I continue to dwell on her comments during the bus tour that she wants Rick Perry to run.
Ron Paul
Ron Paul will not be the nominee, but his ability to excite a base of youthful voters is something that continues to impress a lot of people who should know better.
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty is feeling the political version of the great stagnation the country is feeling economically. He is going nowhere. The slow and steady pace has been what was keeping Pawlenty alive. To his credit, he has given more substantive economic and foreign policy speeches than any of the other candidates including, surprisingly, Mitt Romney.
But Pawlenty is not gaining traction. He's seen as boring to some or too nice to others. Neither of those are actually terrible things in a general election, but I don't think they are translating in a Republican Primary.
I still Pawlenty has the inside edge, but now I must say that this is only if he deals with Bachmann carefully. He's going to need her support in Iowa. Like Cain, Pawlenty can back on Bachmann going back down in the polls and be there to pick up the pieces. He may also have to get traction by going more aggressively for Romney. If, however, Rick Perry gets in, it is going to make it extremely difficult for Pawlenty.
Rick Perry
The Perry buzz continues to grow. In addition to his trip to South Carolina for the RedState Gathering, I hear Perry's associates are reaching out to people in Iowa. Every indication is that Perry is serious about getting in, but I suspect he's first seeing if he can secure funding. If Perry gets in, I think we won't see Sarah Palin get in and I think we'll see a few other candidates depart sooner than expected.
Mitt Romney
Romney's campaign may be playing it safe, but there are signs of concern. A Wall Street Journal article from yesterday has quotes from a Utah elections official who claimed Romney was trying to pressure Utah to move up its primary date even though it would cost Utah citizens $2.5 million to do so.
That Romney is trying to move up the Utah primary to get himself a good win in a favorable state early suggests concern. Likewise, it is Jon Huntsman's home state too, but surprisingly a lot of polls have Romney beating Huntsman. Pushing up the primary could give Romney a chance to finish off Huntsman early instead of battling Huntsman's millions in a protracted race.
Likewise, with Bachmann's surge, we may see a situation where Bachmann wins Iowa, putting her in a position to also win South Carolina. Starting with the GOP Primary in 1980, no Republican has won the nomination without winning South Carolina.
Rick Santorum
I see no rationale for Rick Santorum to remain in the race and I expect him to drop out sooner rather than later. His fundraising is not going to be nearly as impressive as Bachmann's and he increasingly is without buzz on the campaign trail or an ability to have an impact.

Today is the last day of the financial quarter for candidates for office. Below are links to the candidates we've come for so far. Please consider giving what you can.
Josh Mandel of Ohio, who was also recently endorsed by Jim DeMint.

2. Obama's class warfare… against Obama's stimulus program.
Even for Barack Obama, this is simultaneously: shameless; and clueless.
"I've said to Republican leaders, 'You go talk to your constituents and ask them, "Are you willing to compromise your kids' safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?" ' "
Just in case any viewer missed his class-clashing message, Obama referred to corporate-jet owners at least three more times before he took his second question.
It's shameless because President Obama has only one rhetorical trick, and that's to demonize everybody who disagrees with whatever faux-Hegelian position he's ended up taking on any given day. It's particularly clueless because what the President apparently doesn't know is that the latest iteration of the tax break in question was put into place as part of Barack Obama's own 2009 "stimulus."

3. Obama 'Gingerly' Weighs In On NLRB Attack On Boeing Jobs
Ever since his union appointees at the National Labor Relations Board launched an attack on the Boeing Company and its creating thousands of jobs in South Carolina, the 'independent' union agency has found itself the subject of much derision and President Obama has been challenged to 'step up' and tell the NLRB to back off.
On Wednesday, according to the Hill, Obama finally "weighed in" on the NLRB fracas…gingerly.

4.
You heard it here first.
The International Energy Agency, a body whose membership parallels the G-20 and which is dominated by members of the EU, announced that it may consider releasing more oil from "its stockpile" (1.6 billion barrels, nearly half of that in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve) at the end of the current 30-day, 2 million barrels per day period.
5. Say No to Baucus Trade Deal
While Obama has spent the past two years pandering to leftist dictators in Latin America, he has also impeded ratification of free trade agreements with our allies. Along with Democrat leaders in Congress, Obama has refused to approve the 5-year-old trade pacts with Columbia, Panama, and South Korea unless Republicans agree to renew a trade subsidy program known as Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Yesterday, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) announced that he had secured a novel compromise with House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and the president. Drum roll…. He will agree to fast track the trade agreements if …Republicans agree to renew the TAA program! Wow, who needed two years' worth of negotiations?
Please click here for the rest of the post.
6. Democrat Congressmen in Love with Hamas Love Boat
The western organizations that agitate for Hamas are preparing for the next Flotilla circus, in which they plan to breach Israel's blockade of Hamasistan (aka Gaza). This 15-ship fleet includes a vessel that will carry 36 American leftists. The ship is appropriately named The Audacity of Hope, as a tribute to the most pro-Palestinian leader of the free world. No, they are not bringing hope and change to the region; they are bringing deadly chemicals to throw on the Israeli soldiers who will inevitably board the ship. Now, six Democrats are asking the State Department to protect the American leftists while they offer aid and comfort to our enemies.

If At First You Don't Succeed
First off this morning, I hope you will call Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) today at (202) 224-5323 and tell him thank you for standing up to both Democrats and Republicans yesterday in a valiant attempt to force transparency on debt talks.
Johnson declared his intend to grind the Senate to a halt by ceasing to give his consent to further Senate business by unanimous consent. The Democrats and a few Republicans ganged up on him, which can bruise the ego of a freshman Senator.
Senator, I know you are reading. Don't stop now. Be bold and do more of this. The rest of you should call and give him some encouragement on this.
Second, I know many conservative congressmen are reading this Morning Briefing. I want to address them directly. You should stop dragging your feet hoping to get the votes for the Lee-Cornyn-Hatch Balanced Budget Amendment or the Walsh version in the House.
You aren't going to get the votes. You just aren't. Go on and have the vote. You are going to lose. But then do something for me, will you?
Make it clear that until you do get the votes necessary for passage you will obstruct and block an increase in the debt ceiling.
I know I am asking you to do something unusual in Washington. Typically, in Washington, you get your vote, you lose, and you move on. But Washington politics as usual is what got us into this mess.
So hold the freaking line. Hold the debt ceiling hostage. If the Democrats want the debt ceiling raised, they need to send Lee-Cornyn-Hatch out to the states for ratification. They can fight to stop it there. But do this for me — draw a line in the sand.
You force a vote and then another vote and then another vote until you get the two-thirds needed in both houses and don't you dare give up fighting against the debt ceiling increase until you get that two-thirds vote. The rules in this fight must be different. You must keep blocking until they give you what you want.

2. The Immigration Policy of Absurdistan: Legal is Illegal; Illegal is Legal
Imagine for a moment that a pack of strangers – ranging from hooligans to plain homeless – illegally entered your home and started raiding the pantry, stealing your possessions, stuffing up the toilets, and sleeping on your bed. When you call the police to come down and remove them, you are told they cannot assist you because they lack the power to profile the unwanted guests from other members of the household. As desperation sets in, you join with your neighbors to chase them out. Much to your chagrin, lawyers for the intruders impel the courts to issue a 'cease and desist order,' obstructing efforts to deny the intruders anything, including the twinkies in the pantry. Moreover, teams of advocates for these brazen burglars begin to record the contact information of those locals who desire to stop the illegal entries.

3. Because They Won't Attack Hillary Clinton, They Attack Josh Trevino
The left is in a tizzy because some "well meaning" people are on a flotilla to Gaza and Josh Trevino dares to say what so many of the rest of us are thinking — if Israel takes out the flotilla in self defense, so be it.
Frankly, from my vantage point, I can't see any other rational position — particularly for those who support Israel, particularly for conservatives.
Please click here for the rest of the post.
4. On Immorality
The Democrats, in particular Joe Biden and Barack Obama, are out to make the moral case for tax increases. They claim the Republican position is immoral.
This is what happens when we debase morality in our American political culture.
For perspective, when Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois, he was the only state senator to speak in opposition to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. He stood up and made the case that if an infant is born alive in the process of an abortion, the doctor who botched the abortion should be able to finish off the kid, even though the child had exited the womb alive.
That, my friends, that is immoral.

5. The Cost of Bailouts: Cronyism
One of the reasons that I was against the bailouts, both bank and auto, was the effect I feared it would have on the way business is conducted. It's easy to point to a TARP loan being repaid (with interest) and declare victory for bailouts. But to do so assumes that all consequences of government intervention in private enterprise have been realized.
One of the main concerns from opponents of the bailouts was cronyism. And cronyism is rearing it's ugly head these days.
Case in point, Dan Akerson of General Motors.
