Big Quote
Problem is, we see dark things and assume they are black things. When, in reality, it’s very hard to find something that is pure black. Roads aren’t black. Your office chair isn’t black. The sidebar in Sparrow isn’t black. Words on web pages aren’t black.

The Ex
I took some photos of the Ex this weekend, and then put them through Instagram.

The general intention of our covers is to attract Americans, who, more elementary than the Britishers, are schooled from infancy to disdain even the best product unless it is smoothly packaged and merchandised
When “Hoover” crept into the English vernacular at least we had “vacuum cleaner” to fall back on, we just chose to phase it out. This time we only have Tweet, we only have Twitter

An interview with Robin Sloan
I'm really proud of what we've done with Gredunza Press. One thing we've left in the archives for a while are a set of interviews conducted a few years ago. I wanted to place them somewhere, while also adding new ones. I want to have conversations with people I think are doing great work and have interesting ideas.
The first interview I've put back up is with author Robin Sloan. It's a great interview. Click the title above to listen. While you're there, subscribe to the show. There's going to be a lot more where that came from.

More Tech Things
The human computer interface helps to define computing at any one time. As computers have become more mainstream the interfaces have become more intimate. This is the journey of computer technology and how it has come to touch all of our lives.
The breakthrough wasn't just the speed with which the tables could crack passwords; it was also their ability to crack almost every possible password as long as it didn't fall outside the targeted keyspace.

More Guilty Pleasure Things
I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, I only believe in pleasures. People who call reading detective fiction or eating dessert a guilty pleasure make me want to puke.
Once in a lifetime everyone should have the opportunity to govern their own island outpost.
One of the coolest running jokes in Arrested Development is how the writers hid the actors in other roles throughout the show. For example, in the Season Two episode “Amigos,” Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Tony Hale all appear in a clip of a Mexican silent film from 1927.

Big Quote
Men are not free when they are doing just what they like. The moment you can do just what you like, there is nothing you care about doing. Men are only free when they are doing what the deepest self likes.
And there is getting down to the deepest self! It takes some diving.
