Macho Man Randy Savage died today. As is tradition, I have immortalized him as a Jedi spirit. Now he can snap into Slim Jims with his mind.
Rest in Peace.

Ten thoughts on the upcoming Steel Cage DVD
1) That cover is awful. The 2002 Bloodiest Brawls DVD had a superior cover for the content.
2) Speaking of, what are they going to do about all the blood? Make the entire three discs in black and white?
3) That wouldn't be terrible. There's something really cool about watching wrestling in black and white.
4) Did you know you can play L.A. Noire in black and white? When was the last time you could do that in a video game?
5) General wisdom is that cage matches used to be the thing that ended feuds, but this DVD tells a different story. There's cage matches here for Warrior and Savage, Andre and Hogan, and even Flair and Von Erich, and none of these were climaxes to those stories.
6) This kind of product is why they bought all those tape collections. The 2002 DVD had a few WCW matches on it, but only involving Flair. Surprisingly, Flair is in three of the matches on the new DVD.
7) Jericho is also in three, a guy not particularly known for his performances in cages.
8) If you put this list against the Elimination Chamber DVD, there have been like three times as many noteworthy EC matches in the last few years, showing you where WWE's preferences lie. The Elimination Chamber is usually a better match, but its name isn't, or ever will be, as cool as "steel cage," even though it is one.
9) The WWF blue cage is actually my second favourite cage. WCW's Wargames cage is my favourite, since its danger comes not from smoke and mirror intimindation but from obviously haphazard craftmanship.
10) Judging by the rate of steel cage matches to EC matches, we're likely to be the last generation of wrestling fans to see a basic steel cage match in regular rotation. And they say wrestling is getting more violent.
Soup of the day.

Every time they break a major piece of equipment on the set, I always wonder if it was about to die anyway and they wanted to give it a proper wrestling burial, like trophies, rings, and television monitors. The only way an inanimate object can leave the wrestling universe is by violent destruction.
