John 3:16 Book Tour Guest ~ Eddie Snipes
I'm excited to introduce today's guest, author Eddie Snipes! If you haven't met Mr. Snipes yet, you've been missing out ~ read on to see why...
Where are you right now (LVR, DR, Bathroom) and what are you wearing?
I am sitting in the basement, wearing a tutu, a beanie hat, and combat boots.
Many writers will say they see stories all around them. Is there any place unusual you've found a story?
I went in the back yard, looked under a rock, and there it was.
The story for my book came from an unusual place – a song. I don't know anyone else who has written a book from a song. I was at a meeting for the Atlanta Writers Club, and Tralena Walker spoke about storytelling in lyrics. It was interesting, but the gum stuck under the desk was still dominating my attention. Then she said those magical words. I know what you're thinking, but it had nothing to do with the donuts and coffee in the back. She said, "I've been looking for someone who will write a novel about this song."
I heard someone shout, "Incoming," but it was too late. It hit me and my head exploded with a bang. I scooped up the pieces and tried assembling my thoughts. Then I saw it. The whole plot of the book unfolded before my eyes. I spoke to her and wrote the book. She is thrilled with the final product, and for only 19.99 you can be too. Actually, the ebook is on sale for just .99 cents. If you act now, I'll throw in some laughter, tears, and four other emotions for no extra cost. Plus, free shipping on all ebooks! Where can you find a better deal?
What is your favorite part of writing? Did anyone inspire you to write or was this something you always wanted to do?
My favorite part of writing is when I pull out my hair and scream, "I can't do this!" Then I look up and realize that would be a great scene to put in my book. Inspiration comes from everywhere.
If you could be any character in any literary book who would you be and why?
It would be Will. I don't really know who will is, but every battle scene begins with the command, "Fire at Will." Anyone who is known so universally must be an interesting character.
What is something that very few people know about you?
My name is actually, Slardabardfast Zaphod Horendioushallitosis, but my friends call me Eddie for short.
What is your favorite material item that you own?
My kindle. I love being able to have books read to me while I'm driving. No one else has a text to audio option like the Kindle.
While you were writing, did you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
I feel the emotions of my characters, and I put a lot of my own life experiences in them, but I don't actually feel like I am a character. I do feel like I know them. And they won't leave me alone!
What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
I never dreamed of writing. Unless you are counting nightmares. Growing up, writing was something I avoided whenever possible. Let me tell you a true story.
In high school, I had a class that was dedicated to writing research papers. The entire class was dedicated to writing a 30 page research paper. I chose the Arms race between the US and Russia. We spent weeks in the library researching our topic. I say 'we' in the general sense. My research was sports and other useless browsing. At the halfway point, we had to turn in our research note cards. The teacher graded them and as she returned them, she said, "Some of you aren't going to pass this class." She paused in front of my desk as she said this, and then dropped my notecards on my desk. She continued, "You cannot write this paper with less than 70 research cards."
I counted my cards. Seven. A very weak seven. This information must have shocked my brain, for I didn't even think about this again until the teacher informed the class that the rough draft was due in the morning. "Holy cow! It's due tomorrow?" I said.
After school, I visited a few friends, ate dinner, and watched TV. It was now nearly bedtime. No more goofing off. I sat down and began to write. The information flowed. I clearly needed more research sources, so I interviewed military experts born mere minutes ago. But hey, Colonial Imagination was still a source. I wrote thirty pages – somehow. And I got a good grade in the class. After all, no one had more expert sources than I did.
I should have known then that writing was in my future, but it would be more than two decades before I discovered a passion for writing.
Do you have any upcoming appearances that you would like to share with us?
I'm going to be featured on all the major morning shows. Look in the crowds behind Al Roker. The top of the head you see is mine!
I was featured on The Christian Authors Show this week. I'll also be teaching class at the Catch The Wave writer's conference in September, and I magically appear at every Christian Authors Guild meeting, where I serve as president. Currently, I haven't scheduled anything new. I suppose that might be because I haven't asked. Or it could be a conspiracy to hold down the little guy.
Would you like to share a little about your current work in progress? Perhaps the first chapter of your book?
I'm just finishing a manuscript called Simple Faith. It's designed to teach the basics of walking in faith and is written for both the new believer, and for those who want to know how to experience God more fully. It will be available on most retailers shortly. I also provide free peeks into all my books with the Amazon look inside feature. From Amazon.com ~
For a moment, Michael danced on top of the world, but one bad choice turned his life upside down. The once promising Broadway star now washes windshields for tips and lives among the homeless. When his former dance partner recognizes him behind the fray of whiskers, shame drives him away from her. Angry at God and the world, the Dancer refuses to allow anyone into his life. When everything is stripped away, three things remain: faith, hope, and love. The greatest of these is love.
I Called Him Dancer is a story about how one woman's enduring faith and unconditional love drives her to reach out to a homeless man who has given up on life.
You can purchase 'Dancer', the song that inspired this book by visiting the MP3 store. Search for Tralena Walker or Dancer.

John 3:16 Book Tour ~ Ashley Wintters
Welcome to the Official Launch of the John 3:16 Adult Fiction Book Tour! Over the next few weeks, I'm going to introduce you to several excellent authors. My hope is that you'll find these interviews fun and interesting, and perhaps compelling enough to purchase the author's books. :)
To start off our tour, I'm glad to introduce to you Ashley Wintters, author of Shadows of Suspicion
Where are you right now (LVR, DR, Bathroom) and what are you wearing?
Lol, right now I'm sitting at my desk at work wearing jeans and a purple polo shirt.
What is one of the most interesting thingsyou've learned when researching a story?
Hmmm...that research takes a LOT more than I thought it ever would! I had envisioned just writing a fiction story and adding in a touch or two of detail but realistically the research is very important.
Many writers will say they see stories all around them. Is there any place unusual you've found a story?
My dreams. Shadows From The Past was mostly a crazy dream I had. The story played out in my mind and it was just wonderful to translate my dream on to paper for others to read.
What is your favorite part of writing? Did anyone inspire you to write or was this something you always wanted to do?
My favorite part is when the characters actually start coming to life for me. I write their descriptions and basic info but then, when I start talking about their hopes, dreams, feelings, etc they become real to me. I've always written stuff--anything from poems & songs to kids stories. I would have to say though, my mother actually inspired me to put it all on paper. She used to tell the most wonderful bedtime stories and I now wish I had them to read to my kids!
What do you do to unwind and relax?
I do a lot of different things depending on what mood I'm in. I usually run/walk a couple miles, but I also write (of course), cross-stitch, watch tv (that is mindless), clean house and just things like that :)
While you were writing, did you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
Oh all the time. My characters are so real to me, sometimes I think of them as real people. Since I'm writing their stories, a lot of times it feels like it becomes my own. If my characters are having a bad day, I am having a bad day, if they are happy, I'm happy, etc. The one I most connected with lately was Kerry in Shadows of Suspicion and she was struggling with understanding why God put certain obstacles in her way, well that was my way of working through a similar dilemma.
What are your expectations for your book?
I really don't know. I expect my family to read it and that's about all the expectation I have. My hope is that someone will read one of my books and it will touch them and God will speak to them through it.
What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
Well, having a published book, not to mention two, is a dream come true. Seeing my name on the cover was thrilling! It has opened several doors for me to share my faith and is a portal for me to really share God with the world and that is amazing!!
If you could leave your readers with one bit ofwisdom, what would you want it to be?
Trust God. He is the One that will never fail you!
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Honestly, no I don't think so. I love those characters and I believe Luke & Kerry's story was told fully. They have been filed away for me to revisit and update in my future books but I think their story unfolded as it was meant to.
Where can people find you?
My facebook page is www.facebook.com/authorashleydawn and my blog is http://ashleysbookshelf.blogspot.com.
You can buy my books on amazon.com or smashwords.com for $2.99 each
Would you like to share a little about your current work in progress? Perhaps the first chapter of your book?
My current work in progress is the next in my Shadows series and it's title is Shadows of Pain and here is a bit of the first chapter, I hope you enjoy :)
Shadows of Pain- Chapter 1 Excerpt Used With Permission
Revenge is the agenda... "Find my sister." Rick Reiley's words were what drove Luke to search mercilessly for Kerry. He is in a race against time to find her and will have to face more than a criminal mastermind to get close to her. He is prepared to give his life for her, but what about his heart? "...I would like you to meet....My wife." Those words from her enigmatic rescuer threw Kerry more than anything else that had happened to her in the last few days...and that was saying a lot! Kerry's simple life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped and dragged to the middle of nowhere by a madman. She trusts Luke with her life, but can she trust him with her heart? As Luke fights to keep Kerry safe, the chemistry ignites and the danger gets closer. Will God protect them while Luke tries to sort out his heart....and capture Kerry's?

Paul McDonnold, author of The Economics of Ego Surplus
*~*Announcement! The winner of the AMAZON.COM gift card is #68....April McKinnon! Congrats, April!*~*
**Remember! Starting July 3rd and running through August 22nd, we're having a John 3:16 Adult Fiction Book Tour, so check back each week for a chance to meet a new Christian author!**
I've had the pleasure of reading Mr. McDonnold's book, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised that a book about Economics was so good. You did a great job in capturing my interest and I thoroughly enjoyed it.Thank you, Mr. McDonnold for giving me the opportunity.
Available on Amazon.com
Tell us how you got started writing.
Thank you for having me Amanda. It's an unusual story. I've always loved reading, and got into writing as a teenager. But I didn't see it as a viable career option, so in college I majored in economics. After college I worked in business/financial type jobs, and began using my writing skills in these jobs more and more, until I eventually developed my own niche of being a freelance financial/economic writer. So studying something besides writing in college actually helped me (after a number of years) to become a writer. I followed my passion, but in a very circuitous route!
What is the hardest thing about writing? Easiest thing?
Getting the first draft done is hard, because sometimes I can tell it's not very good. You have to trust that you will be able to improve it in the revising. Preliminary research is probably what comes easiest to me, since I like to learn new things.
What piece of advice can you give to newer writers that you wish someone would have told you?
I would advise someone studying writing in college to consider taking on a second major in another field. Writers who understand finance or science or something can find a niche for their work where there is less competition.
How do you work your proofreading and edits? Do you do these as you go along, or after you've finished the whole book?
Both! Revise, revise, revise! That's the only way I know to achieve quality. I am also a big believer in the value of working with a professional editor, even if you have to hire one yourself.
How do you make time to write, market, and sell your books?
Go without sleep.
Do you ever get writer's block, and if you do, what do you do to get out of it?
I just keep writing through it, even if it means putting down ugly sentences. You can improve it during the revising.
What is one thing most people don't know about you?
That's a tough one! I guess that my best plot ideas come to me in the shower.
Here's my review:
Engaging? Entertaining? Interesting? You bet!
Watch as terrorists find a new horrific way to bring America to her knees. Mr. McDonnold used believable ways to introduce us to Economics, and tells his story in such a way, that it's my personal opinion that every high school student should read this to get a firm grasp on what economics actually is. I remember droning out my teacher during his lectures and now wish I had paid more attention. Great job, and I will have my children read this as a supplement during economics class.
Great job, Mr. McDonnold. I'll be watching for more books from you.

Constantine Codex by Dr. Paul Maier
The Constantine Codex
A shocking discovery throws Harvard professor Jonathan Weber into the international spotlight---and could change the way the world sees the Bible. While touring Greek and Turkish monasteries, he finds an ancient manuscript that includes a lost ending of Mark and a 67th book. When the codex is stolen, Jon races to recover it---before it's lost forever! Renowned church historian and novelist Dr. Paul Maier revives the beloved character Dr. Jonathan Weber (Skeleton in God's Closet, and More Than a Skeleton) to envision the lost ending to Mark...and a Second Acts. His seamless inclusion of canonical history into the suspenseful tale ensures readers come away with a greater understanding of the origins of Scripture and the lengths to which early Christians went to ensure the continuation of the gospel story throughout time.
My Thoughts ~Well, to be quite honest and forthright, this is not the book for me. I tried to get into the story, and I had to force myself to read it. Perhaps some others would find it agreeable and pleasant, but it failed to grab my attention and pull me in.

He Invited Himself to Dinner by Janet Perez Eckles
"Hey friend," I said on the phone. I love it when I don't have to introduce myself because certain friends who are close know my voice.
"Whatcha doing?" she asked.
"Just relaxing for a while as I do every Sunday afternoon," I said.
"You want some company?"
I would never, never turn down a friend who wants to visit with me. What a delight, what joy. Those moments are thrills of life that add color to our world.
My friend, who lives a few doors down, walked in my backyard. I moved over on the lounge chair for her to sit beside me. She settled in. We chatted, laughed and planned.
Sort of what Jesus wants us to do—have the time available for Him to sit beside us. To hear what's in our heart. For us to pour the painful details that sear. And to let us know His plans for the journey.
That's what Jesus wants. But it's not easy to comply. We're too busy. And rather than be still, spending sweet moments with Him, we observe Him from a distance like Zacchaeus did. He climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus because he was short in stature.
And we are, too. We live in a complicated, busy world, so although we're not short in stature, we're short in time. Short in commitment to His call. Short in desire. And oh very short to realize our need to be in His sweet presence.
But fueled by His boundless love, Jesus still calls us as He did with Zacchaeus. "When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "'Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.' So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly" (Luke 11:5-6).
Father, your invitation through your Son Jesus is clear, but I confess I've not stopped my hurried life enough to accept it. Grant me a heart that will spend time to sit by Him as He's my best companion, my best listener, my best counselor and divine friend. Amen.
• Who is your best friend these days?
• What does Jesus offer that most friends on earth don't?
• How does His Word bring answers to your difficulties and your heartache, and who loves you beyond the secrets no one knows?
