Daily Devotional Series: Genesis

by Kristi Burchfiel

Does a cup of coffee or an energy drink typically start your day? While that may wake you up physically, what are you doing each day to wake up spiritually? How do you find time in your busy, hectic schedule to focus on truth from God's word?

Kristi Burchfiel returns with the second book in The Daily Devotional Series. This book of devotionals through Genesis is designed to provide each day with a quick and simple devotion that can be read in less than 5 minutes. The devotionals focus on one truth from the Bible that a person can take with them, think about, and apply all day long. Each devotional includes the verse from the Bible, a truth from that verse, and a response to pray back to God.

The Daily Devotional Series: Genesis gives readers a brief introduction into using The Daily Devotional Series, a synopsis of the book of Genesis, and then fifty brief devotionals, one for each chapter in the book.

About Kristi Burchfiel

Kristi grew up in Valley Center, Kansas and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She has been married to her husband, D Burchfiel for 13 years, and they have 2 children, Rebekah and Andrew. They currently make their home in Wichita, Kansas where D is the pastor of Southwest Baptist Church. Kristi is the author of applicable Bible studies and devotionals including Without Regrets: A Study of Ecclesiastes and The Daily Devotional Series.

Georgia and Reviews

Here we are in Decatur, GA for the Decatur Book Festival that's going on this week, and let me tell you, this so far is pretty awesome.

Once we were past the traffic jams and we arrived at our hotel, we decided to relax a little. That's why I'm writing this post. Waiting on the hubster to say he's hungry.

On the trip down here, I spent the majority of that time reading. Oh the luxury of not being the driver! The book I was reading, Sell More Books by J. Steve Miller, is quite the awesome book. If you're an author and want to sell more books, look into this book. Well worth the money you invest in it.

But that's not what I wanted to talk about. If you've read my first novel, The Price of Trust and liked it, would you consider posting a review on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble? I would certainly appreciate it if you did that for me!

And, if you're down in Georgia and want to go to an awesome fstival, stop by the emerging authors pavilion Saturday morning around 10 am and listen to my speech. I'd love to see you there.

Remember the 9/11 Survivors!

The definition of victim is a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action. I am a victim of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. I worked on the 73rd floor and was still in Tower II on the 44th floor when the building was hit. I understand the unique challenges that survivors have endured. What will it take for people who walked away from the buildings but lost their lives to receive compassion and empathy? Survivors have been ignored. We have suffered mentally, physically and economically. We have had to relive the horrible experience daily for ten years while significant attention has been given to the deceased victim's families and first responders.

As a World Trade Center survivor, I have had a feeling that our country has had almost a decade of misplaced priorities. A war on terrorism with countries that did not bring so much pain to me, a crippled economy which still devastates so many families today and people, just like me, who have been all but forgotten in the fray. Ten years is a long time to be dead emotionally.

This is my public appeal. Please do not tell me that my life doesn't matter. Please do not ignore the fact that I have been victimized and I suffer to this day in vain. Please let me know that America cares about me. I am the survivor. I was in the building and I had to run for my life. I still have nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety and depression. Most importantly, I am one of thousands. September 11, 2001 affected us all but please don't penalize me because I can still breathe or I didn't run into a building but ran out for my safety. After ten years of suffering in silence, I simply want my life back!

This book 9/11/01 A Long Road Toward Recovery represents a survivor's story. During the month of September, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to www.tuesdayschildren.org for the being well/staying well program designed to specifically address the unique needs of a survivor. Please share my story, read our story and tell someone else that we are still standing!

A Family of Their Own ~ Book Review

a Love Inspired ~ Dreams Come True romance

Kelsey Rhodes wasn't looking for love. She was too busy, to say the least. But when handsome single father, Ross enters her life, she soon finds it wasn't by accident.

After his wife's death, Ross must handle the growing stress of his daughter's rampant emotions and heart disease on his own. A pre-teen on the cusp of womanhood, he wonders how he's going to make it without a woman's gentle guidance.

And Kelsey must fight her own demons. Years after her husband's infidelity and subsequent abandonment, she must struggle on her own and battle her daughter's brain tumors - trusting doesn't come easily when Ross steps into her life. With two very sick girls, is it wrong for them to hope for a future together? Or is this God's plan?

My thoughts ~

I enjoyed this book. Ms. Martin doesn't sugarcoat these girls' medical issues and paint them as little angels with no feelings or bad attitudes. They behave like regular pre-teens, complete with the rolling of the eyes and cattiness toward their peers. I especially enjoyed watching Ross teach Kelsey that not every man is going to behave as her ex husband did. The most difficult thing about the book was how Kelsey endeavored to forgive her scoundrel of a husband and it was difficult for me to read his attempt at a lame apology. However, the author did a great job in capturing Kelsey's struggle and the important lesson of forgiveness was there and believable.

One lonely mother. Two matchmaking kids. Three eligible bachelors and some very yummy apple pie…

Becky Callis is the widowed mother of two, trying to make ends meet. Moving to a new town, things get a little complicated when her mischievous children think she's been lonely far too long and try to take romantic matters into their own hands.

Scott Boone seems to be everything their mother could like. Handsome and friendly, Scott makes his interest in Becky clear ~ even though she's older. Is he the handsome, debonair cowboy Becky needs, or just a rake looking for another notch in his belt?

Jack and Becky have been friends since childhood. When they're reunited years after their lives have taken very different paths, this lonely preacher begins to wonder if God has brought her back into his life for a reason.

Pearce Morgan is a single parent raising his young daughter after his wife deserts them. Divorced and disillusioned, an unlikely friendship arises between him and Becky when his shy daughter decides she loves Becky and her kids.

True love is more complicated than it looks.

John 3:16 Book Tour Guest ~ Rose McCauley

Where are you right now (LVR, DR, Bathroom) and what are you wearing? You have to tell the truth. :)

RM: I'm in my dining room which is where my computer I write on is located. I am wearing worn out pink sweats and a white tee shirt with a picture of a pink rose on it and blue houseshoes with pink flowers on them! I can't believe I am color-coordinated and I didn't even try! It's nice to work at home and be comfortable and not have to plan what I am going to wear!

What is something that very few people know about you?

RM: I took violin lessons in second grade and played "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" in the end of the year recital, but have never done anything with it since!

What is your favorite material item that you own?

RM: My grandmother's Bible which my siblings passed on to me after our mother's death

What do you do to unwind and relax?

RM: walk, read, scrapbook, play free cell (but I limit myself to 2 games a day!)

What are your expectations for your book?

RM: This novella is a mostly happy, fun read. It also shares a Christmas tradition we did with our own family years ago. So, I hope it will encourage everyone who reads it to look at Christmas though the eyes of a child, and to inspire them to make Christmas better for others.

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?

RM: Having my first published fiction in this book is a dream come true, but another dream realized that I never thought of when first starting my writing journey was all the wonderful Christian authors I have met in person and how enriched my life has been from their writings and friendship and encouragment.

Do you have any upcoming appearances that you would like to share with us?

RM: I have several booksignings lined up for this fall. Two are very special to me. The first weekend in Nov. I will be travelling from KY to GA to sign books in the town in which my fictional story is set--Monticello, GA! Then the next weekend I will be signing at Portland Christian School in Louisville, KY, my alma mater!

If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be?

RM: To let God help you lose yourself in others instead of dwelling on yourself.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

RM: I don't think so, due to the wonderful critique partners and editor I have.

Do you remember how your interest in writing originated?

RM: I've always loved reading and writing and was editor of my HS newspaper. I also loved to make up stories and act them out with dolls and paperdolls, so now I do it with words on paper!

Would you like to share a little about your current work in progress?

RM: It is based on a true story I heard a revival minister mention about ten years ago, so it has really stuck with me! Perhaps the first chapter of your book?

Where can people find you?

RM: I am on Facebook, and have a website www.rosemccauley.com and blog www.rosemccauley.blogspot.com I hope all reading this will stop by for a visit!

Friends, Rose has graciously offered a signed book to one lucky winner! Only thing is, you won't get your book until September. As soon as they are in her hands, she'll get yours out! Leave a comment for your chance to win!
