neil-gaiman:

Mike Dringenberg on Cinamon Hadley

I’ve seen a few people on Social Media being upset on behalf of Cinamon Hadley, who was Mike Dringenberg’s friend and the first of his models for Death, feeling that casting Kirby as Death was somehow disrespectful to the memory of Cinamon. I asked Mike what he thought about this, and about the announcement.

This was his reply:

Hey remember when US and Russia was all like “We’re the best!!! We’ve won the space race!!!!” But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like “…..wait no that can’t be true” and still have the audacity to call us “underdeveloped” or only view us as a ‘third world country’? :)

For anyone who needs more info, the probe was called Mangalyaan (which literally means space probe vehicle) or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and you can also get more information here and here

Remember when NYT mocked India for this very thing and an TOI (a major indian newspaper) responded with this? :)

They were being racist asf and we were till respectful literally fuck you if you think ‘third world counties’ can’t be better than you

white people can and should reblog this

and shout out to the women engineers integral to the launch

“Indian staff from the Indian Space Research Organisation celebrate after the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft entered Mars’s orbit.

On November 5, 2013, a rocket launched toward Mars. It was India’s first interplanetary mission, Mangalyaan, and a terrific gamble. Only 40 percent of missions sent to Mars by major space organizations—NASA, Russia’s, Japan’s, or China’s—had ever been a success. No space organization had succeeded on its first attempt. What’s more, India’s space organization, ISRO, had very little funding: while NASA’s Mars probe, Maven, cost $651 million, the budget for this mission was $74 million.

This was not the only success of the mission. An image of the scientists celebrating in the mission control room went viral. Girls in India and beyond gained new heroes: the kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.”

there’s a movie adaptation of this! it’s obviously more dramatized/they use different names but i really really loved the movie! it’s called mission mangal and it was the first time i had heard of this and i was so surprised that literally? no one talked about it??? what they accomplished is incredible.

ALSO, Mangalyaan launched in 2013 and was meant to be a 6 month mission. It’s been in orbit around Mars now for more than 5 years and has enough propellant to keep going for even longer.

“The kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.”

FUCK YES. THIS IS THE TYPE OF REPRESENTATION I’VE BEEN HERE FOR!!

I love how the dudes at back are pure happy!!

hello! I don’t know if anyone has already made a post about this before, but I just stumbled upon this app made specifically for when you’ve gone into a nonverbal anxiety attack!!!

it was made by Jeroen De Busser who is an autistic computer science student.

the app is really easy to use! all you do is open it and hand your phone to someone you need to communicate with during an attack but physically cannot, and it shows this cool little alert for the person to read, and then it takes them to an easy to use chat (that looks a lot like texting! except both of you are communicating using the same device).

the alert message is completely customizable and you can have it say whatever you need!

the app is called Emergency Chat and it’s available in the Apple Store and google play store.

I highly recommend it to anyone who might need it :)

OH MY GOD?!?!?? BOOST

That’s so bootiful!

thank you so much for this because i never know what to do when i cant talk to people and they just start trying to ask me questions and its really hard to force myself to say i cant talk and stuff. im definately getting this right now

WHAT?

Also this app can be used for WAY more than nonverbal meltdowns! Its great for all sorts of things. Of you’re deaf, have asthma, dissociation, panic attacks, if you’re mute, if you have any other medical or mental problems that make verbal communication difficult or imposible!

Sometimes I go semi-verbal and I’m definitely going to download this app to use for when tht happens. This is an amazing idea! Wish I had heard of it sooner.

as a semiverbal autistic……. this app is BLESSED

Prrr ño me gusta las crisis de ansiedad

STEEPLE returns to the web/ VOLUME 2 due August 17th from @darkhorsecomics

Steeple returns on Monday with a new 2-part story, “AUTHOR UNKNOWN?”, a crossover with Charlotte Grote of BAD MACHINERY and WICKED THINGS. Patreon subscribers (at the $3 and up tiers) will be able to read part 1 in full then, or you can enjoy it at webcomic pace on the website for the next 14 weeks. Following that, I have a four-part story in the works, a third “season” if you like with a…
