We went to a Vietnamese restaurant with no Vietnamese coffee, then a cafe that gives you free lunch after ten coffees.

Spot The Evil Twin # 4
The weekly STET is brought to you by Brewhuh. Jaime Urquijo Zobel of the Philippine national men's rugby team, and TV star James Van Der Beek, who was Dawson on Dawson's Creek. When I think about it, we can actually do face-mathics with James and Jaime and another Dawson's Creek alum, Joshua Jackson a.k.a. Pacey. [...]

The War and Peace Reading Support Group week 2: Pierre has just inherited a LOT of money and Andrei is off to war.
We're doing Russian Lit so we're supposed to be in a solemn, profound, cerebral sort of state, but I have to say: War and Peace is so badass! How to survive V-Day (updated)
1. Watch Jason Statham in The Mechanic. "They don't even have to think of titles for his movies," Ernie marvels. "They could just call them Jason Statham 1, Jason Statham 2, and so on." "Or Jason Statham Kills People 1, 2, 3. . ." There was a recent article, 16 Worst Ways To Be Killed [...]

The Weekly LitWit Challenge 4.8: No More Food.
Violent protests across the global South, in response to rocketing food prices from 2006 to 2008, highlighted an intrinsic flaw in the modern system of world trade—one that poses a serious threat to regional and international stability. In The Food Wars, Walden Bello traces the evolution of this crisis, examining its eruption in Mexico, Africa, [...]

The Winner of LitWit Challenge 4.6: Write us a sonnet is. . .
chosen by our guest judge, poet and teacher Danton Remoto. In third place, a tie. An Impossible Puzzle by Jara, a wry piece on handicrafts produced by prisoners—ships held captive inside "tombs of glass"—which leads to a meditation on the nature of Art. To Miss Piggy by Askaniclan, a witty take on the popular muppet [...]

Congratulations, Egypt! Learn from our mistakes.
In Egypt, Now Comes the Hard Part by Jeffrey Goldberg in The Atlantic The Egyptian people have won a startling and historic victory. It is perhaps the most difficult thing in the world to do, to force a Pharaoh from the palace, but they did it, and without bombs. Now, though, comes a series of [...]
