Retired Eastern Air Lines Pilots Feature ‘Captain’

The Retired Eastern Air Lines Pilots Association has graciously given the aviation theme/action-adventure thriller ‘Captain’ a full page featured spot in their quarterly publication! They join several other retired airline employee groups who have provided ‘Captain’ with a featured space in their print and online publications. Here is a copy of that full-page display!

‘My Devotional Thoughts’ website/blog reviews Captain

While it is always satisfying to get positive reviews, the ones that particularly get our attention are where the reviewer saw and commented on many of the same characteristics of the story that we were specifically trying to build when the novel Captain was being created. Here is a review from the website and blog “My Devotional Thoughts”, which can be found at www.mydevotionalthoughts.com, and a Facebook site of the same name.

Author Nelson DeMille August Newsletter

For the fans of my very good friend author Nelson DeMille, I’m sure that some of you have already seen the Nelson DeMille August newsletter, which just came out today. He announced that The Panther was finished (but most of you who come to our website and/or read my own newsletter already knew that, since I had already ‘let the panther out of the bag’ a short while ago). Once again, Nelson mentioned my newest novel ‘Captain’, for which I am most grateful (Nels tells me that I owe him some mon...

On a Book Tour: A good Author Interview

I’ve done a great many book tours over the years, including a few radio/TV/newspaper mega-tours that included not only most of the U.S., but also England, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand. Different parts of these tours have run the range from great to horrible, although the overall experience was always memorable! Now, in the era of Internet, so much is done online and book tours are no exception. For Captain, we’ve launched with several online venues that have included book reviews, give...

Particular Reviews

It is so enormously heartening to get the sort of feedback that I’ve been getting these past few months. While almost all the reviews of Captain have been quite positive (naturally, there have been those scattered few who have said this novel wasn’t what they were looking for; that’s to be expected and since I know up front that no one person can be all things to all people, I try not to get hung up on those minority opinions). What gets a novelist’s full attention are those reviews where the...

Author Interview: “The First 7500 Words”

Here is an online Author Interview that appeared on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the site “The First 7500 Words”. They have an interesting format wherein they read only the first 7500 words of a novel to see if it ‘grabs’ the reader in several categories (characters, plot, potential, etc) since most readers will only give a book so many pages to get their full attention. The site had done a review of Captain the week before (you can see it on this site, under Media Reviews, or go directly to the...

Captain Reader Survey

Captain Reader Survey

Author Thomas Block

Since we were very interested in the audience impressions of the new novel Captain, we elected to create a short online reader survey so that we could get some specific feedback information from the readers and the readers could get some ‘inside information’ on the creation of the novel. The survey is designed to be interesting, enjoyable and quick to finish!

There are 18 multiple choice questions that will ask the reader about their feelings toward the...

Reality imitates art: US Airways Flight and the novel ‘Captain’

Reality Imitates Art: US Airways Flight and the novel Captain

In a display of reality imitating art, on May 8, 2012, a US Airways flight from Dublin to Charlotte (Flight 725), using a Boeing 757, was at just about the middle of the North Atlantic ocean crossing when the aircraft’s right engine unexpectedly went into a full overspeed condition – and beyond! Because of all that extra and unwanted engine power, the aircraft’s airspeed immediately jumped to a high number (.84 mach) and would have...

Nelson DeMille talks about ‘Captain’ in his June newsletter.

June 1, 2012

I’m very pleased to be able to report that my very close friend author Nelson DeMille (my co-author on ‘Mayday’ that was revised in 1997, reissued and eventually became the CBS Movie of the Week in October, 2005) has talked about my new novel ‘Captain’ in his June newsletter. Here is an excerpt from that post to all Nelson DeMille fans:

“………..Moving right along, my childhood friend, Thomas Block, has written a novel titled Captain. Tom, as you may know, was my co-author on Mayday,...
