My relationship with Nelson DeMille

My life-long relationship with Author Nelson DeMille
by Thomas Block

Two authors celebrating the finishing of a chapter in the next novel (Late Fall of 2010).

Neither one of us is counting it up any longer, but since readers will probably want a number I’ll cipher one for you: as of today, Nelson DeMille and I have been close friends for slightly more than 62 years. Matter of fact, we both learned the beginning skills of reading and writing at precisely the same time. We sat next to each other i...

Sad Day at Our Ranch

It was a very sad day at the ranch on Sunday, October 21, 2012:our beloved horse Mister Cloud died.

Cloud was an extremely friendly horse. He had fabulous and delightful mannerisms and a big heart – he would do whatever we asked of him. Cloud was the leader of our herd (until his medical conditions caused him to yield that role to a younger, bigger horse a few years ago) and it was always a joy watching him take the ‘herd leader’ chores quite seriously as he maneuvered various horses this way...

Nelson DeMille’s “The Panther” mentions “Captain”

With Nelson DeMille’s newest novel “The Panther” just being released, we are really thrilled with what Nelson said about us and “Captain” on the acknowledgement page. Here is that extract:

Nelson DeMille Acknowledgement in “The Panther”

“Many of my novels have benefited from the assistance of my childhood friend Thomas Block, US Airways Captain (retired), columnist and contributing editor to aviation magazines, and co-author with me of Mayday, as well as the author of seven other novels. Althou...

FLYING Magazine’s Captain Les Abend reviews ‘Captain’

When Thomas Block retired from airline flying in April, 2000, not too long after that he also retired from his position as Contributing Editor for FLYING Magazine (the world’s largest circulation aviation magazine), a position he held for over 20 years. Replacing him was Captain Les Abend (American Airlines). Captain Abend has now read ‘Captain’, and here are his comments:

Les Abend’s Review of “Captain.”

Cowboy Mounted Shooters endorse ‘Captain’

September, 2012

Arriving at Murfreesboro for the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Eastern Championships, we were VERY pleased to see that the CMSA Magazine – which had come out just a few days earlier – had run a very positive review of the novel ‘Captain’.

Phil Spangenberger, the Editor of ‘The Rundown’, gave Captain nearly a full page in his review; here is one excerpt:

“I have to admit that while normally not one to read fiction, I found this story to be fascinating – I couldn’t put it down!”

Take a lo...

‘Captain’ Video Trailer

Video Trailer for ‘Captain’

The Internet has changed our world in countless ways, and it has certainly made an enormous impact on everything to do with the writing and the marketing of novels. With it, we can be in a real-time connection with most anyplace and m...
