Thanks to all the giveaway entrants
I'm relatively new to Goodreads. I don't know if I've been living in a hobbit hole for the past few years or what, but I can't believe that a writer and confirmed bookworm like myself could have taken so long to discover this wonderful place.
But I have, I love it, and it came at just the right moment in my creative life, as I had just finished my first indie book,
. Normally, I am a glacially slow writer, but everything about this book was different from the start. I quite literally woke up one morning—I can even specify the date, March 19th—with the Muse commanding me to write this book. "No, it's a lame idea," I protested, but she was having none of that. I felt this compulsion every morning to sit down at my desk and write...and write and write and write, for hours on end. In three days I had churned out 12,000 words. For me, that's astonishing.
I decided that this was the book that I had been looking for—the book with which to dip my toe into the perilous waters of independent publishing—and so next I had to teach myself everything I could about that process. I will save the particulars of that story for a once-and-future blog post.
For now, all I'll say is that I found Goodreads just as I was about to publish my book, and I'm delighted that I did. Because I was able to launch my book giveaway, which netted a fantastic 465 entrants. Wow! Thank you all for entering, and for putting Spontaneous Combustion: A Writer's Primer for Creative Revival on your to-read lists. I wish I could have given away copies to all of you, but congratulations to the five lucky winners. I hope by now you have received your copies, which I mailed June 12th. [Please PM me here on Goodreads if you haven't and I'll make it right.]
I just hope that all of you who read this book will find in it the inspiration you need to turn back to your own writing with new fire and resolve.
That's what I'm about to do now: get back to work on the next chapter of my middle grade novel, a twist on ghost stories.
