Augmented Reality: Photoshop glasses

*Pure design-fiction — a witty lampoon, actually — but this is what most people would envision as some fullblown, real-deal "Augmented Reality."

*Clearly this scheme is a living hell. I'd rather face Lovecraft's invisible monsters.

*Good job on the "Koolhaas ice cream," ladies.

More from Ponoko

*I don't run every press release I get from these Ponoko guys, but everybody who knows anything about fabrication knows that scaling up fabbing has always been a big deal. A thousand fabricators are lot more than a thousand times one lonely fabricator.

*Got a fabbing strategic alliance here. Hmmmm.

Human Antenna by Florian Kräutli

*Eindhoven design-student project. Has nothing to do with augmented reality. Kind of gorgeous. Nice choice of a model.

*Via Yanko, and, really, who else.

Augmented Reality: Papervision3D wormhole

*Nothing much to advance the mighty AR field here, but I'm liking that it's so fast, zero-cost, useless and completely head-trippy. Just straight outta Philip K. Dick, where you pick up a piece of paper and oops, Martian time-slip.

*You ever read Lovecraft's "From Beyond"? All Augmented Reality geeks should have a good look at "From Beyond."

Bletchley Park as slowpunk

*Gosh, dead media, atemporality, stuffed animals, culture-industry, ancient analog computers, this latest thing from CTHEORY is like a catalog of BEYOND THE BEYOND riffs.

Augmented Reality: Sekaicamera demo

*This slick Japanese AR interface is so out-there that it might as well be from the Galapagos Islands, but check out that Tonchidot guy. He's got to be the best-looking guy in the industry. That hair, and check out that short-sleeved off-pink hoodie. All AR guys should be wearing those garments. It'd make 'em easier to spot.

*And are the locals going for it? Yeah, they are:

Exploring nearness

*Just cut to the chase and give them the Nobel, that's what I say.

http://www.nearfield.org/2009/09/nearness

"One of the essential properties of Near Field Communication is nearness, but this is set against one of the paradoxes of touch-based interaction where, in fact, nothing needs to touch. In a very short film made with BERG, we explore nearness in interactive technologies."
