Adopt An Older Dog- Great Choice For Pet Parents
No one can avoid the sheer appeal of a puppy, their curious expressions, snugly cuddly faces and wiggly squirmy little bodies.
Kids interviewed for this book said that having an animal friends was their Number one self-soothing skill. See www.ArtichokePress.com for more info.
But behind this cuteness is a multitude of challenges. There are different challenges in an older dog. But, it is so important to have a pet that will offer unconditional love and acceptance to family members.
Deciding to share your home with a cutie dog is a step towards a wonderful experience. So, why don’t you take the next step which is adopting an older dog? There are many dogs waiting for you to invite them into your home. They will repay you with so much love and devotion.
Adopting an Older Dog
With an older dog, non-stop curious energy and puppy faces are gone. They developed a sense of self, maturity and a sort of wisdom. Older dos are like a basketball glove, conditioned, relaxed and ready to play the later innings in this game of life. They are already trained and require a less attention too.
People have hesitation in adopting an older dog for many different reasons:
• They won’t get along with the new family
• They won’t be fun
• They are stubborn
• They will have expensive medical bills
These myths about adopting an older dog are dispelled easily because of the dose of reality or with the time spend with the older dogs.
Try to visit a local rescue group or an animal shelter and you will notice that most of the dogs that are available are the older ones. The reason is not because they are un-trained, difficult or unwell. The disappointing reality is that people move, change their lives and the puppy bought for a child was left behind and became inconvenience for busy parents and teenagers.
Life Spans of different breeds

She also focuses on personal issues like anxiety, depression, confidence and self-esteem and works with many small and large organizations–from Head Start to child care resource centers.
Judy has owned and managed numerous small businesses, and her entrepreneurial experiences as a mother of six and a stay-at-home-mom is what prompted the National Association of Home-Based Moms (NAHBM) invite her to join their expert advisory council.
The symbol of the artichoke has great meaning for Judy in her teaching and writing. As she works with families, she sees that frequently only the outer edges are exposed, which can be prickly and sometimes bitter to the taste. But, as you expose the artichoke and people to warmth, caring, and time, gradually the leaves begin to open and expose the real treasure–the heart.
The artichoke also became a teaching lesson when Judy, as a young military mother, moved her family into military housing in California to find a surprising collection of artichokes planted in their yard. Knowing it takes two years for the vegetable to grow, Judy realized the original gardener never saw the fruits of their labor, but planted the artichokes anyway. Judy was reminded by this experience that many times in life our actions toward others are felt by people we will never meet, but we plant the seeds of kindness anyway.
You will enjoy Judy’s approachable manner, wonderful storytelling and common-sense solutions gleaned from working with hundreds of families and organizations just like yours. Your encounter with Judy will leave you feeling inspired, entertained, and especially motivated.

Mean Girls & Tough Boys–Bullying At Any Age (EXPERT)
Bullying can best be defined as an imbalance of power. Whenever there is an imbalance of power or strength that is either real or perceived there is a potential for the greater power to intentionally threaten or harm the weaker one. This power struggles usually takes place over a sustained period of time and has the potential to escalate into violence.
Find tips for helping empower your child at cyberbullyinghelp.com
There have always been tough boys and mean girls all over the world who have enjoyed teasing, taunting and making life miserable for other kids. But now, with more electronic media readily available through the use of cell phones and the Internet, bullying has become more dangerous, more devious and often more difficult to detect.
We used to think bullying could begin at any age but, typically it begins to escalate around the third grade, peaking by about eighth grade and tapering off in high school. We are now finding bullying often starts earlier and lasts much longer. The combination of cyberspace and bullies can be a dangerous combination. The escalation of cyber-bullying can range from mild teasing to death threats.
An Example of Tough Boys
For example: on Wednesday Tom pushes Craig in the lunchroom and calls him a racist name. Craig, who is feeling emotionally strong with his friends sitting at the table, handles it by replying “When you say something so stupid, it just reinforces everyone’s image of you as a bigot.”
Craig’s friends laugh as Tom slams his water bottle on the table and walks off. Problem solved, not quite.
Friday as the boys are in the locker room preparing for soccer practice, Tom notices Craig is now alone. Without Craig’s friends around Tom feel more powerful leading Tom to accidentally push Craig into a locker. Tom then takes Craig’s soccer shorts and puts them in the toilet. Tom adds some fuel to the fire by testing the other players on the team telling them Craig has wet his pants and requests they pass the message on to everyone they know.
When Craig arrives for practise everyone is laughing at him, and making comments. Craig now feels more vulnerable because he is the smallest boy on the team. So, this teasing, taunting and belittling has a profound effect on him today.
When Craig finally gets up enough courage to tell someone what is happening to him the coach he speaks to brushes off Craig’s concerns with a comment about boys being boys.
Craig has been bullied twice in this scenario. Were these incidents all part of the jockeying for position in a social group?
Bullying Is A Catch-All Phrase
Bullying is a catch-all phrase which encompasses taunting, teasing, jeering, threatening, kicking, shoving, and physically assaulting others.
Indirect bullying, or more commonly ‘bystander bullying” is when one child or a group of children intentionally ignore a bullying incident, exclude, or shun another child or group of children without ever having a physical altercation.
This type of bullying often has the same devastating effect as a physical assault.
Ass you can see, bullying is a problem affecting families and individuals all over the world. You will want to claim your free report on Internet Safety at http://www.Cyberbullyinghelp.com

Sex Offender Allowed To Be Guardian Of Young Girls (EXPERT)
ARE YOU KIDDING? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Yes, I am yelling! I cannot believe the courts would actually allow a known sexual offender become the guardian of two young girls. This particular predator in Stevensville, Montana has
Caring adults should protect and nurture the young and innocent. See www.ArtichokePress.com for more information.
been taking indecent liberties with children since at least 1980 even though the records keep getting lost and the cases falling through the cracks.
Thanks to Perry Backus, who wrote the article about the young 11 year old girl giving birth to Mikael Shane Pruett’s child. Yes, you read that right. It is a child giving birth to a child. The victim did not even know she was pregnant because she “didn’t know what pregnant felt like.”
As caring adults, we are grateful for the work of Bill Fulbright and Judge Langton who have assured this monster manipulator will be given a sentence of 200 years in prison. Is it too late for the young girls who have been sentenced to a confusing tragedy of knowing who to trust in life.
Why didn’t someone help them? Where were the teachers, neighbors, landlords, or relatives? Didn’t any of the girl’s friends mention to parents that something wasn’t right in that house? Were there any visits by CPS?
Had a 12 year old child hit the 11 year old girl on the arm while they were on the playground, there would have been an uproar about bullying. Perhaps there would be PTA meetings, mandatory bullying training, neighborhood outcry. SO WHY ISN’T THIS WORTHY OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT TO CORRECT CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE?
We came together when a young man was killed recently or when a family’s home is burned or to cheer at football games. Then we better come together to make sure the innocent children are protected and valued. Hopefully, this will be a wake up call to all of us, it certainly has been for us.
Signed,

Does My Son Have An Eating Disorder?
How Can I Tell If My Son Has An Eating Disorder?
The issue of eating disorders is often discussed in the context of teenage girls. Schools and the wider media promote the vigilance of parents in watching what their daughters are eating and ensuring that they don’t succumb to the peer pressure often experienced amongst teenage female peer groups to become too slim and for this to become a problematic mental health disorder. 42% of 1st-3rd grade girls want to be thinner and approximately 25% of elementary school girls are regularly on a diet to control their weight.

that need to be addressed. However what is much less widely reported is the rise of eating disorders amongst teenage boys in recent years. It is now suggested that as many as one in ten instances of eating disorders involve young men
[2] and according to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), 10 million men in the United States will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives.
The Signs of Eating Disorders in Young Men
Recognising the signs of eating disorders in young men is often much more difficult than diagnosing the same disorders in young women. This is because in men eating disorders revolve less around solely restrictive diets and are often focused on sport and athletic performance. Research has found that many male eating disorders begin relatively innocently with the goal of reaching a certain weight in order to qualify for the right wrestling or swimming team. In some men this can quickly lead to what is being dubbed as “the Adonis complex”:
[3] a desire to have the perfect muscular frame that leads to eating a severely restricted diet in order to achieve it.
[4] So what exactly should you be looking for? The signs of an eating disorder in teenage boys or in young men can vary wildly from case to case but are likely to include; social withdrawal, a commitment to excessive exercise above and beyond any interest in exercise they have shown before and making frequent trips to the bathroom, particularly right after they have a meal or eat anything with the family.
If you’re not sure if your child may be suffering with an eating disorder then your first step should be to look for physical clues. These are likely to include extreme weight loss, an obsession with food portion size and an obsessive interest in what you are cooking or preparing for their evening meal so that they can calorie count.
TELL-TALE SIGNS OF EATING DISORDERS
You can also check their personal effects to see if they are hiding and using laxatives, diuretics, or enemas: all common tools used by both anorexics and bulimics to encourage extra weight loss. Finally, pay particular attention to the clothes your son is wearing: do his clothes look baggy? Is he choosing to wearing baggier clothes than he might normally to hide a much more slender physique? These are all key tell-tale signs of an eating disorder amongst young men.
Treatment For Male Eating Disorders
There is a tendency to both consider and dismiss eating disorders as being a feminine issue, but this can be very dangerous. In instances where young men are suffering with eating disorders this dismissal can emasculate them and leave them feeling ashamed of their mental health problem and reluctant to talk about it for fear of being perceived as being ‘unmanly’ or as suffering from a ‘women’s disease’. However no matter how strong a young man considers himself to be, if he is suffering with an eating disorder then he does need the help of a qualified medical professional. There are several different treatment options available to those suffering from an eating disorder.
(5)These include: In patient rehabilitation, medical intervention and family therapy. The treatment plan that is right for you and your son will depend on the severity of his illness. Remember that there is no shame in visiting your doctor and asking for help. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness in the United States right now, so the sooner you can get your son the professional help he needs, the better.

What Should Be First Foods For Babies?
First Foods for Babies
Parents should be aware of the fact that breast feeding
Raising Smart & Kind Kids-Baby Years. Teach them empathy & kindness. Available at http://www.ArtichokePress.com
ensures best growth and development of the baby for the first 6 months. It also protects the baby from diarrhea and respiratory infections. First foods should be introduced to your baby only after his 6 months. Training your baby to eat his first foods may seem a tough task in the beginning but still, it is not astrophysics. Training your baby in accepting his first foods is a fun and thrilling experience. Read on to learn more about your baby’s first foods.
Prepare your own baby food
Preparing the baby food at home not only saves money but also maintains freshness. It is safe for your baby to eat. Always label the foods you have prepared. Include the details of the contents as pureed foods may be similar and difficult to identify. Labeling ensures healthy and balanced nutrition to your baby.
Recommended age for introducing solid foods
Your baby should be at least 6 months old to accept solid foods. Young babies find it difficult to swallow as they have poorly developed throat and tongue muscles. Early feeding may also result in obesity. If your baby is offered the food before six months, he may push it out with his tongue.
This reflex starts disappearing when the baby is 6 months old.
Best way to offer foods
To begin with, offer solid foods an hour or so after breast feeding or formula feeding. Your baby relishes mashed foods and finger foods. Start feeding your baby 2 to 3 times a day. With the gradual increase in consuming solid food, the baby drinks less milk.
Choose one ingredient at a time in preparing the food. Avoid feeding cereals or solids in bottles. Mix the cereals with breast milk to get the required consistency. Your baby may refuse to eat the food in the beginning but don’t panic, continue to feed him the foods in smaller portions.
Don’t force him to gulp the food as this may end up in mess. Use sterilized equipments in feeding your baby. Use rubber spoons as this may not harm the delicate gums of your baby. Stick to a particular time of the day in serving your baby.
Fruits and veggies
Once your baby has started accepting cereals, move on to offer him fresh skinless fruits and cooked veggies that are finely sliced. Provide sips of water in a cup after the food so that it is easily digested. Juices if at all offered must be home made. When the baby is 9 months old, you can start offering him unsalted cottage cheese, yogurt, well-cooked meat and egg in smaller amounts.
Make him comfortable
Some babies love to eat sitting on mother’s lap while others enjoy the food sitting in a chair. Accompany your child in eating as you are the role model. Never offer him the foods such as popcorn, peanuts, hard veggies or candies that cause choking.
Avoid sodium rich meals. Wait until your baby is a year old to offer him the citrus fruits so as to minimize the risk of allergies. The eating habits you have trained at this early stage will last longer. Your baby is less likely to become a picky eater later on.

8 Easy Tips For A Green Home & Family
With all of the concerns about global warming and the effect we are having on the environment, it is naturally becoming important to more and more people to live greener lives. All of us want to have a green home and family but are not sure what to do first.
We want to do our part in sustainable living and making our communities better places to live and work.
Our homes should be like apprentice shops of how to live and function in the world around us. The home our children live in will hopefully become the first place they are taught to respect and honor the precious resources of the Earth. Since home is the place where we spend the majority of our time teaching each other, it makes sense to instill respect for all people, places, and things as we go about our lives.
Kids love to be a part of keeping Mother Earth green and flourishing. Teach them to compost the leaves after they rake, jump in and have fun with them.
8 Easy Green Things To Do In Your Home
• Cut way down on use of disposable paper. Use cloth napkins (we buy packages of cotton terry washcloths when they are on sale)
• Read the ingredient list on the back on the bottles of cleaners, lotions, shampoos etc. the fewer ingredients, the better for you and for the landfill.
• Use phosphate-free detergent and if possible avoid chlorine bleach. Try vineager instead. It works great.
• Flush the toilet less often. My grandpa said the saying in the depression was “If it is brown, flush it down, if it is yellow, let it mellow.”
• Take short showers instead of long baths.
• Turn off lights when you are not in the room. We have installed dimmer switches.
• Avoid disposable items, such as disposable cameras, razors etc.
• When you do laundry, use a warm water wash and a cold rinse.
• Use natural fibers for clothes and household lines instead of permanent press and no iron materials.
Many Ways To Love Mother Earth
There are many things we can do to assist our families in becoming responsible, caring citizens of the earth. Having a Green home and family is easy and fun to do and makes a better world.
Quiz For Your Family
We recycle our aluminum cans?
We compost our food scraps (but not meat)?
We walk as many places as possible?
We reduce, re-use, & re-cyle?
How Did Your Family Do? Can You Do More?
