The Particular Charm of Miss Jane Austen by Ada Bright and Cass Grafton

My deeper relationship with Austen began when I was in college. We were reading Persuasion in a Romantic Literature class (the first and only time I encountered Austen on a syllabus), and I began to imagine Anne Elliot walking beside me across campus or sitting in a lecture hall, and what she might have to say about our modern world. First Impressions Birthday Giveaway

Yay! Today is my first baby's birthday! Seven years ago, I published my first book, First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice. I wrote it very quickly, with no idea I would ever publish. It was really, in conception, more of a reaction to the world of JAFF than a new story. I had only recently found and immersed myself in the world of Austenesque literature, and it was only when I

The Rise and Fall of an Empire (Waist), today at Austen Authors

I'm up this month at Austen Authors today (3/24/17) - boy, I sure need to provide this blog with some original material, and not just keep crossposting, as I have so far all year. It's on the to do list, but first comes processing the beta comments on Darcy in Wonderland, which have been coming in all week. I hope to have the book out this summer. More info in the post below. Enjoy!

Six Best Austen Quotes, today at Austen Authors

This is my post for 1/24/17 at Austen Authors:

My laptop is on the verge of death and unbearable to use, and I am praying for the new one's daily arrival. Coping with a distorted screen and often unresponsive keyboard, I attempted to write about the politics behind the empire waisted gown, but the subject proved too complex to pursue amidst the technical complication, and I abandoned it in

The Seduction of the Waltz, today at Austen Authors

So the holidays lasted a little longer than they were supposed to. Unfortunately, I'm not posting original material here today, but rather turning your attention to my latest Austen Authors post. The Seduction of the Waltz was inspired by my time in Vienna over the New Year. I had a lot of fun putting this together:

Thomas Rowlandson's frontispiece for "A Selection of Most Admired and

How far have we come? Princess Charlotte's death in childbirth

Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales
by George Dawe, oil on canvas, 1817

I'm not going to devote the time this topic deserves. That's more of a promise to myself than anything else, but I have been inspired to speak on the subject, and I will do so, even if I do not go as deep as the topic warrants.

I spoke not long ago of Princess Charlotte of Wales when I was sharing my adventures in London

Come join me today at Austen Authors for my post, A Craft Regency Christmas. Here's the beginning of the post. Follow the link for more.

Wheew! I just wrapped up the NaNoWriMo madness, and now it’s time to bring on the holidays!

I can’t help but get crafty at this time each year. My fingers seem to literally itch for a needle and thread, a pile of scrapbooking supplies, or whatever else I’ve

NaNo Update: My parody of Carroll's parody of 'The Sluggard" by Isaac Watts

Just popping in to share a but of fun I've been having with my NaNoWriMo story, Darcy in Wonderland. I'm just under 35,000 words as I write this, a bit behind after a crazy viral thing that took me down for four full days last week, but still on track to finish 50,000 words before the end of the month. Some of the hardest earned words in those 35,000 are my responses to the many poems Lewis

Winner of Darcy By Any Other Name and NaNoWriMo

It is National Novel Writing month, so I am unlikely to be blogging much. This is unfortunate as I still haven't finished traveling my late summer travels with you. Look for pictures of Bath around Christmas.

Before I disappear, I must announce the winner of one copy of Darcy By Any Other Name donated by the gracious author, Laura Hile. Ya da da da da da! And the winner is: Anonymous #1.
