Giveaway Winner and "Mystery Lady" Revealed!

Thanks to all who entered the giveaway! I had a wonderful time reading all your comments, laughing a great deal. I had thought only one or two ladies were possibilities for "Wickham's Mystery Lady", as she has been dubbed, and you all proved to me how very narrow minded I was. Fourteen people entered, and the answers were all over the place. Charlotte Lucas was by far the character whose fate

I'm a "Blogger Buddy" at Fly High

Please visit Maria Grazia's Fly High, where I was interviewed as part of her "My Blogger Buddies" series! I reveal some embarrassing personal information and you can enter a giveaway to win a copy of First Impressions by leaving a comment before April 12th. This is the first time I've ever been interviewed (except for jobs), so it has been very exciting for me. It was also nice to speak about

My Dear Charlotte by Hazel Holt

I have never read any of the "cozy" mysteries Hazel Holt is famous for, but I had to be intrigued by My Dear Charlotte, written "with the assistance of Jane Austen's letters." An epistolary novel told via the pen of Miss Elinor Cowper (writing to her sister Charlotte), Ms. Holt weaves a murder mystery and a romance amongst details of the daily lives of the fictional residence of Lyme Regis (

Pride and Prejudice Janeicillin: Part One

I have long suffered from a most annoying ailment that I call please-don't-let-this-be-the-last-pageitis. The disorder kicks in whenever I reach the end of a particularly satisfying book, usually resulting in my turning back to page one and starting to read it all over again. But relief is on the way for, at long last, after many failed attempts, I have finally succeeded in manufacturing a cure.

First Impressions Published!

O.K.! You can now actually buy First Impressions on Amazon! Barnes and Nobel still hasn't gotten the book listed, but Amazon has copies in stock and ready to ship! No image of the book is yet posted, but still! In a few days (hopefully), I will receive my first round of author's copies in the mail! I'm so excited. Now I just have to wait around with bated breath for reviews to come in. I feel

First Impressions Animated Scene 2

As if it wasn't bad enough to have already wasted one day in this manner, I have now wasted the better part of a second at XtraNormal, all to bring you another jilted, Lego rendition of a scene from my book. It's just too much fun, even though the results are less than overwhelming. The following is actually a bit edited (you know, film adaptations must always be given some leeway), so I have

Published? Maybe?

So this is where the self-publishing world gets frustrating. Today I finally received the long awaited "Your Book Has Been Published" email from Outskirts Press, but you can't actually buy the book yet. Furthermore, I have absolutely no notion when it will actually be available. In limbo I continue to wait, wondering when I will finally get the darn thing in my hands. The thing is, if I go to the

Sexy JAFF: A Conversation with Lory Lilian

Back in January, after reading and commenting on Mary Simonsen's interview with Lory Lilian, the author of Rainy Days and Remembrance of the Past, I began an email conversation with this latter lady in which we discussed the prevalence of sex in Austen fan fiction. I have some pretty strong feelings on this issue and had used what was theoretically supposed to be a review of Remembrance of the

Epistolary Fan Fiction: Letters From Pemberley and More Letters From Pemberley by Jane Dawkins

So I am currently reading My Dear Charlotte by Hazel Holt, an epistolary mystery that makes free use of quotes from Jane Austen's letters, and it has gotten me thinking about Austen's use of the epistolary form and the temptation it poses for writers of JAFF. We know one of Austen's biggest influences, Samuel Richardson, was something of the king of the epistolary novel, and that she frequently
