Young Wickham: Part Five

PART ONE / PART TWO / PART THREE / PART FOUR

George awoke the next morning after a night of
dreamless repose, a gift to the exhausted, but though refreshed and energetic,
he did not immediately arise. Lying on his back, enveloped in the most
comfortable bed in which he had ever slept, he gazed around at the fineroom
which would now be considered his own. Very little in his life had ever been

Young Wickham: Part Four

PART ONE / PART TWO / PART THREE

Following the best dinner in which he had ever
partaken, and which he thankfully managed to survive without making any major etiquette
blunders, George was called into Mr. Darcy’s study for a private conversation
with his aunt and uncle. The latter’s rigid formality intimidated George, but
he was determined not to let his behavior betray that fact and

NaNoWriMo 2018: Tales of Less Pride and Prejudice!!!

Announcing my NaNoWriMo novel for 2018! Da da da da! Tales of Less Pride and Prejudice. Yes, that's the name of the blog, as well as the name of the trilogy that comprises my first three novels: First Impressions, Second Glances, and Holidays at Pemberley, or Third Encounters. The paperbacks are now out of print and, though still available for Kindle, all three stories are badly in need of proper

Twisted Austen 2018! Young Wickham

Oh, wow! This is super last minute. Somehow or other, I have managed to finish this story in time for Twisted Austen to start (on time!) on October 23rd. This year's story is, as always, a bit of a brain tease. It's called Young Wickham, is a Pride & Prejudice/Mansfield Park mashup, and will certainly defy your expectations. I can't wait to hear what readers think!

As usual, the story will be

Strange Beauty Secrets from the Late 18th/Early 19th Centuries, Today at Austen Authors

Originally posted at AustenAuthors.net.

While posting my Twisted Austen story, I am Lady Catherine, back in October, I received a lot of comments regarding a reference to an 18th century beauty treatment called pigeon water. This is indeed a real thing, used by none other than Marie Antoinette, who was said to have bathed her face in it every day. I hunted down the recipe for its preparation in

Jane Austen and Babies, Today at Austen Authors

Posted originally at AustenAuthors.net.

I'm writing this in advance, but if all goes as planned, my new son will have been born two days ago (at 8:13 AM on the 27th, a healthy 22 inches long and nearly 9 and a half pounds!). As I prepare to welcome the newest member of the family, our very own Baby New Year, my mind inevitably turns to what Jane Austen had to say on the subject. Though not a
