Publication Day for BROWN BOTTLE

I’m hbrownbottle_blue (2)appy to announce that my debut novel Brown Bottle is now available for purchase. For now, Amazon is the best route to take in getting a copy. There is a print edition and a Kindle edition you can pick up there.

I have Advanced Reading Copies on hand for those who might be interested in reviewing the book. Contact me and I’ll fix you up.

Below are the Amazon links for the novel in both formats and also a link where you can add it on Goodreads. Thanks to Lori Hettler, there will be a Brown Bottle giveaway launched through The Next Best Book Club there at Goodreads this spring.

My short story included in Larry Fessenden’s wendigo-themed collection Sudden Storm

sudden-storm-a-wendigo-reader-01

Entertainment Weekly is talking about Larry Fessenden’s new collection Sudden Storm: A Wendigo Reader.

I have a story, originally published at Change Seven Magazine, called “The Story of the Wendigo” in this book, published by the one and only Fiddleblack.

Many many thanks to both Fessenden and Fiddleblack editor Jason Cook for reaching out and asking that my story be included. That was very cool of both of them.

Preorder a copy of the Sudden Storm: A Wendigo Reader.

If you’re interested, here’s the link to the EW article.

“The Ugly Cry” nominated for Best Small Fictions 2016

I tell with perfect honesty that my heart is spilling over with gratitude this past week. On the heels of a wonderful interview with Steph Post, I’ve learned this morning that my short story “The Ugly Cry” published last year at Blue Five Notebook has been nominated for Best Small Fictions 2016.

The nominating editors – Michelle Elvy and Sam Rasnake – are amazing people and amazing writers and poets in their own right. I swear my heart’s just swelled with thanks for both of them. I’m nearly speechless with the amount of love this week from my friends and talented colleagues.

Should you be interested in having a look at “The Ugly Cry” read the story here. It was published as one of five stories Blue Five published of mine as the featured author that month, so you’ll need to scroll down the page to find the story. Or read them all. Better yet, read as much of Blue Five Notebook as you can while there. Bookmark it. Visit it often.

Author Steph Post interviews me about Brown Bottle

Since first getting to know author and superstar Steph Post, I have been a fan of her work and I’m grateful that she has also been more than supportive of my own. She is the author of the novel A Tree Born Crooked, and, of course, you should go now and buy this book. It’s a great read – truthful, gritty, expertly written.

You would be hard pressed to find a writer who is a bigger fan of other people’s work. She is tireless and, more importantly, perfectly genuine with her support. I’m so fortunate to know her.

Check out our talk, and take a look around her fine website. There’s a lot of good to be found there.

Early praise from Rusty Barnes

brownbottle_blue (2)“Brown Bottle, by Sheldon Lee Compton, is a bottleneck blues of a novel, played at midnight, harsh, unsparing, and real as hell. Brown Bottle the man is also someone you won’t forget. His story has emotional and moral weight. You won’t read a better novel this year.”

– Rusty Barnes, author of Ridgerunner

Brown Bottle news: Cover reveal

brownbottle_blue (2)

Ryan W. Bradley recently finished up design work for the front cover of my upcoming novel Brown Bottle. I love it.

Ryan designed the cover to my second book Where Alligators Sleep and I wouldn’t mind if he designed every book I ever publish.

Brown Bottle is due out in early February.
