THE REDDENING: COUNTDOWN. DAY 2. PUBLICATION OCTOBER 31ST.
“Before the building’s jagged silhouette she’d gazed as if hypnotised by a place of worship, where the god was still present. An improperly secured cap, that’s what the building was. A fragile canopy above a pit so deep she could imagine an abyss carrying on for ever, through the earth and back through the ages.”

THE REDDENING: COUNTDOWN TO PUBLICATION (OCTOBER 31ST). DAY ONE.
The setting and ideas for my new novel pretty much came out of the coastal landscape of South Devon that I’ve been walking, kayaking and swimming over the past five years.
So I’ve decided to count down each day until publication with a selection of some of the hundreds of pictures that I have taken while on the move, supplementing them with spoiler-free quotes.
The locations in the story are all inspired by actual places, though the particular stretch of coastline from Brickburgh to Divilmouth (pronounced Dillmuth) is of my own invention. At least I hope it doesn’t exist and that I never stumble upon it . . .
“And at that moment, out of the very land and water, came a piercing light. Not a warm, golden light, nor the soft seaside light of Torbay that she’d driven through to reach the guesthouse in Divilmouth. Nor was it similar to the bitter white light of the north she’d known as a student in Lancashire. The light here was white-silver and pewter, like it marked a passage into another world or time. At its most concentrated and brightest, where spikes of sunlight pierced the cloud canopy, the light struck the battleship grey of the sea like a welding torch, becoming too strong to look into with unprotected eyes.
So there was magic here and beauty. Amidst her discomforts she managed to acknowledge this. This place was not idyllic, but here was a raw and wild beauty, one that inspired awe. Lincoln had used that very word. Here, right here, he’d found something special.
As soon as it appeared, the brief, silvery glare out at sea was swallowed by cloud.
The wind and sky changed everything, constantly: the colours, the temperature, the light and her perspective of how far she’d come and how far she had to walk.”

THE UK GHOST STORY FESTIVAL – I’M A GUEST AUTHOR!
And here’s what’s happening at the UK Ghost Story Festival in Derby end of November.
Along with Andrew Michael Hurley, Laura Purcell and many others, I’ll be haunting the corridors, cafe and rooms of the Quad . . . or now that my projections and bilocations have advanced to the higher levels, will it purely be a hideous apparition of me that is glimpsed?
THIS IS HORROR: SHORT INTERVIEW ABOUT THE REDDENING.
I share a few words here with This is Horror on the red horrors rising in Brickburgh.
Published October 31st.
TAUNTON HORROR CON OCTOBER 27TH
Some pics of my little corner at Bristol Comic Con & Gaming Festival from the weekend. I have to get every book on a 6ft table, so have built upwards with my new racking.
If anyone is in the neighbourhood, I will also be appearing at a Horrorcon in Taunton (Somerset, UK) this weekend too, with the full rig.
THE REDDENING REVIEWED AT NIGHTWORMS
Some advanced reviews for The Reddening are coming in. Cracker here from Mindi at Night Worms:
“I enjoyed this book so much and cannot recommend it enough to all horror-loving readers. Pick this one up for the gore, high tension, and superb writing.”
We salute her with all four hooves!

CLIMATE ACTION WEEK – LOST GIRL.
The Society of Authors has put out a call to writers to do something for Climate Action Week, so I feel justified mentioning this novel of mine.
Right now, beyond Lost Girl, I don’t have much more to add to this subject and crisis. Though the story is set in 2053, some of my imagined catastrophes appear to have already occurred since I wrote the book, others feel like moments away, not decades. I’m no Nostradamus – all of the information I used for research and inspiration is out there, readily available, much of it for decades. Perhaps it may prove to be our greatest tragedy: we always knew.
Anyway, I’m not sure I’ve written a more horrifying horror novel and The Red Father still walks out there … always looking to tell his story to new readers.

THE REDDENING BY ADAM NEVILL- THREE EDITIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER.
Three editions of THE REDDENING are now available for pre-order, and each edition jacket/cover has a different composition. The paperback edition is available to order widely through online stores and high street bookshops. All bricks & mortar book shops & stores will let you order a copy if it’s not in stock. Some bookshops did stock the two collections but as I don’t offer sale-or-return or withering discounts, I cannot guarantee the paperback will be on the shelves where you’ve found my previous novels. Best to order at the counter or go online.

The eBook edition is available for pre-order exclusively through Amazon and I have added the eBook to Kindle Unlimited too.
I’m about to start promoting the limited edition hardback further afield as well as releasing orders to the trade. As I’ll always offer newsletter subscribers the opportunity to seize a copy first, and as the 400 print-run has been reduced to around 100 copies now, get in quick if you’re planning on picking up the hardback. The fulfilment process has begun for the newsletter subscriber’s orders and each book will be carefully packed. The postmaster has been informed and we’ll take bulging mail sacks to the post office three times each week from now, to deliver Halloween as early as we can to Ritual Limited customers. I beg a little patience as some orders will arrive earlier than others, depending on territory and local postal services. But no order will be overlooked and we’ll send the books screaming across the earth as soon as we feasibly can from now until the publication date.
Each HARDBACK book comes with a Ritual Limited tear-proof bookmark, also limited to 400 copies. The hardback edition has been created to a high design and printing specifications and has been printed by TJ International. It’s a handsome Demy-size edition with head/tail bands and foil blocking on the spine. This time around, instead of a signed postcard, I will sign each limited edition book on the half-title page, so please specify in the drop down menu on the order page if you only want an author signature, or personalized to your shipping name. If the book is a gift, and needs to be signed for someone else, please drop us a line at rituallimitedshop@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request. The book weighs in at 407 pages, near twice the length of Hasty for the Dark, but we’re holding the price at £25 + p&p.
The official publication date for the novel is October 31st 2019, but we will endeavour to get hardback copies shipped ahead of publication date.
THE REDDENING
One million years of evolution didn’t change our nature. Nor did it bury the horrors predating civilisation. Ancient rites, old deities and savage ways can reappear in the places you least expect.
The Reddening is an epic story of folk and prehistoric horrors, written by the author of The Ritual, Last Days, No One Gets Out Alive and the three times winner of The August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel.
ENGLISH RIVIERA LITERARY WALK (TORBAY) – ADAM NEVILL INCLUSION.
Surprised but flattered that I’ve been included on the English Riviera Literary Walk Map, and by the looks of it, between Darwin & Beatrix Potter. Batting way out of my league here, though my inclusion may be a veiled warning not to walk the bits that I do in case misfortune should befall a walker, or in case they are followed by something too thin and indistinct to be classed as still living …
THE REDDENING – AN UNCANNY COINCIDENCE …
You write a novel about an ancient abattoir discovered in Devon, and then a local university discovers an ancient abattoir in Devon . . . 6 miles from where you live.
Adam, don’t meddle with dark things you don’t understand … How many times must you be told.
Just sayin’.
