Authors and books that make me happy

I love to read and I like all types of books. As a writer, I'm always interested in what other writers are writing. I guess actors like to watch other actors and plumbers like watching other plumbers..."Hey, did you see how Bob used his crescent wrench on the Johnson job?"

Having recently written a western, (RATTLER, a Pinnacle paperback), for the past few months I was reading westerns, exclusively. Guaranteed thrills come from AJ Fenady, Johnny Boggs, William Johnstone and Dusty Richards. On my TO READ list is, THE BIG FIFTY, by Boggs and the WAGONS WEST series by various authors. All of Fenady's westerns read like a movie (he's a producer). When I sit down to read AJ, I get me a box of pop corn, Rasinettes and a big orange drink. I just finished reading, TEXAS BLOOD FEUD by Dusty Richards...and there will probably be a sequel...I hope. If you want to see how to fill the hollow man and create unforgettable characters, read Johnny Boggs. Also, I recently read THE BLOOD OF BASS TILLMAN, by Cotton Smith and THIS OLD BILL, by Lauren Estleman. Those two are a combination of a lot of the above.

Moving east, I enjoy anything by Stuart Woods, Vince Flynn and John Lutz. CHIEFS, a mini-series in the early 80's was based on Woods' book of the same title. The series was great, the book was better. (Isn't it always?)

Flynn, Phillip Margolin, Lisa Gardner, Stephen Cannell and Jackie Collins have not put out a book that I haven't read. Hopefully, I'll be able to say the same for Lutz, James Patterson, Jeffrey Deaver and Janet Evanovich...someday.

I am so far behind on my reading. I have not read a lot of authors who have been around for years. I am currently reading, ON THE GRIND, by Cannell and at the same time, I'm reading NIGHT VICTIMS, by Lutz. I have not read any of the 2010 releases of all authors mentioned here.

When I grow up, I want to be just like the following characters...Stone Barrington (Woods), Mitch Rapp (Flynn), Big Ike (Fenady) and a male version of Stephanie Plum (although my wife would probably prefer Ranger) Evanovich.

Riding into the sunset now...
