Ingram Premiere Pick!

Yesterday I learned MOB RULES will be an Ingram Premiere Pick for July. Ingram is a book distributor that services both independent booksellers and libraries. As a premiere pick, advance copies of the book will be sent along with a promotional letter to Ingram's 200 largest libraries.

Thanks to Patty Farr at Harlequin Enterprises and the program committee at Ingram for making this possible!

Realms of Fantasy

Suckage. As some of you know, my wonderful agent's day job is fiction editor at Realms of Fantasy magazine. She's a great editor, and it's a great magazine. It's a great magazine that needs more subscribers. If you don't have a subscription, go get some. If you do, renew. I just did. Neither of us will regret it.

Online Stalking

I stalk myself online. I suspect it's something a lot of new writers do, mostly because some of them admit it when they're drunk. Today, Google alerted me to a tweet from the SF&F buyer at Barnes & Noble. It went something like this:

Just finishing Cameron Haley's book Mob Rules and it's really good.

Okay, it went exactly like that. Who knew there was such great content on Twitter? What have I been missing? So, yeah, I'm on Twitter now, and I have a whole new social network in which to stalk...

Cover: Mob Rules

The cover of MOB RULES is final, and I've updated the image on the main page. Timothy Bradstreet did the artwork, and I've been a big fan of his work for twenty years. I think both the art and the design of the cover captures the world very nicely. Here's the full spread…

Retribution

No, I haven't been punished, richly deserved or otherwise. Retribution is the title of the Domino Riley novella I announced recently. The story is complete, and I've received revision notes from my editor, so I'm busy whipping it into shape.

Retribution will appear in an anthology called HARVEST MOON, alongside stories from Mercedes Lackey and Michelle Sagara. Obviously, I'm honored my story will be in such esteemed company.

Retribution takes place prior to the events in MOB RULES. Domino...

Novella

Today I signed a contract for a Domino Riley novella that will appear in an anthology to be published by LUNA around the same time as MOB RULES is released. The book will be headlined by a couple bestselling authors — I won't say who they are because I'm not sure it's finalized, but I'll be in good company.

Hopefully, this will give readers another chance to discover the series, and I'm really excited about it. Big thanks to my editor and agent for making it happen!

Kindle Love

Polls about ereaders and ebooks seem to be popping up on the industry blogs (see this and that). Here's one data point: I purchased a Kindle 2 last spring. Since then, I've read more books than in any stretch since I was in school, and all of them have been ebooks. I haven't regretted a single one of those purchases, because I was able to sample each of them at my leisure ahead of time and make sure it was something I'd enjoy.

I was previously quite skeptical about ebook readers, but I'm...

Postapalooza

Using the dark necromantic rites of Google's cache feature, I've resurrected a couple posts from the original version of this blog. They're both attempts to talk about my approach to Mob Rules and to urban fantasy as a genre, so I'm glad I was able to recover them. Enjoy!
