Young Adult Writers Love Reviews From Young Adults
Do you know that most of the book reviews given to all books for Picture Books, Middle Grade Fiction, and Young Adult novels are mainly from - adults?Well just read through the reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million and like - most places.
Since I write mainly Young Adult and Middle Grade, I make it my business to drum up local beta reader groups within the age range. My cousins, nieces, nephews, friend's kids, my daughters book club and local schools have beta read some of my work.
I make this effort because they are my intended audience. However, when I read my numourous reviews (of which I may add I'm extremely grateful for by reviewers on the online websites or even magazines who've reviewed my books) the reviews are from the point of view of adults.
SO REMEMBER when writing Middle Grade, Picture Books, or even Young Adult ... that you have two audiences. You have the youth in which you have to keep engaged, interested, excited about your story, and the adults that review your book from an adult prospective with a less forgiving view point on plot, purpose, message, and direction of story.

Snow White & the Huntsman - Movie Review
Let's say I'm a fairytale lover. I saw Mirror Mirror and it didn't put the Snow White damper on me to stop me from seeing Snow White and The Huntsman.
Fandango's Blurb:
In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Sam Spruell, Ian McShane - Director: Rupert Sanders
My Review:
Hummmm. The good, Charlize Theron - stole-the-show! Dang she scared me. Beauty, evil, cunning all wrapped up into a queenly package. Then there was Snow White - eh, I just had a few beefs with her. Like, how did she learn all those fighting skills in such a short time? And Kristen Stewart's rally speech - *hand in face*. But with all the little ticks of her role as Snow White ... I still enjoyed it but maybe not as much as I personally hoped to. If you love the Snow White tale like I do, then you'll be able to sit through this pleasantly because of the special effects, the evil queen's presence and well hope that Snow White will win the day. You know what? All of that happened, just a bit differently than the original fairytale. I give this 3 out of 5 swords.

PROMETHEUS - Movie Review
I've always loved the movie Aliens, the first one stayed forever imprinted in my mind as one of the first really good space thriller/horror movies of all times.
Well Prometheus upped it a notch.
I MDb: Blurb:
A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Director:
My Review:
Wow! Talk about world building. This movie had one of the best space sets I've seen in awhile. Not to mention Charlize Theron who again stole the show. This woman can act her tail off. But she had competition with Noomi Rapace who plaid an awesome role to rival Sigourney Weaver's debut in Aliens. Okay, I told you about the awesome set, now to the thrill ride of the movie. The pros were the set, the tension and the special affects - wow! The alien was impressive. But there were things that ticked me off with thrillers and horror flicks. One, why did the head scientist 'Noomi Rapace' had the nerve to say while they are on their way into unknown territory in space, 'We don't need weapons for a scientific expedition' - wrong! This made no sense since even on archeological digs they have weapons is needed in the country they are going into is hostile. The other thing that got under my skin was, they actually listened to her and didn't take weapons. In addition, when the they go onto the planet - then into a cave they take off their mask. Why would anyone do that?! Okay, so that's the only issue I had with the plot. It was a wobbly one, but the suspense, the thrill, the scenery and the special effects made up for it. I give this baby, a 4 out of 5 alien rating.LM Preston (www.lmpreston.com) , author of THE PACK, EXPLORER X-Alpha and BANDITS

Daemons in the Mist - by Alicia 'Kat' Dillman
I'm so happy to participate in Daemons In The Mist, by Alicia 'Kat' Dillman's Blog tour.
About Daemons In The Mist
Daemons in the MistFinally getting the girl of your dreams; what could possibly go wrong?
Seventeen year old Patrick Connolly has been hopelessly infatuated with Nualla for years but he is all but invisible to her. Until, that is, he rescues her from a confrontation with her ex. Little does Patrick know he’s just set off a dangerous chain reaction that will thrust him into a world of life altering secrets and things that shouldn’t exist, because the fog and mist of San Francisco is concealing more than just buildings.
A deliriously captivating and exhilarating romantic roller coaster full of unexpected twists and an ending you won’t see coming.
INTERVIEW with Alicia 'Kat' Dillman
1. What is your favorite piece of clothing in your closet right now?
It’s a toss-up between my super-tight black pencil skirt and the Doctor Who shirt I got for my birthday. Though together with my big black stompy army boots it’s a pretty kickass outfit.
2. What's your guilty pleasure?I have an obsession with miniature stuffed animals. I don’t really need them, but they are so cute and soft I can’t help but buy them. Some are the normal kinds, kitties and sheep, but others are really unusual like a periwinkle alpaca or a saber-toothed cat we named Chompy McChomp Chomps. My fiance just gives me this look every time I get a new one because there are about 36 of them already in the studio.
3. Please share something quirky about yourself?I write non-linearly, which means I write the sections that come to mind first and then piece together and transition the sections together at the end. I do this both in my novel writing and my blog posts.
4. If not an author, what would you have been?Probably what I do for my day job. By day I’m an illustrator and book designer. If I couldn’t be that either well… alpaca rancher?
5. Is there any moment in your life you’d like to relive?Probably the moment when my fiance asked me to marry him. It’s one of those moments you imagine a millions times but to actually have it happen, well it stops your heart for a second or two.
6. What’s your favorite imaginary place to visit? You mean aside from the worlds I created? If I had to pick another creator’s world it would have to be the world of Harry Potter. You have no idea how badly I want to go to the World of Harry Potter park in Florida.
7. What’s your favorite fairytale? Have you ever thought of re-doing it?I can only pick one? You really have no idea how many fairytale books I own, it’s one of the strange things I collect, well that and miniature stuffed animals. But if I had to pick, I’d say my top two favorites are the Velveteen Rabbit and Beauty and the Beast. The later is the basis for a novel I am currently working on called Into the Woods. It started out as a mock book cover I did for my senior project at the Academy but due to demand from my fans, I’m developing it into a YA novel. It’s Beauty and the Beast but with an interesting twist.
8. When you get stuck writing, how do you unglue yourself?I switch projects or mediums. If I’m stuck on a particular book I switch to another, or bounce ideas off my fiance. If that doesn’t work, I switch to an illustration or manga script. If all else fails, I go watch a movie or an episode of one of my favorite tv shows or anime, that usually fixes the block.
9. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating Daemons in the Mist?I had to look up and research a lot of things for Daemons in the Mist, from how long a broken arm takes to heal to electronic paper. But the most interesting was probably how retro-viruses work.
10. What would you like to tell your readers? To my future readers, I hope that I have and will create worlds for you that extend outside the page. That the characters will stop being characters in a book and start being people; friends you might meet on the street.
Daemons in the MistWhen fate throws you the one thing you have always wanted, you grab hold of it and never let go.

My New Summer Read - Flutter Of Luv
Just in case you want to get your summer beach read on, check out my new ebook baby, Flutter Of Luv by LM Preston.
Dawn, the neighborhood tomboy, is happy to be her best friend’s shadow. Acceptance comes from playing football after school with the guys on the block while hiding safely behind her glasses, braces, and boyish ways. But Tony moves in, becomes the star Running Back on her school’s football team, and changes her world and her view of herself forever.
This is a short story told in ten episodes similar to an anthology of short stories over the course of Dawn’s and Tony’s realization of how much they mean to one another.
Also there is a short story at the end called Hush A Bye My Baby Brother for the reader to enjoy along with samples of LM Preston’s other book.

BEA is Rockin'
Eating with Kidlit group and smiling with 'thedomesticceo', Amanda Thomas
Oh, and BTW, if you can't go to BEA don't feel bad, join in the fun below:
FREE BOOKS FOR REVIEW!
You, the reader
When you read a good book, you want to tell people about it! But aside from trying to convince your friend that they’re really going to like this random book you just found, what can you, as a reader, do to help an author?
How To Help
Word of mouth is of course really helpful, but did you know that just by leaving a review, you can make a book more visible to other readers? The review can be on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, your blog, Goodreads, Shelfari, it doesn’t matter. If it’s where readers can find it, you’re helping. The more times a book shows up on the internet, the more people hear about it.
You can click the “like” button at the top of the book’s Amazon page, or the “Tags People Associate with This Product” at the bottom of the page. These help the book come up in search results and the “Readers Who Bought...” section.
You can also tweet about the book, mention it on facebook or Google+, or request the book at your local library or bookstore (if it’s in paperback).
The Good Stuff
The Boost a Book authors have some great fans and we know you all do some of these things already. So as a thank you, we’d like to offer some free ebooks. And, as an added bonus, we think it’d be fun to offer more books and more contest entries for each book you boost.
So grab your free entry below (starting June 1) for a chance to win a free ebook from one of our Boost a Book authors. And if you want to discover even more new authors (by winning free ebooks) you can let us know how you've boosted a book and get extra entries.

Men In Black III - Movie Review
I really couldn't wait to see this one! I even took the entire family.
This is my favorite poster for the movie!
Here's the Villain, scared the crap out of my kids and kinda freaked me out.
Blurb: Agent J travels in time to MIB's early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history.
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld, Writers: Etan Cohen, Lowell Cunningham, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin
My Review:
Well it started off pretty good. The villain was scary, I jumped several times when he was on the screen. Okay, I don't know if it was scary or just plain creepy, but the kids and I were both freaked out. Will was lighthearted and humorous as usual. Then it happens, Tommy Lee disappears. The mystery unfolds and the ride begins. Will goes back in time, he meets a celestial being that guides him. There is some quirky scenes that make me smile but not crack up laughing. And there's even a little tear jerker moment at the end (I won't give it away but it made me tear up and explained Will's relationship with Tommy). It was good family fun for kids that can get past the scary alien. We all agreed it was a 4 out of 5 squishy aliens.LM Preston (www.lmpreston.com) , author of THE PACK, EXPLORER X-Alpha and BANDITS

It was good family fun for kids that can get past the scary alien. We all agreed it was a 4 out of 5 squishy aliens.LM Preston (www.lmpreston.com) , author of THE PACK, EXPLORER X-Alpha and BANDITS

BATTLESHIP - Movie Review
Through all this promotion of books I have been going to the movies and bursting with the need to review the latest ones. Well I'm behind on my movie reviews and will be sharing them with you over the next few days.
Fandango Blurb:
Hasbro's strategic board game gets a sci-fi facelift with this Universal Pictures production from director Peter Berg. The action will pit a small fleet of naval ships against an alien force intent on enriching Earth's valuable assets to ensure their survival. Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine) and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard star alongside Liam Neeson, Rihanna, and Brooklyn Decker.
My Review:
Well let's just say I wasn't disappointed. Great special effects, okay story line, and lots of action. This one was a pleasant surprise. Of course I loved seeing Alexander Skarsgard my long time crush and he played a decent role, one not to distant from his persona on recent work. But he wasn't in the movie for the long haul. Rihanna did a pretty decent job. Also, there were a few laughs and some tension with buildup. Overall a movie that my family and I thought was entertaining. We collectively gave it a 3 out of 5 battleships. LM Preston (www.lmpreston.com) , author of THE PACK, EXPLORER X-Alpha and BANDITS
