SURPRISED BY GRACE - Elizabeth Sherrill - One Free Ebook

Bio: Elizabeth Sherrill is the author behind the classic best sellers The Hiding Place about Corrie ten Boom, The Cross and the Switchblade about David Wilkerson, and God's Smuggler about Brother Andrew. She also is a longtime contributor to America's best-loved inspirational magazine Guideposts, and best-selling devotional, Daily Guideposts.
Welcome, Elizabeth. What would you like for our readers to know about you personally?I grew up in a purely secular environment, didn’t glimpse the possibility of a spiritual realm until my 30’s, started writing Christian stories long before I was a Christian (it was the only work I could find.) Surprised by Grace is the story of how I grew – slowly! – into faith and commitment.
Tell us about your family.John and I celebrated our 66th anniversary in December, 2013. We have three children – two sons and a daughter -- eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. We remain a close-knit family which involves a lot of traveling: from Portland, Maine, to Portland, Oregon, Boston to Miami, DeKalb, Illinois, to Nashville, Tennessee.
Have you written other nonfiction books? About 20, among them The Hiding Place, The Cross and the Switchblade, and God’s Smuggler.
I read those three decades ago. Do you have any other books in the works right now?Not at the moment. My work has mostly been and remains magazine writing.
What kinds of hobbies and leisure activities do you enjoy?Travel and study – mostly art, literature, and history. We love getting into a car with no destination and simWhy did you write the featured book? I’ll copy here the preface to Surprised by Grace , which addressed this question.Never say never!
“Never” is what I said, many years ago, when Guideposts editor Van Varner suggested a book “telling your own story.” Van had known me, he pointed out, back when I thought of God as a long-outmoded myth.  “Today, God is at the center of your life. That’s quite a journey! Why don’t you write about it?”
Why not? Because my faith was a private matter!            I know now that my emphatic Never to Van was part of the door between me and the world that I write about in Surprised by Grace . My whole world was constructed on the insistence that I was different. Since I “wasn’t like others”, how could my experience interest anyone else? Van kept at it, though, bringing up “your book” -- that wholly imaginary volume -- every year or so.
It wasn’t Van, however, who finally changed my mind, but people I’ve never met. Over the years I’d written, always reluctantly, three or four short articles about my own life. Not going too deep, sort of one-toe-in-the-water. To my surprise, the articles drew responses from readers, each of whom had been convinced that her experience, or his experience, was unlike anyone else’s. “You’ve written my story!” the letters said, over and over.
The article that brought the most mail was about my struggle with depression. That most lonely and isolating experience brought remarkably similar confessions from across the country, men and women, young and old. All of us, apparently, in the black pit of that blackest place, had felt that no one else had ever experienced what we did. And the relief that these correspondents felt in recognizing themselves in my story, was stunningly evident.
Unique? Unlike anyone else? Of course I was. And so was every other person. Each of us God’s individual, unrepeatable creation. But obviously with much to say to each other! I began to wonder what else my life might have to communicate. I started pulling out notebooks, diaries, trip logs, faded photos.
It was two letters in 1999 that finally got me to my word processor. One was from a mother in the mid-west whose son had been sent home from college after locking himself in his dorm room for a week, asking if I’d written anything else about depression. “I gave him your Guideposts story, and it’s the only thing he’s read since he got home.”
The other letter came from a young woman in British Columbia who couldn’t remember the name of the piece she’d read in the Reader’s Digest about my strained relationship with my mother. (Mother’s Desk.) “My mother and I have trouble communicating too. She never returns my phone calls. I thought she might read that article.”
The two letters came within ten days of each other and acted as a kind of Why not, indeed!
“I think,” I said to Van, “I’m going to write that book.”
What do you want the reader to take away from the book? How very much God loves her – no matter what!

A ROMANCE REKINDLED - Kimberly Rose Johnson - One Free Book

Bio: Kimberly Rose Johnson holds a degree in Behavioral Science from Northwest University. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two teenage sons, and their yellow lab. She writes sweet Christian romance for Heartsong Presents and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers. She enjoys taking long walks with her husband and dog, reading, dark chocolate and time with friends.
Welcome back, Kimberley. Why do you write the kind of books you do?Since the seventh grade when I discovered romance books, I have been addicted to reading them. I know sweet romance, so that is what I write.
Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?I know I should say the day I was married, or the day my kids were born, but I think the happiest day of my life to date was the day my oldest son got his first job. He’s eighteen and has been looking for a job since last summer. I told my mom I was happier for him when he got hired than I was when I received my first book contract, and I was ecstatic about that. JIncidentally the same day he was hired, I found out my editor planned to contract two more books with me. So it was a doubly wonderful day.                         We don’t get many days like that. I had one when I received an offer for a book contract one morning and another that afternoon. How has being published changed your life?I used to teach piano lessons, but this past year my husband encouraged me to write full time. Now my days are filled with writing, social networking, marketing, and all the fun stuff writers get to do. I’m a little more stressed now that I used to be, but I’m living my dream.
What are you reading right now?I’m currently reading No one to Trust, by Lynette Eason.
Actually, I’m reading a Lynette Eason romantic suspense on my Kindle right now. I love her books. What is your current work in progress?I’m writing a newly contracted book for Heartsong Presents. My working title is Valentine’s Day Blues. This book will release in March of next year.
I would love to schedule this book on my blog. What would be your dream vacation? This past year I had the opportunity to go on my dream vacation. My husband and I went to Orlando Florida the first week in December and visited Disney World. It was a much needed break after the release of my Debut novel The Christmas Promise, last November.
It was the trip of a lifetime and something I’d wanted to do since I was a little girl.
How do you choose your settings for each book?I like reading books set in small towns, so the setting for my current series in Leavenworth, Washington. Leavenworth is nestled in the Washington Cascades and is a themed Bavarian village that tourists flock to. It just so happens my husband has family there, so I was able to visit with them and it a true feel for the area.
If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why? This is a tough question because choosing just one person is a challenge. JI really admire Debbie Macomber, so I think I’ll pick her. I would love to pick her brain and just visit with her. She seems like such a nice lady.
I started reading Debbie when her first Christian romance book came out in 1984, and I got to meet her the last time the American Christian Fiction Writers conference was in Denver. What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?I love talking long walks with my husband and our dog every evening. It’s possibly the highlight of my day.
What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?Creating conflict in my stories has been my most difficult challenge. I like everything to be smooth and happy, but that doesn’t work well in a story.
My critique partners are great at pointing this out to me and commenting when something needs more conflict.
I was like you when I started writing, but I did learn to add conflict. What advice would you give to a beginning author?First of all only write if it’s your passion. Writers face a ton of rejection and criticism and if you’re not passionate about what you are doing, it won’t be worth the pain.
Assuming, writing is your passion then I recommend getting involved in a writers group. Attend writers’ conferences and read a few books on the craft.
Tell us about the featured book. A Romance Rekindled is the second book in my Leavenworth, WAseries, however it stands alone.  Here is the back cover blurb.Susan Hill Isn’t Ready To Forgive.
The small-town CPA can't forget how Blake Mitchell jilted her and left their hometown without an explanation. But when her first love returns to Leavenworth, the ruggedly handsome writer evokes conflicting emotions, especially when Susan meets the child she assumes is his daughter.
Since his parents’ deaths six years ago, Blake’s been raising his little sister on his own. But he’s never forgotten the woman he left behind. Now, he can’t undo the past, but maybe he can change the future … if he can convince Susan to give him one more chance.
Please give us the first page of the book.Susan Hill waved goodbye to her best friend, Keira, as she walked out the door of Keira’s candy shop. “See you.” She laughed at the silly look on her friend’s face then turned and smacked into a hard body. Oof.
Strong fingers gripped her arm and a masculine voice close to her ear held remorse. “Susan, you okay?”
She jerked free of his touch, yet her skin tingled where his fingers had held her arms. She let her breath out slowly then braced herself to look into the deep mocha eyes that still haunted her dreams. “Blake.” Why had he returned to Leavenworth? She took a step back. “Um. What are you doing here?”
“Katie wanted candy.” A corner of his mouth lifted, lighting a smile in his eyes. “You look good. I see you’re still into Goth. The purple streaks are cool.”
The young girl standing beside him couldn’t be more than eight or nine, but Susan was never good at guessing ages. A sick feeling gripped her stomach as she counted the years since she had last seen him. He wouldn’t—it’s not possible.
I can’t wait until my copy arrives. How can readers find you on the Internet?
The best place to connect with me is my website. I have links to all my social networking sites as well as a newsletter signup. http://kimberlyrjohnson.com/

FATAL EXCHANGE - Lisa Harris - One Free Book

Readers, Lisa Harris is a very good friend of mine. I mentored her before she became published and early in her career before her family moved to Africato be missionaries. We only see each other every year or two, but I’m thankful for the Internet that lets us stay connected. I always read her blog. She’s a great wildlife photographer, and I like to keep up with what’s going on with their ministry.
I love her writing. I loved book one of her Southern Crimes series. Fatal Exchange arrived last week, and it’s at the top of my to-be-read pile. I only have a few pages to go to finish reading Bridge to Haven by Francine Rivers.
Welcome back, Lisa. Tell us a little about yourself and your background.Like most women, I juggle a lot of roles. Mom, wife, teacher, chauffer, writer ... My husband and I have three beautiful children, and we’ve lived in southern Africa now for over ten years. We currently live in Mozambique and are involved in church planting and discipleship. We’ve been blessed to see a lot of the world and experience many different cultures, something I’m extremely thankful for.

How did you become interested in writing?           Writing is something I wanted to do from the time I was small. I started a few stories in junior high, then didn’t really take it seriously until I was in my late twenties. After our oldest was born, I was a stay-at-home mom with no vehicle, so I decided it was finally time for me to write a book. And I did. I had (and still do) so much to learn, so I soaked up everything I could from writer’s groups (thank you, Lena!) conferences, and how-to books. About six years later, I got that first call from an editor that they were going to buy my story.
We were all excited when that call came. What compelled you to write a book on the subject in Fatal Exchange? Fatal Exchange is book two in my Southern Crimes series. While book one focused on a heroine who is a homicide detective, her sister Emily, my heroine in book two, is very different. Emily is a school teacher who isn’t interested in chasing down bad guys like her sister. She cares about her students and insuring they succeed. I wanted her to find out, though, that she was far stronger than she realized. I think that is true for all of us. With God’s strength, we can do things we didn’t think possible.
What is the main theme or point that you want readers to understand from reading your book? Are there any other themes present in the book? When we let him, God can use us, even when we feel small and unable. He is able!

Are there some specific lessons you hope readers will learn and apply to their lives after reading your book? When I wrote this story, I thought a lot about the difficult things we face in life and how we react to those difficult situations. In the story, Emily faces a hostage situation in her classroom. Now hopefully none of us will ever have to face anything like that, but life is still full of difficult choices and challenging situations.
The question is how do we respond to those trials? And not just the tougher, life and death situations, but the smaller, day-to-day issues? How do we respond to difficult people? To unfairness at work? To a trying neighbor, child, or spouse? Sometimes these are the situations where it takes the most courage to be gracious, loving, and forgiving.

That is so true. What makes your book different than any other books similar to yours that are in circulation today?             A reviewer recently mentioned my “signature complex characters” in a review and I loved that. Because I really enjoy delving into the character’s lives and going deeper, which is hard with suspense and a very short time-frame for the story.

How does the book intertwine with God’s call on your life and how you are currently serving Him? I’ve always felt strongly that people need to realize that God can use them no matter who they are. And I love taking characters who don’t feel worthy or able and letting God use them! I see that in our ministry, in my own life, and in my books as well.

Do you have a favorite Scripture verse? I love this reminder, especially when things are tough. “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24

When you are not writing, what do you like to do? Do you have any hobbies? I love trying new recipes and photography, but for the most part, when I’m not writing or involved in ministry, I simply love to be with my family.

As we close, is there anything else you would like to add?Thank you so much for having me, Lena!
It’s always a great pleasure to interview you. I want my readers to get to know you and your work. Where can my readers find you on the Internet?I have a blog: http://myblogintheheartofafrica.blogspot.com. Be sure and sign up (top left hand corner) for my newsletter so you can keep up with all my latest books and information. I also have a website: www.lisaharriswrites.com
Thank you, Lisa. Be sure to schedule your next book on my blog. My readers will be as eager to know about it as I will.

HIS CHOSEN BRIDE - Rhonda Gibson - One Free Book

Welcome back, Rhonda. Tell us about your salvation experience. I was in church when I was 3 days old, per Mama. I was saved at a very young age, 8, and baptized in a good old fashioned river in Oklahoma.
You’re planning a writing retreat where you can only have four other authors. Who would they be and why? Oh this one is hard! I have so many wonderful author buddies, but, for historical authors I would choose: Lauraine Snelling, because she taught me a lot when I first started and she’s so fun! Tracie Peterson because she is a wonderful lady who has much to teach. Laurie Kingery because she and I need more time to chat and Karen Witemeyer.
Do you have a speaking ministry? If so, tell us about that. I have a small speaking ministry at this time. I mainly speak to writer’s groups and small Christian women’s groups. I am always interested in speaking to other people about God and/or writing. So if you know anyone who needs a speaker, let me know.
What is the most romantic thing that has happened to you and how did you handle it? My husband proposed to me under my family Christmas tree. I said, “YES!” Last May was our 30th anniversary, and he took me to Discovery Cove in Floridawhere a dolphin brought me a buoy that says Happy 30th Anniversary. I have the best husband in the world, so glad I said, yes.
I have a wonderful husband, too. We are truly blessed. People are always telling me that they’d like to write a book someday. I’m sure they do to you, too. What would you tell someone who came up to you and said that? First off I’d say that’s great! Then I would tell them to read everything they can get their hands on that is similar to what they want to write. I’d advise them to buy how-to-write books and to get involved with a local writers group.
Tell us about the featured book. His Chosen Bride , is part two of the Westland brother’s stories. Their mother started a contest where the first son to get married, and have a grandchild for her, will inherit the family ranch. She is determined that Levi participate so takes it upon herself to invite a house full of mail-order brides to town to meet her youngest son, then proceeds to tell him he has to pick one.
Please give us the first page of the book.Millie Hamilton stood in the stagecoach doorway and looked out on the town before her. Dusty, rustic, and sparse. Most certainly not like her beloved hometown of Cottonwood Springs, New Mexico, with its trees along Main Streetand flower boxes in front of businesses. No, she was finally in Granite, Texas, six months past her original arrival date.
"Miss Millicent Summer?"
Millie knew without being told that the man in front of her was Levi Westland, the man who'd expected to marry her six month ago. She was to have been his mail-order bride. She recognized him from the photograph he'd sent her in his last letter, though the small picture hadn't done him justice. Surely he hadn't continued to meet the stage daily.
"Yes?" Millie allowed him to take her gloved hand and assist her from the stage.
“I'm Levi Westland."
To say Levi Westland was handsome would have been an understatement. Piercing greeneyes shone from his face like gleaming porcelain and two dimples appeared as if loving fingers had squeezed his cheeks. She was caught off guard by the sudden flutter in her heart. He was the most handsome man she'd ever met and that meant trouble for her.
How can readers find you on the Internet? Readers are welcome to visit me at www.rhondagibson.netand are also welcome to write to me and request to be put on my email newsletter rhondagibson65@hotmail.com

Thank you, Rhonda, for visiting with us today. I can't wait to read this book. I loved the first one in the series.

THE NURSE'S PERFECT MATCH - Narelle Atkins - One Free Book

Readers, Narelle is one of my writing friends who live in Australia. I did get to meet her face to face at the American Christian Fiction Writers conference. I look forward to the time we can meet again. I loved her debut book Falling for the Farmer, and I can hardly wait until my copy of The Nurse's Perfect Match arrives.
Welcome back, Narelle. Why do you write the kind of books you do?My favorite genre to read is contemporary inspirational romance. I love writing stories that combine a satisfying romance with an authentic faith journey for the hero and heroine. God is at the center of their relationship, and future marriage at the end of the story. I journey with my characters as they overcome obstacles in the story and fall in love.
Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life? The day my daughter was born. My husband and I had hoped to have two children, and her arrival completed our family. She was born late in the afternoon on Easter Sunday. Our beautiful Easter gift on the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior.
How has being published changed your life?My schedule is busy, and I have less leisure time now. I also work ten hours per week as a retail service supervisor. I need to balance my two jobs with my family and other responsibilities. Thankfully my friends are understanding and don’t get offended when I disappear into my writing cave.
I’ve had a writing deadline of some description every month for the past twelve months. Deadlines have become a normal part of my life. I also have a book releasing every three months from February 2014 to May 2015. I’m learning to incorporate book promotion time into my writing schedule.
What are you reading right now?Wild Mint Tea, a contemporary farm-lit romance by Valerie Comer.
What is your current work in progress?I’m rewriting and revising the fifth book in my contract, due for release in February 2015.
What would be your dream vacation?I’d love to take a break for a few months, and travel around outback Australiawith my family. I dream about enjoying the open spaces, and the natural beauty of God’s creation.
How do you choose your settings for each book?I’m an Aussie, and I like setting books in Australia. I’ve chosen settings where I’ve lived (Sydney) or visited often (Snowy Mountains).
If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?I think it would be fascinating to spend an evening with Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth. Australia is part of the Commonwealth, and the Queen is our head of state. She has dedicated her life to royal duties and serving others.
What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?I’m in a season in my life where I don’t have a lot of spare time. I like to cook, but my focus is on cooking fast and nutritious meals. My slow cooker is my favorite kitchen appliance. I also like cycling and hiking, and I squeeze gym classes into my schedule.
What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?My passion is writing contemporary inspirational romance with Aussie characters in an Australian setting. For many years there were few, if any, opportunities to sell Aussie inspirational romance in the US market.
I wrote Falling for the Farmer in 2011 as a clean, sweet romance from a Christian world view. This was around the time Barbour announced they were closing the Heartsong Presents line, and the Love Inspired contemporary guidelines weren’t inclusive of foreign settings.
It was a discouraging time in my writing journey, and a test of faith and patience. I enjoyed writing Falling for the Farmer as a sweet romance, but I missed being able to include a faith element in the story. I believed the Lord had given me inspirational romance story ideas for a reason, and the books would find a publishing home in His timing.
In August 2012, Harlequin announced they were open for submissions to the Heartsong Presents line they had recently purchased from Barbour. I emailed a query and sold my first book, Her Tycoon Hero, in September 2012. My editor asked if I’d written anything else, which led to writing proposals for three brand new stories. I added the faith element into Falling for the Farmer, and it became my debut release in February 2014.
What advice would you give to a beginning author?Be prepared to work hard and learn the craft of writing. Finish your first book, put it aside, and start writing your next book. Resist the temptation to rush into publishing your first book too soon, before you’ve acquired the skills needed to write a great book. Debut books are special, and you want your first published book to shine.
Tell us about the featured book. The Nurse’s Perfect Match is set in Snowgum Creek, a fictitious town located near the Snowy Mountains in Australia. Ben Morton is an apple farmer and single dad who lost his wife to cancer. He struggles to understand why a loving God would take away the mother of his children. His late wife was also a Christian, and they had a strong marriage. Amy Wilkins is a widow who lost her husband when her marriage was in crisis. Amy moves back home to Snowgum Creek, and works as a nurse in the medical clinic owned by Ben’s younger brother.    Please give us the first page of the book. The V-8 engine roared to life. Amy Wilkins stood at the side of the road, her shaky hands clutching her purse. The car sped away, dust and gravel spraying into the still night air. She pulled her jacket closer around her chilled body as the rumble of the engine receded.
Her pulse slowed and she sucked in a deep breath, glad she had chosen to wear jeans and comfortable shoes tonight. She trailed her fingertips along her arm. It stung where she had wrenched it out of his rock-solid grip. A two-mile walk home was preferable to his rotten company.
The distant glow of streetlights in Snowgum Creek and the full moon hovering overhead lit her path beside the deserted country road. She kicked a stone out of the way, not caring about the damage to her designer-label leather boot. Back home for four weeks and she’d already found trouble. If only she’d followed her mother’s recommendation for a handyman instead of employing an old school friend.
Tears built in her eyes and she bit her lower lip, refusing to let them flow. She had made a mistake in trusting him, but it wouldn’t happen again. Jed’s charming smile had hidden a dark heart and an arrogance she didn’t remember from their school days. How dare he assume she was desperate for male attention, just because she was a twenty-seven-year-old widow?
The headlights of an approaching car illuminated the isolated road. She dipped her head, hoping the driver would ignore her. The high beams blinded her and she squeezed her eyes shut. Her throat tightened as the light passed, the brakes squeaked, and the vehicle slowed. Please, Lord, keep me safe. I don’t need any more problems tonight.
Gravel crunched under the car’s tires and the vehicle swung around, headlights brightening the road ahead. She sighed, her mouth set in a grim line as she turned to face it.
She stepped away from the edge of the road, a flicker of hope igniting in her heart. The people in the car could be concerned citizens who were willing to help her without asking too many questions.
The headlights dimmed and the car crawled to a stop, the passenger window lowered. A young girl rested her head on a pillow in the backseat, her innocent face serene as she slept.
Amy took a few hesitant steps forward and crouched to look inside the car. A younger boy slept beside the girl and a familiar pair of chocolate-brown eyes met her gaze from the driver’s seat. Ben Morton.
She swallowed hard, captivated by the warmth emanating from his eyes. Now in his early thirties, his handsome face had matured, and the family resemblance to Luke, her boss and Ben’s younger brother, was more pronounced. She hadn’t spoken to Ben in years, not since she was his younger sister Rachel’s best friend in high school.

WHAT FOLLOWS AFTER - Dan Walsh - One Free Book

Bio: Dan Walsh is the bestselling author of 10 novels, published by Revell and Guideposts. He’s won 3 Carol Awards, 2 Selah Awards, and three times his books have been finalists for Romantic TimesInspirational Book of the Year. Dan served as a pastor for 25 years and now writes fulltime. He and his wife Cindi have been married 37 years and live in Port Orange, Florida.
Since you’re being published regularly, what new avenues will your future books take?         What Follows After is my 10th published novel. I’ve already completed the third and fourth books in my Restoration series with Gary Smalley. They will come out in September and April of next year, and that will complete the series. I’m actually writing my 13th book now, a Christmas novel. My agent is shopping a new 3-book proposal. The books will be similar in style to the novels I’ve been writing. As far as new avenues go, I plan to include more romantic suspense in my books, which I’ve already done with What Follows After , and another novel I wrote last year called, The Discovery (a Carol Award finalist).
I’m planning on publishing a new indie novel in the fall, called A Far Better Dream, which is a bit of a stretch for my brand. It will definitely include a romantic thread but be more of a traditional suspense novel.
Sounds interesting. I’d love to schedule all these coming books on my blog. Please email me with the titles and publication dates. I’ll put you in the database now. What conferences will you be attending this year? Will you be a speaker at any of them?           I’ve already attended the Florida Christian Writers Conference last month, and taught a continuing education class there. I’ll be attending the Oregon Christian Writers Coaching Conference in August teaching a coaching session there, a workshop, and sharing the keynote duties with my friend, Allan Arnold. I also plan to attend the big American Christian Fiction Writers conference again this September.
Good. I’ll see you there. I hope Cindi comes this year. If you were in charge of planning the panel discussion at a writing conference, what topic would the panel cover, and who would you ask to be on the panel, and why?            That’s a tough one, Lena. The challenge is to narrow down the topics to just one. Perhaps I would go with a panel on Managing Writers Expectations. I think there’s a lot of confusion and a good bit of unnecessary heartache that comes from this area. There are so many people I’d consider inviting on such a panel, starting with Allen Arnold. He’s gleaned a strong perspective on this topic after spending so many years working with authors at Thomas Nelson. I’d invite my friend, Jim Rubart. I think he has his finger on the pulse in this area of expectations. Maybe Susan May Warren, a talented writer who’s written for several different publishers and in several genres. And also Brandilyn Collins, an author with a ton of experience who’s recently made the switch from traditional to indie publishing.
That would be an interesting panel with lots of expertise. I’d sure attend the session. How important is it to you to be active in writing organizations?Carving out time to be involved with other writers is definitely a priority for me. Even for personal reasons. Writing is such a solitary business. I need and want to interact with others who get what I’m doing. I attend a monthly Word Weavers chapter in my hometown and I’m involved in several online groups. I used to be more involved with the ACFW loop and hope to spend more time there in the future.
Where in the community or your church do you volunteer?        My wife and I are part of the prayer counselor ministry at our church and often lead small groups, as well. I’ve also volunteered at events at the local Humane Society where my wife works as a dog trainer.
Who are the five people who have made the most impact on your life, and how?         My wife, Cindi - no one has had a greater and more lasting impact on my life than she has. Still to this day. No one even comes close. I simply wouldn’t be who I am or do what I am doing without her. My late mom would probably come next. From her, I experienced a consistent flow of unconditional love and encouragement. I guess the third and fourth spots would go to my agent and editor at Revell. My writing career is a direct result of their support, their faith in me, and input into my work.
I’m guessing by your question you intended to mean those who’ve made a positive impact on my life. To be honest, a few people come to mind who’ve made a major negative impact. People who’ve caused me more harm than good. But I guess the same thing can be said for anyone, and it really wouldn’t bless anyone to hear me go on about them. Besides, God uses situations like these to refine us so, in time, the negative impact is lessened and even some good comes out of it.
Yes, those negative impacts help form us, too. If you could write the inscription on your tombstone, what would it be?That’s a hard one. Maybe something like: Dan Walsh – Loved by God and a remarkable wife. Tried―sometimes successfully―to be a loving husband and father in return.
I like that one. Tell us about the featured book.     Here’s what it says on the back cover: In 1962, life was simple, the world made sense, and all families were happy. And when they weren’t, everyone knew you were supposed to pretend. For the past year, Scott and Gina Harrison have been living a lie. While they show up at family get-togethers in the same car, they’ve actually been separated for over a year. To keep up the charade, they’ve even instructed their sons, Colt and Timmy, to lie–to their grandparents, their teachers, and their friends.

Colt, for one, has had enough, so he hatches a plan. He and his little brother will run away from their Florida home, head for their aunt’s house in Georgia, and refuse to come home until their parents get back together. But when things go terribly, terribly wrong, Scott and Gina must come to grips with years of neglect and mistrust in order to recover their beloved sons, their love for one another, and their marriage.

In this emotional story, Walsh takes you on a journey to rediscover the things that matter most in life–love, truth, and family. With profound insight into the heart of a hurting child, he reminds us that a time will come to look back on hard times and smile, because we’ll know that what follows after … is not what we expected at all.
Please share the first page with us.  The PresentThe young look forward, the old look back.
Someone way smarter than me said that. Guess I’m old then. If you saw me, you wouldn’t need to be told. But the looking back part, been doing a lot of that lately. So much so, I’ve been driving Elaine nuts.
Funny how the memory works. You can think you forgot something, like it’s gone for good. Then you hear a song from fifty years ago, and it unlocks a door. One you haven’t opened for so long, you forgot it was even there. A flood of images and sounds―and all the emotions that go with them―come rushing in. It’s great when it’s a nice song and opens a nice door. Not so great when the room behind that door is stacked with boxes of pain.
The song itself was stupid, the lyrics, I mean. I didn’t even like it back then. Seems like I would, coming from a beach town. Had a catchy tune, I’ll say that. I was in the car when I heard it. Before that, I’d barely heard it over the last several decades. The few times I had, it triggered a replay from one of the worst moments of my life.
I’m talking about “Surfin’ Safari” by the Beach Boys. I’m not a superstitious man, don’t believe in omens, but considering what I had come here to do, I’ve gotta say ... I got a little spooked hearing it again. I reached over and shut the radio off. Of all the songs that could have played on the thirty minute drive here (and I wasn’t even listening to an oldies station). What did it mean? Was God trying to tell me something? Like maybe, turn this car around?

MEANT TO BE MINE - Becky Wade - One Free Book

Readers, Becky is in my local chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers, so we’ve become good friends. When her first Christian romance novel released, I scheduled her on my blog, and I’ve scheduled the next two as well. Because of my own book deadlines, I didn’t read the first one right away. I did read book two when it released. I had to go back and find book one, because she has a unique voice that I love. Now with this book, I read it as soon as I received it (before its release).
She writes the kind of books I wish my publishers had let me write. They are so true-to-life in intensity and passion without being too graphic. I call the romance hot, because of the intensity and passion. And she reveals the reality of how hard it is sometimes to keep within the bounds of propriety when the love is so intense.
The storyline of this novel is intriguing. Her characters are multi-faceted. And I love the Texas setting. In addition, the spiritual thread is very strong and deep. I highly recommend this amazing read. The characters will stay with you a long time.
Welcome, Becky. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon? It's wonderful to have a job that's also a ministry. I know I couldn't finish a page, much less an entire novel, without God's movement in my writing life. I always pray before I open my manuscript and ask/plead/entreat Him to help me. So far, He's been gracious to do exactly that.
On the horizon, I see (Lord willing) more busy, wonderful years with my husband and three children. Writing-wise: two more contemporary Christian romance novels about the Porter Family and one stand-alone novella. After that, I'm not sure. Maybe a long, long vacation to the beach?
Please schedule the books on my blog as soon as you have the publication dates. Tell us a little about your family.I've been married for twenty years and my husband and I have three children. My thirteen-year-old daughter enjoys cheerleading, flat-ironing her hair, Chef Boyardee products, and pop music I don't like at all. My ten-year-old son loathes homework and standardized testing but loves sports, cars, video games, and all things cowboy-related. My five-year-old daughter spends the whole day dancing and singing made-up songs. She's very social and unless I invite one of her friends over to play she attempts to talk to me nonstop. All day. Without pausing.
I have one of those nonstop talkers, and she grown with children and a grandchild. Has your writing changed your reading habits? If so, how? It's so sad, Lena! I now write during hours I used to spend reading, so I don't have nearly as much reading time as I used to have. It's not unusual for me to take a whole month to read one book. During the summer and non-deadline times of the year, I'm able to read more.
What are you working on right now?I'm revising my fourth novel for Bethany House, and the third book in the Porter Family series. This one's about Jake Porter. He's a former Marine who came home from Iraq with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a scar across his face. He's a dark and brooding hero, and since I love the brooding ones, I'm having a great time squeezing every drop of drama I can out of him.
Can’t wait to read Jake’s story. What outside interests do you have?Tennis! My husband played college tennis and started giving me lessons shortly after we married. I've been playing women's doubles ever since. Currently, I'm part of a team that competes at clubs around the Dallas/Fort Worthmetroplex. Tennis gets me outdoors and exercising. Plus, it's a great way to build friendships.
Does eating chocolate count as an outside interest? If so, I've also got that one covered.
Eating chocolate is one of mine, too. How do you choose your settings for each book?I follow the whims of my inspiration. My sisters and I once stayed at a small town Bed and Breakfast in Pennsylvania. I found it so quaint that I decided to set My Stubborn Heartthere.
I live in Dallas. Even though I'm a city girl, I love taking day or weekend getaways to old Texas towns. Think historic squares, yummy restaurants, patriotism, and COWBOYS. The spirit of those communities inspired me to set my Porter Family novels in a charming little town in north Texas.
If you could spend an evening with one historical person, who would it be and why? After giving this a great deal of deep, intellectual thought I've decided to go back in history to 1990's England. Why? So that I'll have the chance to spend an evening with Colin Firth before he meets his wife. Then I can marry him instead. I'll have my own Mr. Darcy!
What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started writing novels?I wish I'd understood sooner that publication isn't the goal of writing novels. Nor is bestsellerdom or a devoted readership. The real goal of my writing is simply to be obedient to the call God has placed on my life. That's where the joy and satisfaction is.
What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now?As my children have grown, the problems they struggle with have grown, too. Sometimes I feel as though I'm reasonably qualified to raise children who are eight years old and under. But I think I missed the advanced degree in mothering that might have prepared me for children who are 13 and 10.
Through this the Lord is teaching me (again and again) to trust Him with my worries, my family, our future.
What are the three best things you can tell other authors to do to be successful?Write the book God leads you to write.Write it exactly how you love it.Don't let anyone else's process influence yours. Seek and find your own process.
Tell us about the featured book. Meant to Be Mine stars Ty Porter, the funniest, most confident, and most charming hero I've written. Right at the outset of the story, Ty marries Celia Park in a spur-of-the-moment Las Vegas wedding. The next morning, they part ways.
Fast forward more than five years. Ty tracks Celia down in order to divorce her and marry the beautiful hometown girl of his dreams. Except he finds more than he bargained for. Not only does he discover Celia, but also Celia's daughter. Their daughter—a sweet-hearted kindergartener he never knew anything about.
Lots of fun, forgiveness, romance, and spunky back-and-forth banter ensue.
Please give us the first page of the book for my readers.Five and a Half Years Ago
"Will you marry me?"
Celia glanced up at Ty and found him gazing down at her. His gorgeous blue eyes regarded her as if she were the most fabulously desirable woman on the planet.
"What did you just say to me?" She had to speak louder than usual to be heard above the happy din of the Las Vegas casino.
"Do you want to marry me?"
"Ty Porter, that's not funny."
"Who said I was kidding?"
"Me. I'm saying it." Their romance had only begun four days ago. Granted, they'd been the four best days of Celia's life. Because of him, she'd spent her daylight hours in a haze of bliss. She'd spent her nights thinking about him, staring up at her hotel room ceiling with eyes as round as Ping-Pong balls, too excited to sleep.
"Your turn, miss." One of the dealers at the craps table pushed two dice towards Celia with his slim stick, bent at a ninety-degree angle at the end.
"Feeling lucky?" Ty asked.
"Yes." Ty liked her—her!—which made her the luckiest girl in

LONDONDERRY DREAMING - Christine Lindsay - One Free Ebook

Welcome back, Christine. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon? At the moment I am letting readers know about Londonderry Dreaming , my first strictly romance novel with Pelican Books. But also this year will be the release of Veiled at Midnight Book 3 in my historical series, Twilight of the British Raj. WhiteFire Publishing has also offered me the contract to write my non-fiction account of my experience as a birthmom—a woman who relinquishes her child to adoption—and my reunion with my birthdaughter 20 years later. Sometimes I get a little breathless thinking about it all.
Tell us a little about your family.Like a lot of families these days, mine is a bit complex. My husband and I have three grown children and three grandsons. But we also have a wonderful relationship with my birthdaughter, Sarah. It’s so exciting right now. Sarah is 35 and has just had her first child, a little boy. So now I have 4 grandsons. It broke my heart to give Sarah up as a baby, but it was best for her at the time, since I was not married. I didn’t meet my dear husband until a year after I gave Sarah up. But God is so good. These days Sarah and I have a warm relationship as birthmom and birthdaughter. The best way I can describe it, it’s a bit like favorite aunt and favorite niece.
Has your writing changed your reading habits? If so, how?Writing is such time-consuming work, so that I rarely get to read just for fun. I’m either doing research for my novels, or reading for review. Not much opportunity to just kick back in a hammock and fall asleep with a good book in my hands.
What are you working on right now?Veiled at Midnight, Book 3 of my historical series set in exotic India. The hero and heroine in this book were just children in the first book, Shadowed in Silk. Now Cam and Dassah are grown, and in love. However, there is a lot against this couple being together. Cam is an English officer in the British army, and Dassah is a beautiful young Indian woman. As a mixed-race couple in 1947, they have much to keep them apart. Add to that, Cam’s struggle with alcoholism, misunderstandings, and treachery around them as Indian is about to be brutally parted in two. This is an explosive era, the end of British Colonialism. The historical figure of Lord Louis Mountbatten features in this story as the last Viceroy to India. Talk about pomp!
What outside interests do you have?I love to garden with my mother who lives with us. And I love to get away in the little travel trailer with my husband. Get outdoors and enjoy God’s masterpiece.
How do you choose your settings for each book?So far those settings have chosen me. My favorite books were written by the great MM Kaye, who wrote massive epics full of romance, adventure, and action set in Colonial India. I wanted to write books similar to that but from a Christian point of view. As for Londonderry Dreaming , the setting of Northern Irelandwas too good to pass up. I was born in Northern Ireland, and I simply had to write this story when Pelican put out the submission call for their Passport to Romance line, and one of the international settings was Londonderry.
If you could spend an evening with one historical person, who would it be and why?I would like to meet with Pandita Ramabai, the great Indian Christian woman who did so much for suffering women and children in India. Ramabai died in 1922 but her mission is still in existence today. It’s funny, I think she did more even than Mother Theresa, but she remains fairly unknown in the US. I would be so intimidated to meet this wonderful woman, but she is the inspiration behind the entire series Twilight of the British Raj.
What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started writing novels? That it would take me, drain me, take 99% of any leisure time I had remaining in my day, but yet be the most exciting way the Lord has used me to share His message of salvation. I’m tired, but it’s worth it, if my stories convey to readers how wonderful the Lord is.
I’ve only read the first book in the Twilight of the British Raj series, and you accomplished your goal in that one. What new lessons is the Lord teaching you right now?To not run ahead of Him, but remain in step with Him. The only way to do that is spend time in prayer and listen.
What are the three best things you can tell other authors to do to be successful?Realize it will cost you a great deal—in money perhaps, but mostly in time, but you need to learn how to write. Perseverance is your friend—so keep at it. Write what you are passionate about.
Tell us about the featured book. In Londonderry Dreaming , Naomi Boyd and Keith Wilson are two American people of Irish ancestry. She is an acclaimed New York artist and he’s a music therapist. Years before, they met in Ireland and fell in love, but Naomi’s grandfather separated them.
There is some secret root of bitterness between Ruth and Keith’s grandparents that has kept Naomi and Keith apart, until both sets of grandparents have passed on. Back in Ireland, a mysterious painting in the attic of Keith’s grandparents’ house brings all those old questions up. The interesting thing about Keith and Naomi is they are more comfortable with the unspoken languages of art and music and must learn to verbally share their hurts and true feelings.
This book is set against the majestic coastline of Northern Ireland.
Please give us the first page of the book.Keith couldn’t get the old song about marrying a girl like the one Dad married out of his head as he dusted the heavy pewter frame of his grandparents’ wedding photo. His Granda used to sing that song all the time. Keith held the picture up to catch Londonderry’s wintry light streaming through the parlor window, his gaze moving from his grandfather’s face to his grandmother’s. A girl just like ... He cleared the roughness from his voice. Actually, someone like the girl that married his grandfather was more what he was praying for in a wife.
Yeah, his sweet Irish Gran, no woman could even come close to the gal she used to be. The way she used to bang the piano keys when the family this side of the ocean had a good old knees up party with plenty of singing and dancing. But her laughing eyes could turn to scolding as quick as a storm coming off the Irish Sea. And then those eyes melted within moments afterward with a hug, and most likely a chocolate biscuit. Dear Lord, I’m going to miss her and that wild sense of humor she had, not to mention her cooking.
The doorbell rang. Were his cousins back already with more boxes? Garrick and Sandra had left only twenty minutes ago, but they needed a load more containers if he was to ever get started on emptying this house.
He placed the photograph into the box of items he would take back to the States. It would sit in a place of honor on his piano at home in Albany. As for the rest ...
What a royal mess he and his Irish cousins had made of the first floor of this small, red-brick row house. To be fair he’d only just started, but there were two floors and then the attic. Thanks, Gran, for asking me to take care of this for you—me of all people. Now if all this stuff were musical gear he’d know what to do, but what was he to do with his grandmother’s dainty things? She’d been so insistent though, and he could never refuse her anything. She also knew he’d take any opportunity to fly over to Ireland.
I can’t wait for my copy to arrive. How can readers find you on the Internet?I would love for new friends and followers on my blog www.ChristineLindsay.org,Facebook, Twitter,Pinterest, Goodreads.

Thank you, Christine, for sharing this new book with us. We must schedule the third book in the Twilight of the British Raj series on the blog, too.
