Why I Write Lesbian Fiction (and Why It's Always a Little Messy) Jess Harley
Someone recently told me, "You’ve got big ‘writes chaos, delivers core strength’ vibes," and honestly? I’ve never felt so seen.
Hi, I’m Jess Harley, and I write lesbian fiction — the kind where the women are over 30, the baggage is emotional and designer, and the love stories come with real-life messiness, tenderness, and occasional sarcasm-induced whiplash.
I started writing because I couldn’t find enough lesbian books where the characters weren’t just coming out, but also coming into their own. I wanted complicated, confident women who flirt at farmers markets, fall in love slowly (or disastrously fast), and text their therapist before their love interest.
My characters are queer, chaotic, and frequently kissing in emotionally fraught situations. They have dogs, divorces, and exes with great hair. They’re not always “likable,” but they’re always real. And if you’re into WLW romance, sapphic slow burns, and lesbian stories with actual plot, you’re in the right place.
So if you're looking for:
Lesbian authors writing funny, flawed, fabulous women
WLW fiction that’s equal parts heart and humor
And maybe a few “Oh my god, did she just say that?” moments…
Follow me here on Goodreads, stalk my upcoming releases, and let’s be honest — we both know you’re here for the pining.

Thai GL Dispatch | Issue 3 | Special Edition – NamtanFilm #NamtanFilm1stFMinHongKong by Jess Harley WLW Author
Dearest Reader,
In the grand theatre of Thai GL, few ships can orchestrate a public soft launch quite like NamtanFilm — and this weekend, they have gifted us a performance so tantalising that even my fainting couch has applied for overtime.
The overture began at the Airport, where keen-eyed devotees observed Namtan repeatedly fussing with Film’s clothing. Was this merely the work of a devoted stylist… or the most deliciously transparent excuse to touch her in public since the infamous “Let me fix your mic” incident? The verdict, dear reader, was unanimous: this was affection masquerading as practicality.
And just when the fandom’s collective heart rate had stabilised, Namtan herself — mistress of well-timed chaos — delivered a one-two blow via social media:
The Silhouette: The two of them, leaning together as the Hong Kong sun dipped into the horizon, shadows wrapped in gold. The scene was scored, I might add, to Adam Levine’s Lost Stars — a ballad so romantically blatant, my morning coffee required a fan.
The Cuddle: A fleeting clip, but enough to send group chats into all-caps pandemonium. Shoulders pressed. Heads nestled. The kind of casual intimacy that has launched a thousand edit videos and at least three premature wedding hashtags.
The fandom braced for Starry Night, wondering if anything could top such a prelude.
And oh, dear reader — it could.
At the fanmeet itself, Namtan bestowed upon Film a kiss to the cheek — and unlike previous occasions, she did not bolt in panic, but allowed the moment to land before retreating with a blush (and yes, she still bolted after, but we take our victories where we can).
The evening was littered with backhugs, as though personal space were a myth, and during the celebrity dance segment, Film began a sultry sway to Baby Tee. This proved too much for Namtan’s composure — she promptly stepped in front, staking her claim with the immortal words: “She is mine.”
And then, the pièce de résistance:
Standing before the Hong Kong crowd, Namtan gazed out at the glittering skyline and said, with the kind of offhand intimacy that can start wars, “The Hong Kong skyline is beautiful… I watched it from my bedroom with Nong Film.”
The audience erupted. Film blushed. Somewhere, an entire shipping fleet added “bedroom” to their search terms.
One must ask… is there something in the air in Hong Kong?
Whatever the cause, this was a performance of shipper dreams — equal parts romance, chaos, and territorial declarations — and we shall be dissecting it frame by frame for weeks to come.
Until the next scandalous scene, I remain,
Your devoted and delulu correspondent,
Miss Jess Harley

Thai GL News | NamtanFilm GMMTV Outing August 2025 by Jess Harley WLW Author
Ah, dearest readers of Thai GL News,
Prepare yourselves for yet another tantalising instalment from the ever-enchanting world of NamtanFilm. One cannot help but note how this week, Namtan graced our eyes with such an abundance of splendour that even the most composed among us were rendered positively breathless. From the very first glimpse, Thai GL News was alight with whispered excitement as Namtan Tipnaree, accompanied by the ever-dashing Emi Thasorn, attended the Paul Smith affair in Thailand. Suits so impeccably tailored that one could scarcely imagine a more delightful feast for the eyes—Namtan in all her composed elegance, Emi coyly concealing herself behind the fortuitous shoulder of our beloved Namtan, and yet, even in their shy smiles, they became the centre of every admirer’s gaze. Indeed, Thai GL News is quite certain that hearts skipped collectively across the nation in that singular, glorious evening.
Yet, as the week progressed, the stage shifted to the GMMTV outing, and our beloved NamtanFilm once again proved irresistible in their customary charm. There they were, cuddled upon the coach, with Namtan resting her head upon Film in what can only be described as a display of domestic devotion, leaving one to wonder how she ever endured sleep without this treasured pillow. Film, ever the mischievous darling, flitted about dressed as an adorable sprightly dolphin, performing with glee for her attentive trainer—our chaotic yet enchanted Namtan. There were head kisses, cheek kisses, and yet more cheek kisses, each leaving fans to marvel at the apparent irresistible magnetism of Namtan’s visage. One could hardly keep count, and indeed, Thai GL News finds itself repeating the very same astonished observations: hand in hand by the beach, whispered naughtiness in the form of playful training, and all manner of flirtations that would make even the most ardent courtier blush.
And let us not forget the moment of pure delight: Film, in her inimitable style, dancing her baby tee with such sensual precision that Namtan watched entranced, and, dare we say, just as many of her devoted fans. It was truly top-tier dancing — for a few glorious hours, nothing else appeared on our timelines but Film’s delightful performance. One scrolls through the TL in awe, seeing her antics reposted ad infinitum—a spectacle of charm, mischief, and undeniable magnetism. Thai GL News, of course, chronicles it all: the cuddles, the cheek kisses, the stolen glances, and the beguiling performances that leave us all wondering, with bated breath, what tomorrow’s events may bring.
Truly, dearest readers, if any company seeks promotion or an example of unmatched poise and artistry, one need look no further than Film herself, whose dancing of the baby tee alone could mesmerize an entire populace. Thai GL News shall continue to report, with all the appropriate gasps and sighs, upon their latest endeavours—lest we be caught unawares by another swoon-worthy display.
