I know I’m doing something good when I start getting trolls.

A troll posted a rainbow flag beneath a crossed-out sign on my You Don’t Deserve To Be Hurt video on Instagram.
I blocked them (which deleted their comment). It was funny because I didn’t mention #LGBTQ content in that video – although I AM always out/proud
I find it interesting that he left a homophobic comment on that video – reminding survivors and everyone that they don’t deserve to be hurt by anyone. Unless he chose randomly, that means he found something in my message threatening. Avoiding abuse & self-abuse IS political.
Because abuse keeps those with power in power, and keeps those that are oppressed oppressed. Finding ways to escape abuse, including self-abuse that we’ve been taught, is not just healing, it is revolutionary and political.
Keep taking good care of yourself!

#Writers – the second (expanded) edition of THE EMOTION THESAURUS by Becca Puglisi and Angela Ackerman releases today! And don’t miss the mega-giveaway!
If you’re a writer, this is exciting news! The first edition of THE EMOTION THESAURUS was incredibly helpful and awesome all on its own, but this second, expanded edition has SO much more, with 55 new entries and double the articles and writing tips to help you apply everything to your work.

THE EMOTION THESAURUS helps you dive into what your characters feel and their corresponding body language, making you think more about your own and other peoples’ responses to make your work deeper and richer. Using emotion, body language cues, and more can help your reader feel that same emotion (exactly what you want to keep your reader engaged). I highly recommend this thesaurus (and all the others) if you write. You don’t have to just take my word on this; you can read the reviews on Goodreads for this version, and check out reviews, too, of the earlier edition. (But the new edition is even better.) You can also read more about it here.
I own a hardcopy and an ebook copy of the first edition of this thesaurus, and I’m so excited about the new edition that I’ve already ordered my copy so I can refer to it when I’m editing. It’s available in the US, Canada, and more.

And don’t miss this MEGA-OPPORTUNITY to win something amazing!

GIVEAWAY ALERT:
To celebrate the new edition and its dedicated readers, Angela and Becca have an incredible giveaway on right now: one person will win a free writing retreat, conference, workshop, or professional membership to a writing organization, winner’s choice (up to $500 US, with some other conditions which are listed on the WHW site).
What conference would you attend if the fee was already paid for…or would you choose a retreat? Something else? Decisions, decisions! This giveaway ends on February 26th, so hurry over and enter!

You deserve to treat yourself the way you do a good friend.

You deserve to give yourself the same love, compassion, empathy, kindness, and patience that you do a dear friend. You are the one who is with you your entire life and you deserve that empathy. So I hope you will treat yourself as gently and as kindly as you do a friend.
This is something that I think is especially important for survivors, but we all need it. My therapist told me years ago to treat myself the way I would a friend, and it helped because I had been taught to hate myself by the cult and my abusers, and it was hard to see myself any other way. But thinking about what I would say to a friend in the same situation really help to clear it up and help me have empathy for myself. It’s also something that Marisa Peer, the hypnotherapist, talks about. It’s really important.
This is a technique that I still use sometimes when I find myself getting down on myself. It’s a technique I hope you will use, too. You deserve your love and compassion!
Love to you,
Cheryl Rainfield, author for SCARS, STAINED, and HUNTED.

I love when Petal does this when I’m reading

puts her paw against my body to make sure I’m there. It is so sweet. (Smiling)
I am reading the sequel to The Emerald Atlas called The Fire Chronicle, and enjoying it. I love engaging #MGlit (and #YAlit) fantasy.

Reading a good book and cuddling with Petal – two of my favourite things to do.

I am reading #mglit THE EMERALD ATLAS by John Stephens and loving it. I love that the two sisters are strong girl-characters and heroes as well as their brother. Love that they stick together as family, through hardships and strife. Love that there are many helper characters.
Books and cuddles – perfect for a cold winter day (or any day). #theemeraldatlas #johnstephens #mgbooks #mgfantasy

I think we all need reminders of positives, so this is mine right now for you:

I hope you remember always that you don’t deserve to be hurt, not ever–not even by yourself.
You do deserve to be treated with compassion, empathy, and love by others and by yourself.
I hope you take good care of yourself. And I hope you keep connecting with others. We need those connections. And we need to treat ourselves gently and kindly, as kindly and gently as we would a friend.
Love to you all,
Cheryl Rainfield, author of SCARS, STAINED, HUNTED
P. S. if it helps you, feel free to download this video and play it whenever you need to. I mean every word.
