#3goodthings

*the snow on the mountains, like I've never seen it before

*our group cooking at the homeless shelter, really in synch tonight *getting to swim after being away, even though it was chilly out

#3goodthings

I fell off the wagon of doing these lists last week while I was on the road and there were so many good things to mention, but one good thing that keeps sticking out for me that I really want to share was that peanut butter milkshake I got at a country store (a real one where guys were watching NASCAR, not a pretentiously named "country store" in some fancy burg someplace) in New Prospect, North Carolina. I drove off the highway in pursuit of the town of that fine name, and stumbled upon this gem of a frosty delight, which was so delicious it deterred me from my pursuit. Or maybe that *was New Prospect!

How downtown Los Angeles reminds me of Bhutan

After a week in North Carolina, I think that's a truer comparison, but I stand by this story I wrote for the Downtown News before that trip.

Virtual Book Tour: Powell's Bookstore in Portland

I'm guest blogging all this week at the fabled Powell's Bookstore blog. Next best thing to being there.

Here's my first post, about Democracy, Media and Bhutan.

Fantastic travelogue by repeat visitors to Bhutan

Thanks to Joan Campbell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio for getting in touch with this wonderful blog her husband Ben put together of their most recent trip to the Kingdom. It's not uncommon for people to return and to love sharing their photos but this is a particularly excellent travelogue!

Weight Watchers, Pauline Frommer and Radio Shangri-La

Pauline Frommer the travel goddess interviewed me for her radio show last week; what I didn't know is that she also blogged about Shangri-La for Weight Watchers! How cool is that; she recommends people starting on their weight loss journey try the "three good things" exercise, along with other nice things:

YES! Weekly

Writeup in YES! Weekly of my talk with Sylvester Taylor at the Center for Creative Leadership by Eric Ginsburg, who also took this

awesome photo of me signing a book. (I wish they'd used the one where I signed my very first iPad!)

To procrastinators and anyone who's felt stumped by fear

If you've ever put off doing something you really wanted to do, creating something you really wanted to create, starting an exercise regime…consider reading THE WAR OF ART: Winning the Inner Creative Battle by Steven Pressfield. I finally did; it's a Seth Godin fave rave which Red Maxwell reminded me the other day to check out, and if that's not enough of an endorsement for you, look at these blurbs:

A vital gem . . . a kick in the ass.

—Esquire

I've never read a self help book that wasn't fatuous, obvious and unhelpful. Until The War of Art. It's amazingly cogent and smart on the psychology of creation. If I ever teach a writing course this would be one of the first books I'd assign, along with the letters of Flannery O'Connor.

—Jay McInerney, author of Bright Lights, Big Cityand Brightness Falls
