Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – June 22nd

My Facebook account is still being reviewed. The Dear Wonderful Hubby is convinced the baddies are the Humanoid Alliance. (grins) They’re not happy that I have been giving them bad press.

I won’t change my stance. I’m Team Cyborgs forever!

Testing Truth, the September Cyborg Romance release, is with my awesome editor. I LOVE this story and I think you’ll love it also. Truth is such a fun cyborg. There is never a dull moment around him.

I’m starting Warlord’s Return, the November Chamele Barbarian Warlords release, today. I THOUGHT the hero would be Yesun, the youngest warrior, but nope. He is still too young to be thinking about Romance. The hero will be Ariq, Oghul’s best warrior.

Passion Surge – Father’s Day Pick

Becoming a Father is a dream many of the cyborg’s have and Surge is no exception to this. He helped Rage and Joan’s offspring enter the universe, has been fascinated with babies of all kinds since then.

When Surge meet his female and discovers she has a newborn, he is thrilled…as are many of the warriors on the battle station he has been assigned to. Surge happily claims the offspring as his own.

I think that says so much about the cyborgs. They want to love. When they are given that opportunity, they often don’t hesitate to grasp it. They love that being or beings with all of their huge hearts.

Passion Surge

This cyborg never expected to become an instant father.

Surge is fascinated with newly manufactured offspring. He has studied them extensively, was one of the few medics present when the very first freeborn cyborg entered the universe.

He’s currently assigned to a battle station with an all-male crew. The probability of tending to an offspring is a dismal 0.0000 percent.

That changes when an unknown ship ventures into the sector they’re protecting.

Nu is an extremely exhausted single mom with a fussy newborn daughter. She has no time or energy for anyone or anything else. That includes a cyborg medic with gentle hands, brilliant blue eyes, and a voice deeper than space.

He claims she’s his female, the one being genetically designed for him. She has heard those types of declarations in the past.

Only a warrior without equal—and some much-needed rest—would prompt this universe-weary mom to believe in romantic love again.

Passion Surge is a short, light, companion story in the Cyborg Space Exploration series and is meant to be read after Doc’s Orders.

Seeing Heroes From The Villain’s Point Of View

I LOVE villain-turned-hero stories and Warlord’s Mercy is my tribute to that trope. Tolui was the big baddie in the first four stories. The Chamele Warlords don’t like him, don’t respect him, don’t agree with what he has done and what he has said to them.

Tolui doesn’t like them either. That’s one of the many things I love about the villain-turned-hero trope—we see the heroes from the villain’s perspective and often that view isn’t flattering. Tolui’s interpretation of the Chamele Warlords’ actions is very different from their interpretations. I find that vastly entertaining.

A writing buddy once told me that all villains are the heroes of their own stories. The opposite is often true also. Heroes are the villains of other characters’ stories. Actions they believe are honorable are misinterpreted. The other characters don’t know the logic, the reasoning behind their decisions.

WE know them. We can view them as heroes. AND as villains. We have the benefit of both perspectives.

Clones And The Refuge

Some reading buddies have noted that I had clones in two series – Chamele Barbarian Warlords AND the Refuge/Dark Thoughts. Do I plan to have these two different cloning communities meet?

YES. A clone will accompany Oghul, his warriors and the gerels when he returns to Carinae E and the Refuge to visit with his brother.

That story will be Warlord’s Return, the sixth and final story in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series. It should release in November.

Spreading The Love Or How To Promote Without Facebook

I’m still locked out of Facebook.

I won’t minimize it. I was devastated yesterday when this happened. Facebook is my primary contact for reading and writing buddies. It is where I chat about my books, talk craft and make connections with other writers, interact with readers on a more personal basis.

There have been plenty of debates about whether or not a writer can have a viable writing career without access to Facebook. I might be the test case for that (grins).

I DO know I’m super happy I have this blog and Twitter and Instagram and my newsletter (writing buddies, if you haven’t downloaded your newsletter subscriber list and saved it in a safe place, do that NOW).

On the marketing side, I’m happy for AMS and BookBub ads, permafree first in series and reading buddies following me at the booksellers. I’m grateful for writer services that might be able to promote my stories on Facebook without me having a profile there.

And I’m feeling more comfortable with my decision to have my stories available everywhere, not merely in KU. Because I don’t like the idea of one company controlling my fate and the fate of my reading buddies.
