Gardening – Growing Green Beans And Showing Love
The Dear Wonderful Hubby’s Awesome Father had some health scares last summer. He lost the urge to eat for a little bit.
He, however, LOVES green beans. We always grow some for him. And last year, we ensured we had plenty of plants producing fresh green beans all summer long.
He ate those green beans because he loves the taste of them AND because he knew we grew them especially for him. And he loves us. As we love him.
(smiles)
Growing our loved ones’ favorite vegetables and fruits is a wonderful…and tasty way to show love.

Muse Food – Poseidon / Neptune In Mazatlán And Other Gods
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this GIANT statue of Poseidon / Neptune in Mazatlán, Mexico.
It was aptly situated next to the aquarium. (grins)
Almost every culture on Earth has at least one deity featured in its stories. It is human to want to credit the wonders of this planet and the often seemingly random events in our lives to a greater power.
I suspect this will also be true of many off planet cultures.
Who is your character’s deity (or deities)? What do these deities control? What do they look like? How do they act? What do THEY value?
This will tell you and readers a lot about your character’s concerns/beliefs/values.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 23
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this absolute character sleeping in the middle of a busy sidewalk in Manila, Philippines.
She forced all the humans to walk around her, waking up only for snacks and pets.

That feels a bit like the life I’m leading right now. I continue to work on writing projects but because there are no deadlines for them other than the ones I set for myself, there’s no true urgency. I can work on them when I want to work on them.
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Create some space in your busy schedule to do…whatever you like. I find that’s often when I get my best ideas – during unstructured times. We often need quiet and room for innovation to grow. Give yourself that gift!

Quiet Acts Of Kindness
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were waiting in line for a cashier at a grocery store.
A tired-looking woman with two toddlers was paying for her groceries at the cashier to our right.
When she found out she had more groceries than money, her shoulders slumped and she gazed with absolute despair at the groceries she’d selected.
All of them appeared to be essential. And she was clearly trying to decide what to leave back.
Would it be the milk? Or the eggs? Or the loaf of bread? Or…
A lady standing behind her took a twenty dollar bill out of her own wallet. She bent over as though she sought to pick something up.
After she straightened, she tapped the paying woman on her shoulder. “I think you dropped this, miss,” she told her.
Hope flickered in the cash-strapped woman’s eyes. Just for a heartbeat before it dimmed. “I don’t think that’s mine,” she told the kind woman behind her.
“I think it IS yours.” The woman’s voice firmed. “I saw it fall out of your pocket.” She pushed the $20 bill into the other woman’s hand. “You must have forgotten about it.”
The money-short woman looked doubtful but she thanked the lady. She paid for her own groceries. She now had enough cash for all of them. And she left, looking relieved and more able to manage.
The other woman’s quiet act of kindness changed her world. (smiles) That’s some hero sh*t right there!

All seems…hopeless.
Yet it isn’t hopeless. Not truly.
Whatever situations you and I might be dealing with right now also aren’t hopeless. They merely FEEL that way at the moment.
But there is ALWAYS hope. Believe in that!

Throwback Thursday – Dark Strength
Balvan, the hero of Dark Strength, is the BIGGEST hero I’ve ever written about. He is part giant and all protector. He is also the Refuge’s gatekeeper and he takes that role VERY seriously.
As he takes safeguarding the little human female who arrived half dead at those gates VERY seriously. Elyce is his genetic match, the one being he was designed to care for.
And the beings who are abused her are dead. They merely don’t know that yet. (grins)

Baobab Trees In Madagascar
The naturalist in Madagascar, along with the driver, took the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I to see some Baobab Trees.
Due to time restraints, we couldn’t see the HUGE ones. Those were located farther away.
But the Baobab Trees we did see were dang impressive.
The trees, when not chopped down by humans, live for centuries. They’re a source of water for people and animals and they support an entire ecosystem.
We had watched a gazillion documentaries about these amazing trees and it was a bit surreal to finally see them in person. I was grinning from ear to ear during the visit. (grins)

We were trekking along a very urban part of Mazatlán, Mexico when we came across this body of water and the greenery surrounding it.
It delighted us.
I LOVE contrasts. They always grab my attention and delight me.
And I’m not alone. Many readers are intrigued by contrasts and juxtapositions also.
The hero with the scarred face and the sadness reflecting in his eyes. The heroine who kicks a$$ yet stops to pet a kitten. The desert planet with a green oasis in the middle of it. The sea licking at the sandy shore.
Use juxtaposition and contrasts to captivate your readers.

The Luck Of The Irish
St. Patrick’s Day is a special time for my family.
My family came to Canada from Ireland. They left their home country during the Potato Famine.
Canada had already reached its limits for newcomers when my family crossed the sea. Resources were severely stretched. There were rumblings from some Canadians about closing our borders.
But my family would have starved if they had been sent back. So Canadians embraced a bit of hardship, a little more taxation, and they accepted more fleeing Irish.
And I will be forever grateful for that generous, loving decision.
We ALL need help sometime. It is an honor to provide that assistance. And it is a gift to receive it.

Dark Thoughts Featured In The Roswell Daily Record
The always awesome Veronica Scott crafted a fun article for the Roswell Daily Record. She asked SciFi Romance Writers which stories of theirs didn’t get enough love.
I chose Dark Thoughts, which might surprise lovers of this darker alien-like romance.
But, as I share,
“It wasn’t a cyborg romance, which is what many readers expect from me. And it didn’t fit into the alien romance category as the hero is a modified humanoid. It is also darker in tone because the hero kills frequently and enthusiastically. But it doesn’t fall into dark romance.”
