The Roller Coaster of Writing by Lynn Lovegreen

Every career has its ups and downs. Writing is no exception. I’ve had my share, as most writers have.  The downs can be dramatic. Many of us go through periods of writer’s block, periods when we can’t come up with ideas or don’t have the energy to write. I’ve only had a few of those when I’ve been too stressed because of personal events (or a global pandemic). My advice is to let yourself rest

Questions re: Traditional Publishing vs Self-publishing

I belong to a number of online groups for writers. I enjoy people telling what the writing life means to them. But over the last few months, the comments have become variations on the same theme. A question like - I've just finished my first book, should I go for traditional publishing, or should I self publish? I know what it means to be a beginner, and I have tried to provide answers

My Ongoing Writing Journey by Eleri Grace

Well, this month's topic is top-of-mind for me as I try once again to reclaim the creativity & momentum that the pandemic stole! My third novel was about halfway complete in spring 2020, as I released the second novel of my Clubmobile Girls series in May 2020 with every intention of publishing that 3rd novel in 2021. It's now about 75% complete, which is truly disheartening . . . for me and for

The Ups & Downs of Writing - A Case Study

By Robin WeaverIf you’re a writer, this month’s theme, “Ups & Downs ofWriting,” couldn’t be more apropos. If you look writing up in the dictionary,it says: Trying to write is like getting on a roller coaster while trying tocreate your artistic masterpiece with an etch-a-sketch. In a thunderstorm.Of course, it doesn’t say that, but it should. Someone pleaselet Dictionary.Com know they can

What's in a name?

As Mr. Shakespeare had Juliet say in that tragic play, “What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.”Well, that might hold true for roses and your doomed lover’s surname. Thanks family feud! But when it comes to naming a character? I beg to differ. Here’s my story.A couple years ago, I submitted the bones of a story to my publisher who was launching a

A Moment That is Priceless by Paty Jager

I have been blessed to have met so many people through my writing. The writers, the fans, and the bookstore owners. It has been over eight years ago that I was at a bookstore for a signing with two other authors. One of the authors and I clicked. Other than writing the main thing we had in common was our love of the Native American culture. She happened to be married to a Native American and
