Meet Taylor from The Alex Chronicles: What My Friends Don’t Know
TAYLOR…
EXCERPT:
Jason has been calling me every day since I bolted. He says all he wants to do is talk, but every time I hear his voice, I melt. His voice reminds me of a deep baritone angel. I can’t talk to him, because I’ll get lost in the beautiful sound of his voice and instantly forget why being with him is wrong.
I may like younger men, but I draw the line at dating a classmate’s son. It’s bad enough I dated my ex-boyfriend’s father. Every time I think about seeing Jason’s mother’s picture, it re-enforces the fact that he is way too young for me, and that’s a bad thing…but being bad can be very fun.
I picked up my phone and pressed Jason’s number and stared at his picture. Call me weak. I pressed the button and before the second ring, my phone beeped with a call from my assistant. Okay God, I get it. I’ll leave him alone.
“Hi Dylan.”
“Oh good, I got you.”
“What’s up?”
“Where are you?”
“I’m coming down the street. Is the client there?”
“Yes, but I don’t think….I mean, Clarice called and she’s a couple of blocks over and she could really use your help. I can handle things here.”
“Dylan, I’m pulling into the driveway. Once I sign the papers you have for me, you can go help Clarice.”
“But Taylor, I mean, boss, really it’s no problem. I’m already here and we’re almost finished with the walk-through.”
I got out of the car and hurried inside. “Dylan, hang up.” I pressed the button, ended the call, walked inside and down the hall to the kitchen.
I love this house. I actually considered selling my house and buying this one, except it’s too big for me. Maybe if I had a family.
Dylan was standing in the doorway of the kitchen with a folder and a pen.
“Hey Taylor, sign where the tabs are and then you can go help Clarice.”
“Where’s the client?”
“He’s down the hall.”
I took the folder and pushed past him. I put my bag on the counter and signed the papers. “Is there anything else?” I handed him the folder.
“Taylor, I really can handle this,” he pleaded.
“Dylan, stop it.”
I heard footsteps approaching. “Go help Clarice and I’ll be there as soon as I finish here.”
“But…”
“Dylan…leave or find a new job.” He turned and walked away.
I looked in the direction of the footsteps and saw a cute boy, tall, fair skinned, dark hair and gentle eyes. He looked vaguely familiar. Then, I heard a second set of heavier footsteps. I looked in the direction of the footsteps waiting on the client to appear. “Hello Taylor.”
“Jason…”
“I see you’ve met my son, Zachary.” He continued into the kitchen.
“Your what!”

Meet Kendell from The Alex Chronicles: What My Friends Don’t Know
KENDELL
EXCERPT:
I WAS WALKING ALONG THE beach and an incredibly sexy, tall, brown skinned man approached me. He smiled and a chill traveled the length of my body.
“Would you like some company?”
“That would be nice.”
We strolled along the length of the white, hot sandy beach a while before he casually reached for my hand. His touch felt like I’d been shot with an electric jolt.
We stopped walking and he dragged his finger across my lips, down my chin, along my neck, just stopping at the apex of my breasts. I could barely breathe. I felt like a busty, frisky romance novel heroine. My eyes locked with his as he crushed his lips against mine, invading my mouth with his tongue. He tasted like pineapple and sweet wine. I wanted more. He pulled me closer as his hands slid down….Bzzzz…Bzzzz…Bzzzz…Crap!…Crap!…Crap! The alarm rang and I woke up soaking wet, with no memory of the rest of the dream.
I’ve been having this same dream once a week for the past three years. I have no idea what happens next because my alarm wakes me up.

Meet Dionne from The Alex Chronicles: What My Friends Don’t Know
DIONNE
EXCERPT:
“Are we going to talk about what happened?” Silence. So I poked the bear. “I know you know, and that’s why you’ve been avoiding my calls.” He exhaled loudly. “Quentin…Quentin…fine.”
I turned the light off and laid down. I tossed and turned for quite a while before finally dozing off. The sudden shift of the bed woke me. I sat up and realized I was in bed alone. I got up and went searching the house for Quentin. I went down to the kitchen and found him sitting at the counter with his face in his hands. “What is going on with you?”
I exhaled. I could either ignore him and the direction this conversation could go or I could just answer him. “There’s nothing wrong with me.”
“I don’t understand why you keep playing into her hand.”
“Are you serious? She’s the one who…I don’t want to get into this right now.” I turned and started out of the kitchen.
He lowered his hands. “Where are you going?”
“Back to bed because I see where this conversation is headed and I don’t want to go there.”
“You’ve been calling me all afternoon saying you wanted to talk and now that I do, you don’t.”
“I don’t think either of us is in the right frame of mind for this conversation.”
He nodded. “Don’t you see what she’s trying to do?”
“Do you?” No answer. “Fine, you want to talk Quentin, let’s talk.” I walked back into the kitchen and stood on the other side of the large, white marble counter staring at him. Sitting in front of me wasn’t the man I married, but my mother-in-law’s son. Right now it felt like he was on her side and not mine. “I get that you’re tired of fighting, but so am I. It seems I’ve been fighting a war all by myself. Since when did you stop fighting with me?”
“What are you talking about?”
“When it comes to your family, it feels like I’m all alone.”
“That’s what you think?”
“That’s how it feels.” Silence. “I have tried being nice to your mother, but she’s constantly attacking me.”
“So you felt the best way to handle her was to play into her hand. You gave her exactly what she wanted.”
“What she wants is to break us up. And today she proved just how far she’s willing to go to make that happen.” My voice was starting to escalate. “My God, Quentin, she brought that woman to our home.”
