I am aware

…of the absence of posts here the last month. And worry not, loyal readers, I am addressing the problem. As this place isn't a personal journal, I keep strictly to the book-related issues you see tagged below. As the book has disappeared around a corner in front of me, which I've already written about, I'm taking a break from the passion and paranoia—which I'm sure will return with the first few copies.

Just a public notice, for everyone's benefit.

First Readers' Copies in the Mail

There's little more terrifying than putting your money where you're mouth is. That is, if you've printed your own currency and believe so strongly in its worth you're convinced others will, too.

Yesterday I mailed four copies of the book to four special people. Today I collect another six from the book press, jettison them into the currents of the postal system, begin wrapping the final eleven. In all, I hope for fourteen readers; I expect more like ten.

Power in Small Numbers

We want our books to be the most exciting in the industry. We want our best work to invade others' lives, multiply our notoriety, earn respect among fans and peers. It's normal. We don't want our best work called "pretty good." After that much revision, we want the sonofabitch revered.

It's not the fear of failure that's got me down. I've got an outrageously high standard, backed by my editor's, and when poems aren't holding their own, they get fixed or dropped. This book isn't going to suck o...

Two Poems Left, then Editing!

It's an exciting day at the Dredge Compound. A poem, maybe two, remains before I can go full-tilt into editing again for the next draft of the book. Of course, it's in editing that you realize how much is still missing, so I'm not holding breath in intervals of more than 30-seconds. But this draft feels real, real close. Maybe one more round of writing after this one. Maybe maybe.
